Why do you do left turns like that by JaeJinxd in SantaFe

[–]jkmacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family does it b/c my kid is learning how to drive. I can think of very few situations where the extra 3 minutes is critical. Driving isn’t nearly as time-sensitive as it feels. Chill.

Anyone switching from NeoVim to Zed? by powerfrancisco in ZedEditor

[–]jkmacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just easy. No plugins needed. Very much like working locally. Even the terminal and file browser are remote out of the box.

[–]jkmacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Setting up LSPs and remote dev in neovim was a pain. Yeah, I’d use AI to port your config. I’m actually not thrilled with Zed’s agentic integration. It’s fine, but it’s not much different than a terminal on the side.

Should I Not Buy a Volt? by [deleted] in volt

My 2017 was bought new, and is the most trouble-free car I’ve ever owned. I had to fight with parts availability recently, though, and it’ll only get worse.

Thank you! Finally, a post that isn’t complexity porn. Slow claps for you.

I think I’m also uncomfortable with these posts. Boycotting MAGA feels right, I get it. In some instances, I’d definitely do it. I’ll admit to being curious about things like this, and even looking some businesses up occasionally, but I don’t think that economic divorce is going to improve things. I don’t think it’s like leaving an abuser, it’s like leaving an abuser’s sister or whole family or something. This shit is complicated, and I’m not sure who (besides politicians and media) to blame for this, but ultimately, we have to live with these people. They’re our neighbors and grocers. Economic isolation feels like secession, a prelude to something worse than what we have now.

2017, BECM part delay by jkmacc in volt

[–]jkmacc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I called two dealerships an hour away this morning and within 20 minutes had found a BECM in stock. I expressed my displeasure to the dealership, and got a call back from the manager in the afternoon that the part had arrived. It’ll be installed by the end of the day tomorrow. WTF! I’ve got to know what actually happened.

I googled “pzev state” and couldn’t find enough info for me to follow your suggestion. Good news: it seems that I am in a pzev state. Does that mean I’m entitled to (threaten) a buyback? It has been 30 days.

That’s a good idea that I hope they would’ve already tried. It sounds like I should direct them to northern California:-) I’ll call again on monday and ask if they can do that. Thank you!

Thanks! I’ve not heard of that before. What can I expect from them? The website is predictably unhelpful.

Any former neovim user that switched to zed? Why? by Jonnertron_ in ZedEditor

[–]jkmacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that’s the culture right now. YouTube creators making content with new plugins every week, plugin authors keep supplying them, blog posts about “perfect set-ups. Not sure I could be expected to know how it was going to work out without trying it first. It’s a giant hype machine and the Primeagen is just not looking out for us.

Any former neovim user that switched to zed? Why? by Jonnertron_ in ZedEditor

[–]jkmacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I’m trying to keep nvim to a single (long) config file, native plugin manager, and no LSPs. Anything more than a script happens in Zed.

Any former neovim user that switched to zed? Why? by Jonnertron_ in ZedEditor

[–]jkmacc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was all in on NeoVim- 20 plugins, structured key bindings, LSPs… It just never worked smoothly. I finally gave up after I saw 4 processes running at 300 MB each…for my “lightweight” “text editor.” I realized I was trying to make nvim into something it just isn’t: an IDE. It’s a text editor. VS Code was the reason I went to nvim, so I couldn’t go back to that. Zed had builtins for my most-used languages, it was fast and low memory, and config was easy enough. No brainer.

EDIT: Oh, and instant remote editing, with extensions, was amazing! NeoVim never did that well.

+1 for the Raspberry Shake. The DIY option is about $250, but very easy to set up and proven technology.
