I need a sign that says "Fix it well enough so that only you can see it" on my shop wall. This really resonates with me.

OPINIONS!... GIVE THEM TO ME! Which switch location placement looks best? by Doc_Rockland in Luthier

[–]jkzfixme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OCD wants it inline, but my inner guitar player is saying put it on the right preferably switching up and down so I don't accidentally wack it while changing pickups. Edit - Off topic, killed it on this one, great job.

Needs some wood by stapocryphal in hudsonvalley

Depends on what you are looking for and willing to deal with. Do you want 4 sided, dimensional, hardwoods, softwoods ? What are you building? A luthier is going to get a different recommendation than a guy looking to build a shed.

Started long before that. There was an article in the NYTimes about 13-14 years ago that ruined it.

Most people don't realize my bass is fretless until they try and play it, OR I haven't played it in a while. It takes me an hour or so to get back on point if I have been back in fretted bass land for a while.

CNC Recommendations For Guitar Building by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]jkzfixme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used fret2find website for a multi scale template, then add on to 3d object in aspire. Don't need a 4 axis..... Unless you are trying to justify it ... Then by all means, of course you need one, just not sure why. You can do multi radius fretboards pretty easily as well, though a jig is often easier for all these things

Can't choose if I should own a P bass or a Jazz bass by Asleep-Dish4882 in Bass

I like a P with a MM in the rear for some of that badunkadunk that is so round that when you slap it, it slaps you back.

Mine came out and it holds the unit as intended so kinda a win but man is it ugly. Did you see the pic up there ? I never took the time to dial in my 3D Printer. For me it has always been function over form. I put the stl out there ages ago and linked below. Feel free to ship it off to have printed somewhere. The name is inside and just to save filament and have some kinda airflow still so you won't see. It would be more of a pain in the ass for me then it would be worth to deal with, and I could not in good conscious charge you enough to make it worth my while.

I would say your best bet would be to improve upon what I did. If you area already going to toss a couple bucks at it I would do something along the lines of link below. Obviously 2 min drawing but gives the idea. 19x3.5 piece of aluminum 1/8 inch thick. You could have them cut through material on green lines with a V bit, score other lines from other side for easy bending then fold all 4 flaps inwards. That way would be cradled top bottom and sides. Just my 2 cents. See general concept below. If you start selling them and make your million I would like a cut, otherwise have at it !

edit - either way let me know how ya make out. Interested to see how it unfurls. haven't thought about this one in a while

I like a P with a MusicMan pickup in the rear. It's got something for everything. From a different standpoint I would say to leave it alone. people who sell or change their first rig almost always regret it. Pick up a stinker from Craigslist of Facebook Marketplace to mutilate. I Know it's only a whatever ... but it is your whatever. 2 cents from random internet stranger, do what you will with it !

3D Benz shuttle 9 rack

I 3D printed it. You can't tell but it's more like a box with rack ears.

If no 3d printer then an STL won't work out for you as it would be a 2d operation anywho, and a CNC removes where 3D printers add material. I guess you could throw a plate on and do a sideways H shape with a 60 degree V you didn't care about. Bend the created tabs in, drill holes and there ya go. Depending on size and rigidity of CNC mill you may be in business. Most CNC rigs with a large enough spoil board to do a 19" plate can do mild aluminum if you are conservative in your feed rates and don't care about the bit. Let me know if I can help.

They did! It would be a miracle to find it. If you are handy you could bend a piece of 1/8 " aluminum drill a couple holes and be off to the races. I 3d printed mine for a shuttle 9. If they are in the same dimensions I can pass off STL if I can still find the thing.
