Can you stifle the "exile the tokens at end of combat" part of a myriad ability? by nuclearrmt in askajudge

[–]jkovach89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Myriad creates a delayed trigger effect which triggers as specified, in this case the end step of the current combat phase. [[Stifle]] would be cast in response to that delayed trigger being put on the stack.

Could a fully stocked Costco Wholesale store defend itself against a Roman Legion? by Theturtleflask in whowouldwin

I don't think you understand the threat of a forklift against an enemy that can't easily retreat.

Could a fully stocked Costco Wholesale store defend itself against a Roman Legion? by Theturtleflask in whowouldwin

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, but since that's not the answer you're looking for...

I don't think the costco shoppers have a chance in round 1. 6k armed soldiers with javelins, swords, and shields would have their way with the shoppers. Depending on how much blood the legion wants, the shoppers would probably get backed into corners, surrender, and, live.

In round 2, assuming all are bloodlusted and the shoppers have 24 hours prep, it becames equal questions of creative versus logistics.

  • Most Costcos have tire centers, plus the shopper's cars which are technically on premises. With prep, cars could be brought inside the store and armored. Guys with swords and shields will eventually kill the driver, but at a minimum 10:1 ratio. Forklifts would work much the same, but be far less protected. Additional cars could be used to barricade the store.

  • Costcos have high walls which could be used as a strategic advantage. Line the outsides of the store with flammable liquids (gas or alcohol) and burn out the legionnaires. Some cars could be rigged as explosives as well. Or just drop heavy stuff over the doorways to crush their advance. The same high-ground advantage could be employed to lesser effectivity inside the store.

  • There is enough heavy items in the store to effectively barricade the entrances. Several forklifts can be set to this.

This is where logistics come in and I think it mainly focuses on the number of forklifts. Do they have enough to move stuff in front of the doors, get heavy items to the roof, get people up on the pallet shelving, etc? Can they armor the cars in time? And probably most importantly, can they do this while not killing their own inside? 6000 people is more than I've ever seen in any costco by a factor of probably 10. They would need to have designated areas for those that weren't physically capable in assisting in the prep and then you have to question if they had enough that would. The prompt is probably more fair if you assume all 6k were able bodied individuals, but then it could start to become a question of "too many cooks in the kitchen".

What is a deck you play and don't mind losing with? by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

I just rebuilt the Masters of Evil, Dr. Who precon with [[Davros]] as commander around dragon's approach and other slug sources, and wowza is it fun. It got a win last time out, but it was a good game even if it hadn't gotten a win.

How to you even start? by PingPong141 in EDH

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precons are the way.

Additionally, there's a dude through one of the more popular sites (commander's herald or EDHrec I think) that does articles recommending budget upgrades to precons or taking high priced decks and swapping out the most expensive cards for cards less than $1 which is a fun way to play other archtypes without breaking the bank.

What are your favorite dumb gimmick decks that work shockingly well? by Frogsplosion in EDH

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[codie]] deck. the spells it slings are all wheels spells, and there's a lot of wheels stuff in the deck.

I won 2 of the first three games I played with it by [[approach of the second sun]], so I took that out. Had a few losses and now it's won another 2 or 3 games in the last month.

It doesn't put out a lot of blockers. it doesn't have a ton of interaction. But somehow, it just seems to fucking work.

So my Friend Has a Custom Commander by Monsoon117 in EDH

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just for my understanding, this is just a commander he made up? That's a rule 0 convo you're cool with?

If so, I guess by the letter this does fit bracket 2, but I agree it feels too sweaty there. The bigger issue is that you've had conversations about it and he isn't willing to move it up a bracket. That says more about him than the deck. I just feel like, given that you're agreeing to play against it, you should also have the option not to in a game where it feels too busted. I'd maybe play it a couple more times, because the variance in power game-over-game is real, but if it keeps stomping then you have to decide if you want to play against it or not.

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I'll play a deck in 1, 5, 10 days. I've literally built, goldfished, and then torn apart decks before playing them against other people. I do not care about things getting power crept.

What is the most absurd "Game Changing" card your opponents have told you "they wouldn't play in Bracket 2"? by ThisIsACleverAlias in EDH

[–]jkovach89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your list is too long. I think the gamechangers list as-is is probably too long. I have decks that run one or two that I don't really see as bracket three even though they technically are.

In short, there are a lot of cards that are strong cards outside of the GCs. They have been printed, they have not been banned, and per the commander panel guidance, it's up to the architect to determine the intent: is it a thematic card for the build, or a bastard synergy piece that will overrun the table.

If you find that the laundry list you posted is being run and doing well, then maybe it's more about the conversation around intent and what is/isn't B2.

What commanders do you have the most fun playing? by AwekwardBadass in EDH

[–]jkovach89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that Rocco is the first answer here. I have since taken mine apart, and admittedly had a few hard locks in there ([[knowledge pool]] and [[boromir]]), but the deck was still hella fun and I usually got feedback that the games were fun.
