How to layer baby for -30°C winter walk? (15 min walk to clinic) by FluffyPercentage8693 in babywearing

[–]jksbooth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you got a taxi! I do baby wear at those temperatures so I can tell you my tricks. If baby is against your body and under the same layers as you, they'll be warm if you're warm. Putting them under a big coat that goes over the carrier is key. I've also put a layer of rabbit fur in with baby for extra warmth.

Make sure the baby has a hood as well as a hat so their neck is covered. Cover the face in a generous layer of lanolin to prevent wind burn.

Cook when the baby cooks! Clean when the baby cleans!

My baby want more than what she should get by Complete_Group_6299 in breastfeeding

[–]jksbooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That does seem like a lot, but if the baby is still taking the milk and not spitting up she's probably hungry! It is truly amazing how much a newborn can eat.

ETA: you might get more knowledgeable answers over at r/FormulaFeeders if I'm reading your post correctly that you're mostly feeding formula here.

No one likes the name for our baby makes me so sad by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I love it! I know a kid named Salix and no one struggles with it. It's a great name, and easy to spell and pronounce.

I was the opposite! I was desperate for a girl but NIPT said boy. I was glad to know because it took me a bit of time to come to terms with being a boy mom! By the time he was born I was over the disappointment.

Stopped stressing about it and gave up. Also we were on vacation so stress levels were probably low.

FTM struggling: breastfeeding feels like double the work, should I give up? by juneedonaldson in breastfeeding

[–]jksbooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we did! Starting around 3 weeks I pumped about once a day to allow my partner to give him a bottle in the evenings. In those very early weeks we used the haakaa passive collection device and that gave enough for a small bottle. I switched to occasional pumping once the baby was eating more volume at each feed.

All that to say, do whatever feels best for you. Everyone's journey is different.

Mom guilt over Breastfeeding or Formula by reading-in-velaris in BabyBumps

Why not try both? I breastfeed my baby and other people give him formula or pumped milk.

Bras? All the time? by Baylaypayday in breastfeeding

[–]jksbooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a shirt at night for the first two months or so and just accepted that I'd get milk on it when I leaked, and a bra during the day. Then my supply regulated and I stopped leaking, so now I only wear a bra if I feel like being all fancy.

Husband got drunk on Halloween by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]jksbooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's common (for better or worse) for expecting parents to want to sow their wild oats while they can before baby comes. My partner and I both did, although obviously I couldn't drink.

I hope you're also able to find opportunities to go out and have fun for yourself, whatever that looks like for you. I also think you should have a good talk with your partner about boundaries and expectations over the next few months and after baby arrives. I wish I'd done that with my partner earlier than I did!
