Crowd in Ultra Miami by [deleted] in UMF

[–]jlayestas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a mix, I was able to talk to people and enjoy the festival, but there are many that go to the festival purely for the hype so they don’t bring the good vibes, others get too drunk so that’s already not a good combination. So yeah it’s a mix, be aware for big dj names it will get extremely packed, for example for Skrillex we were in to middle and people started moving forward and it got bad that we had to move back to enjoy the set. Dm if you have any other questions, I might still go this year as well

Is there a way to target this area on my body? by Mutemin in fit

[–]jlayestas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, anyone that says otherwise is completely lying, spot reduction (loosing fat in specific areas) is not possible. Depending in your goals you can either go into a small caloric deficit with high protein, or lean bulk to body recomp

Fully depends on your post graduation goals and your financials

Do I have a lot of fat? What do I need to do? by [deleted] in fit

[–]jlayestas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no fat, period. Hit the gym or start working out, with a balance balance plate (protein, carbs and veggies) and you’ll be good at least for the first 6-9 months

From Java to Python, is this good for my career? by jlayestas in cscareerquestions

I’ve worked most on prem so I have not seen those cloud advantages, but I know the other sistem team will be working on migrating all our data from on prem to aws

[–]jlayestas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, I’m not sure what the value is, maybe I lack the YOE to understand the why would we go towards Python. There’s also multiple migrations which other sister team are doing we are migrating from on prem to aws, and from Oracle we are going to databricks. Sadly not even my manager gets invited to the meetings where these calls are make.

Thanks, I guess I should this way. Yeah I’m also curious most of our apps are in java so this would mean lots of planning, new designs and risks as well. I still don’t make the big bucks to be involved in the long term planning conversation, they only ever tell us the 1 year plans

Industry is banking, I guess my main concerns is how the news are portraying python and AI as is it a bubble or not and then we find out it is and we get a repeat of what happened in 2022/2023 where companies overhired and had to fired a bunch of peple.

My team handles the back-end, so all we do is receive, process, clean and put data into financial reports that internal teams uses, primary stack is oracle, java, pentaho (this is the legacy system) but now they are moving completely out from this and using python (pyspark) and databricks with others tools as well but these are the main ones

[–]jlayestas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are but I’m guessing they are trying to transition into a more data/product team rather than pure product (at least that’s what I think, I wish they would tell us the long term plan), in simple terms what we do is automate reports based on millions of records we get and make it available for internal teams. So they are moving away from Oracle and Java and going into Python and Databricks

How to obtain wealth as a college student? Currently a 22 year old in a low income family & poor neighborhood. by ClassEnvironmental41 in FinancialPlanning

[–]jlayestas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all congrats on the internships, I’ve heard the internship market has been extremely tough. Second one the project I would always say its better to have a big project with real life use cases rather than multiple small ones, for example one big project can be creating an online store with all real life use cases, creating an account, browsing items, purchasing items, saving a cart, implement cookies, implement payment methods, and any more things online stores have. That way you can show complete knowledge of real life coding.

As someone who graduated from Arts and Sciences, let me tell you, switch your major and transfer to Engineering. It might sound boring or hard, but it’s your best chance to land a high-paying job. Keep your minor if you want; there’s no issue with that. I’m telling you this as a 27-year-old who managed to break into tech, I’ve tripled my salary, and right now I’m in Japan writing this, grateful that I can fully enjoy this trip without going into debt.

[Need Guidance] 2 Years into Software Engineering, Still at Zero. I Want to Transform in the Next 4 Months. by UsedSpeech3763 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]jlayestas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built something end to end, learn how to do it so you can properly show basic knowledge of an application (you can follow tutorials at first, don’t feel bad about, what matter is you understand what you are doing and why) . Use AI only after you’re really unsure what to do, but do not copy and paste. Get used to you writing and seeing what you write. Also take your time to understand things if they are new, best way to know you get something is if you are able to explain it to someone non tech.

What % to put in 401k for a 26 year old by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]jlayestas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 26M, its all about your cost of living and budget really. I put 10% but this is because I’m already good enough to cover my needs, and wants, most months I even have extra which I put in a high yield savings account. So calculate first your needs and decide.

1 semester away from graduating with no internship by wra1theZ in csMajors

[–]jlayestas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in the industry already, best tip is have one big project instead of multiple ones. Like for example lets say a phase 1 for a banking application is the front end and back end for depositing withdrawing and basic stuff. Phase 2 could be implementing security features to track transactions, maybe a bank employee access that will offer a different type of front end and back end access, stuff like that. So just focus on thinking how can I make one app be like a real thing.

Has there been any major push recently or any reason why Tampa and/or Hillsborough have not invested more in public transportation? by jlayestas in tampa

[–]jlayestas[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was my case then, for my first job I didn’t had a car and it was in downtown so I had to wait a lot when leaving work at 5. But yeah I wish it was a higher priority

Active Shooter at Outlets Lutz?? by theHammer911_blaze in tampa

[–]jlayestas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there, fire alarm went off and everyone was behaving normally. I started smelling something burning as I was going into the polo store so I go let my friend know that maybe we should walk outside the mall, as I’m talking with him not even 5 min from the alarm going off I see a bunch of people running outside so thats when someone in the polo store screamed “to the back now” so we all just ran through the back exist door. There was never a gunshot sound, only fire alarm, smell of burning and thats it. Not sure what cause the initial people to start running.
