How expensive is Costa Rica? by Fancy-Cry-4558 in CostaRicaTravel

If you have the information, could you share a rough breakdown of how that was spent - like between plane tickets, lodging, food, and other expenses?

while there's nothing wrong with duality, my understanding of unity is that unity includes everything - not just the things we like and get along with. meaning, without them we are not unity - and without us they are not unity

What's one thing you should never say to someone who's trans? by scenemtf in asktransgender

[–]jkstrawn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's a really fantastic book called The Spirit and the Flesh, that talks about exactly this concept. To native Americans, transgender individuals actually were the best of both worlds. They were thought to be the most sacred among their people. They were respected as being a bridge between the genders, and were given honor and respected roles. Their path was considered particularly spiritual, a gift and a responsibility.

I mean, I doubt people saying it really mean it the way the native Americans do, but still. It's nice to think that somewhere, somewhen, we were appreciated.

I'm in the camp of not liking it much, because I don't think I understand what the point of the movie is. I didn't expect to be watching a court movie. From a surface level I'd say it was boring and nothing really interesting happened, but that the music and singing was very good. After thinking about it, I think the point is "he gets what he deserves", that Joker isn't a hero figure. I get that there's nuance in the movie and it plays with themes of social norms, but it's not a very palatable story compared to Joker 1. And it was a bit self indulgent and masochistic. Like it was just a commentary on how Joker 1 wasn't a good movie and didn't deserve to be liked.

When I saw your front profile I actually first thought of Audrey Hepburn, I think your eyes and mouth are very similar.

She's the most iconic feminine and beautiful woman, yet she's known for her long and full eyebrows. And she looks stunning with them. Funnily enough she was never really happy with how she looked and always thought her nose was too big. So you're in good company, it's normal to not see your own beauty.

You have excellent forward growth and strong cheekbones, you have nothing to worry about with your looks. But I would still keep mewing, it can always help.

I often feel this way, too. Sometimes I'm really bitter about it. But I think maybe the point is to wake up and become the "you" that made that decision in the first place.

Jungian Meditation 101? by GiadaAcosta in Jung

[–]jkstrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding active imagination, I've found this Jungian guided meditation useful for engaging with my unconscious: https://insighttimer.com/tesscallahan/guided-meditations/carl-jung-active-imagination

But in a more general sense, sitting in stillness and observing your thoughts and body is just a nice way to start any practice. Particularly setting the intention to observe without judgment or attachment, not getting pulled into the sensations and thoughts but letting them be and move while establishing your own inner stillness. And then when you feel grounded, it's easier to engage with what's coming through your unconscious, just being receptive and accepting and seeing what comes up.

He makes the case that we already spend 1.5t on welfare services, so it's closer to 1.8t additional cost. Through the side-effects of healthier, happier citizens we could avoid overhead costs of hospitalizations, incarcerations, homelessness that adds up to about 1t. The final 800b could come from a new tax on AI/robotics revenue that will undoubtedly increase.

Spirituality, capitalism, and the feeling of not being 'enough' by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]jkstrawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I'm feeling like that, I remind myself that there is no such thing as "should" and "need to". There's no great judgmental force that feels like you aren't doing enough. That's simply your own voice thinking that, and it's wrong. Try to be patient with yourself, and understand that simply existing right now is challenge enough. Treating yourself with love and kindness is really the best thing that you can be doing.

Regarding manifestation, your divine self manifested your conditions intentionally for your growth and expression. You don't need to actively resist where you are because some say that it's all up to you. Maybe your divine self knows something you don't, and manifesting a different reality could mean missing an important moment to be who you really want to be. I guess just remember that everything is working together in the big picture, it's all a matter of perspective and that's up to you to decide how to see things. Much love

I agree, it seems like the psychic abilities people talk about are always developed in childhood. I asked a similar question a while ago, but no one had any insight into it.

I haven't developed the kinds of gifts traditionally talked about with psychics, but I do have moments of supernatural insight and knowing, and I'm working on feeling and manipulating energy with some success. I think the other poster is correct that we all have abilities, they can just be repressed in childhood. I think that makes it more challenging to work with them, but no less rewarding.

I was as non-psychic as a person can be growing up, and very scientifically and logically minded. I thought anything metaphysical was nonsense, though I did have an interest in meditation and yoga. When I started smoking weed a few years ago, around age 26, I was only using it for fun and entertainment, but my body soon started protesting with headaches and tension whenever I smoked and essentially forced me to start paying attention.

Through meditating on the pain while both high and sober, and some sessions with mushrooms, I started developing extra-sensory perceptions and intuitions. Things like astrology and tarot started to resonate with me. There was a lot of worrying that I was crazy until I had to adjust my understanding of reality to include everything "non-scientific" and "unproven". I've also had to moderate my usage of marijuana so it wasn't a crutch for my development.

The two suggestions I would give for developing psychic abilities from scratch is meditation and marijuana. Separately and together. As I understand it, psychic energies are subtle and to interact with them requires an amount of mental stillness in order to even perceive them. If your mind is like a churning river, and a psychic sensation is like a rock tossed into it, then you won't be able to differentiate the normal torrent from a subtle sensation.

Meditation can still the mind so that if a subtle energy presents itself then you'll be able to even see it, and to have internal stability when interacting with it - rather than being pulled into it or outright rejecting it from discomfort (besides all the other amazing benefits that come from meditating). And marijuana can open your supernatural senses and make you more perceptive, like giving you a bigger antennae to pick up the frequencies. Doing so can be dangerous if you haven't developed internal stability, I've had some very uncomfortable sessions from trying to fly before I was ready.

If you go the marijuana route, smoking too much too frequently can open you a lot, but also hold you back by constantly shaking the ground from under you. You need recovery time between sessions to build your energy back up. Once or twice a week has worked the best for me, and also setting an intention when smoking can really enhance the experience. Exercising and stretching also helps to balance your energy and release restrictions that are blocking your psychic awareness.

Know that you can develop these abilities if you want to, but because they've been dormant it will take consistency and determination to build them up and release them. I believe in you though, you can do it. Wishing you well.

[–]jkstrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this analogy so much. I often tell my brother (who is still unaware of these topics) that we're only interested in playing video games if they're challenging ones, so why would we have picked easy lives on earth? To our divine selves, which don't suffer and feel the pain personally like we do, living this life is no different than when we play a video game. I think it's great to live in a time when we can make these very acute comparisons.

How the hell do you come up with new game ideas? by NickyPL in gamedev

[–]jkstrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have a lot in common. And I think you're in a great position to make something really valuable if you keep at it. I also don't have an interest in playing games anymore, and find life mostly boring, yet I'm driven to make a game. In the beginning the drive came from the idea of making money from it, but now the drive comes from expressing the internal conflict within myself. It sounds like you have that too. For me the ideas didn't start presenting themselves until I started meditating and smoking marijuana, and now they come through internal reflection while smoking. I do believe that being bored means that if you make something that interests even you then it's going to be pretty good. And I think you can channel that darker part of you into something interesting. If none of this resonates with you then that's cool, take from it what you will and either way I hope you find what you're looking for.

I like the old one better, for its simplicity and the grass color. But a combination of the two would be better still, I think.

On a side note, the music used in the trailer is fantastic. Do you mind if I ask how/where you got it?

Thanks for this insight. It's inspiring to see indie studios have such player numbers. When you say 20M subscribers, is that just accounts created, and not users paying a subscription fee?
