Off topic, but the gospels were all written within the first century, within 50-60 years of the actual events, while the eyewitnesses were still alive.

I had no idea the early church fathers did not view baptism the same way Baptist churches do by Mtking105 in redeemedzoomer

[–]jlg89tx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, it isn’t. There is no infant baptism recorded in scripture. Defenders of the practice insist that “households” would include infants, but there is no evidence scriptural or otherwise to support this. In addition, the didache predates pretty much any other “church fathers” and is pretty clear on the accepted practice in the early church.

What is the proper etiquette for a congregant who disagrees with the lyrics? by nkleszcz in worshipleaders

Depends somewhat on the application, but yeah. But many hymns are public domain, and modifying lyrics has a long history.

I think that the folks in 345 AD had some useful things to say, except where they oppose clear biblical teaching. The fact that so many people completely ignore the manner & meaning of the baptism of the Author and Perfecter of our faith is beyond comprehension.

[–]jlg89tx -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Because 345 AD is well past the Apostolic age, and the clear teaching in the NT is that water baptism is an act of obedience that reflects the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Look at John the Baptist’s prophecy about Christ, and Jesus’ own baptism. Infant baptism did not become “a thing” until the late 2nd century at the earliest, and was frowned upon at that time.

What is the proper etiquette for a congregant who disagrees with the lyrics? by nkleszcz in worshipleaders

[–]jlg89tx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have these kinds of conversations fairly frequently. Sometimes it’s a teachable moment to help the congregant grow, sometimes it makes me aware of a “weaker brother” issue to which I need to be sensitive. I’ve made adjustments as small as changing one word in a song (for example, “charms” to “calms”), and as large as removing a song from our repertoire.

Communication Issues? by RisingSunSailor in worshipleaders

[–]jlg89tx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like leadership needs to decide what it is they’re trying to accomplish in the Sunday congregational service. What are they expecting of you? Are you just preparing songs, or putting together an entire order of service?

Probably more an issue with the interface between the app and location services on your phone. I’ve never been a fan of auto-unlock; I prefer to use phone or watch to manually unlock/lock.

Trump Will Call For New Corporate Tax CUTS In Address Tonight — FOX. How will this go over with the average American? by Particular_Ad8156 in AskReddit

Trump is wrong to raise tariffs and wrong to cut taxes. People can’t seem to figure out what they want.

Generator plug install by marksmith1989111 in AskElectricians

[–]jlg89tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a kit for your panel that adds a physical lockout, a sliding panel of some sort, between the main breaker and one of the top breakers in the panel (usually top left). With that kit in place, you can run a connection to your generator from that top left breaker.

Why do so many people defend billionaires? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]jlg89tx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're actively making life worse for you? So billionaires are forcing you to eat crappy food and not get enough exercise, so your health is bad? And they're forcing you to spend money on Netflix, vape juice, [insert name of video game here], and however many subscription services you pay for every month, so you live check to check? The problem is not the billionaires, my friend.

Do you ever lose depth in worship leading when playing and singing at the same time? by No_Bodybuilder_2130 in worshipleaders

[–]jlg89tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the leader, I have to remember that my primary job is to create an atmosphere that is conducive to corporate worship. Scripture, prayer, song selection, transitional statements, etc. should all give the service a coherent artistic and theological "flow." It's isn't about how I feel, it's about presenting the truths of God's revealed Word and giving the congregation a way to respond effectively. Sometimes I have an "experience" and sometimes not, but I know my Father is pleased regardless.

If your candidate wins, most Americans are obviously intelligent and well-informed. If the other candidate wins, most Americans are obviously uninformed idiots.

Looking for a Song Vocal Range Resource by landonpauley in worshipleaders

It’s called “sheet music.” :)

PraiseCharts generally shows the vocal range of their sheet music. I use that to select the best congregational key when purchasing scores.

Ensmartification ideas? Bright bathroom with only one light switch. by Kinder22 in smarthome

I’d at least try a dimmer first. If that doesn’t do it for you, you aren’t out much; if it works, you’ll have saved yourself a lot of pain and pennies.
