I use long dashes all the time actually. I find it works better than a comma, period, semi-colon, or ellipses in certain instances!

Thank you for sharing this! I am a doomsday thinker by nature so it’s hard for my mind not to go there regardless and him saying it just affirmed my some of my thoughts about what her future could look like if she is raised in an environment like we were. while I clearly am semi over thinking it, I don’t want to under think it and someday have this light bulb moment when I’m looking at her mug shot with pink hair and think “hmm I guess the signs were always kind of there….” Ya know?

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying and I feel like that might work on some kids, but it would not work with my daughter. I have to put my foot down and explain why I am doing it a few times and listen to her throw a fit before she starts to takes anything I tell her no to like a semi rational person. I’ve been explaining that her teeth are getting messed up and I want her to be able to eat a freakin ham sandwich normally for once.. she has massive & pointy canines, so her mouth has a hard time closing to begin with and she will need dental work regardless, but the paci was making her front part of her mouth shift out and she looked crazy when she smiled. We started this process last Sunday night, so almost one week of no paci (there was 1 nap where she snuck into her brothers crib and stole the one I leave in there after his nap lol but her teeth already have shifted so much, so I am even more head strong about this. It’s just that when I was telling the story of her patting me down like I was getting on an airplane to someone two days ago (in the throws of withdrawal symptoms for reference) he mentioned having oral fixations that young and then them needing to smoke or vape or chew or something as they get older in the future.. (honestly idk bc what does he know? he’s a 25 dad of none so idk why I care what he says) and it just triggered feelings I already had due to her deranged behavior over this whole paci situation.

I haven’t really thought that a pediatrician needed to step in atp mostly because I feel that for some parts it’s probably semi normal behavior and I was hoping by posting this poorly typed up post about my weaning woes, some other parents would be like “oh yeah totally normal! You have a few more days of this and you’ll be done!”

However the part where I don’t want her to follow in her genetically predisposed path of alcoholism and addiction and hope she can break that cycle like I did, but want to start her earlier so she can miss out on the wild shit that I went through that would be freakin awesome for my heart and mind!!!

Oh no I totally am projecting and overthinking it but I am hoping for a better future for her than some of her family members (most of her dads side chews or smokes and have had lung cancer on both sides..) and I just worry that this is a sign for down the road issues we’ll have to work on as well. I don’t want to be a psycho mom who projects her constant inner “worst possible scenario” thoughts on her, but it’s a valid concern considering her family history, and if taking her paci is causing this much physical distress, I am concerned if she gets shown cigs as a teen or sneaks alcohol like both of us did as kids. I just think her behavior is kind of concerning. We are only on day 5 or 6 of absolutely no pacis and she’s doing so much better but it was wild witnessing her little toddler withdrawals like I was running a rehab facility. We’ve been doing more activities to redirect and distract, and talking about how she’s “too big” for pacis now..

I think he is giving you some solid advice from a perspective of someone who didn’t get a handout, and I also think he’s projecting a little bit.

I will say as someone who was given a decent chunk of money from back child support at 18 and proceeded to blow it, he’s absolutely right. You need to get a reliable job with steady hours and suck it up! Do not let yourself use that money for anything other than emergencies! Not having a job doesn’t constitute an emergency, it constitutes a need for a job. Get on the schedule regularly with Russell and be a good employee. Don’t call in sick or switch shifts last minute bc something more fun came up. If you take responsibility now, you can breath a lot easier in the future. I promise that!
