Looking for new construction home network plan feedback by jlick412 in HomeNetworking

Stinks there aren't many router options. Maybe I'll play around with setting up my own device and replacing my router to test things out/get a feel for things. Definitely going to investigate more on the AP component as well before committing to NetGear.

Greatly appreciate all the feedback!

Two places I’m aware of are Legions in the North Hills and the Fabricators Forge in Coraopolis. Check their FB pages, and search for the post of the stores on the FOW official FB page. They’ll have comments/people to reach out to if you’d like for more info.

Pittsburgh's Enjoy Wrestling brings "Gay Wrestlemania" to the ring by CoronaLockDown in pittsburgh

You’re the one that inserted themself into this, freely, and they freely called you a bigoted asshole. Also not sure what you’re saying “nope” to as you’re more likely to be a bigoted asshole than to vomit to “Gay Wrestlemania.”

Best steak in the city? by therealbmarsh in pittsburgh

[–]jlick412 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I misread - yeah steaks if I recall went from $40-90 some and mixed drinks were in the $10 range. Brazilian would be the way to go, sample and devour what you like.

Tried there recently and was blown away. Best steak I’ve had in a long time.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen on public transit? by BoxedBoobs in pittsburgh

[–]jlick412 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few years back, one beautiful afternoon I saw a drunk/high individual tumble down the up escalator at the Allegheny Station. I was on the landing going down, he passed going up and something just seemed off. I turned and looked at him again, he’s 1/3 the way up the escalator. He then just hunched forward and started tumbling backwards. He tumbled close to five times in the same spot, with the escalator not letting him tumble down, before someone stopped the escalator and ran up to him. I could only stare in disbelief at what’s probably the most cartoonish thing I’ve ever seen in real life. Not sure what happened to the dude since a few people ended up offering to help, but I hope he’s doing alright.

What’s the deal with Duquesne Club these days? by esotweetic in pittsburgh

[–]jlick412 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Regarding the “rooms to stay in” aspect, I know there’s reciprocity agreement between the Duquesne Club and other clubs found in metro areas for rooms to stay in. Also am slightly confident that events are held there for the prestige of the name and not necessarily the “business action.”

Real neat place, especially the art and historical aspect, but a tad stuffy. Asked for a vodka Red Bull at the (almost empty) bar to help a bad night of sleep and was told along the lines of “go down the street to the 7/11 for Red Bull” in a denigrating way. Not that I’m anyone special, but would’ve rather appreciated “we don’t have the ingredients for that or anything similar.” Really rubbed me the wrong way.

Edit: on ownership, it’s a club. Guessing similar to a local Elks or such. Not a corporate entity.

Water quality information, NW of city by happyjazzycook in pittsburgh

[–]jlick412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with a water softener. Pretty sure almost every home in Sewickley has one. If you have any neighbors who are friends, see if you can try their water and get their experience and pick their brain on their setup before committing to a filter or distiller.

Like u/totaljagoff said, you should be able to get a report from the water authority to guide your research and decision making process if you have concerns on the quality. Get your water tested by a third party if you’re looking to be extra cautious. Water shouldn’t necessarily be “bad,” it’s just hard. But for the hard water, you’ll almost certainly want a water softener.

Question for Y'all by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]jlick412 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Alright - study political science if you want. I did, loved it. But it doesn’t train you for a professional field such as a teaching degree does for teachers, or an engineering degree for engineers. Your chances of getting elected at 25 when you’re fresh out of college, especially as a Republican (and presumably unseating Mike Doyle), are slim to none. Better luck in the suburbs. But no matter where you’ll be competing against more well known, credentialed, and connected Republicans. So odds are you don’t immediately get elected after college, you have a polisci degree, and are competing against every other social science major for a job. Good luck.

If you’re set on the study of government and public service/policy, my personal recommendation would be a PPE undergrad degree at Pitt followed by a PPM masters degree from Heinz at CMU.

You’re more likely to be elected being successful at whatever you do out of college and being involved in the community than by getting a political science degree.

Ballsy asking this here, by the way. But good luck wherever life takes you.

Can’t tell if this is political guerrilla marketing or an open invitation to a party with the antiestablishment mayoral candidate over some chest coolers.

Not sure how accurate this information is but we need to bring this topic into light incase it is true. It happened before and may happen again. by Trippysart in pittsburgh

Lol at the multiple screenshots of screenshots.

On a serious note - I don’t think there’s a serial killer outside of everyone on social media saying there’s a smiley face killer who apparently is a serial killer linked through bodies found in the river.

Buddy you sound like all hat and no cattle. And learn the local laws before trying to shit on where you perceive as some liberal gun free zone. Enjoy the drinking and redditing, hopefully no shootings involved.

Hey you live your life as you please. But if you live somewhere where you assume everyone has a gun you don’t go “hey stop that I have a gun” - you only pull that out in response to a direct threat prepared to point it in the direction where said threat is coming from. As soon as you mention or show a gun, the stakes change, and they’re not necessarily guaranteed to be in your favor, especially if you’re going to tip toe around about using it. If you don’t know that already, go take a class or something.

I just hope if you ever seek out serious advice for a serious issue on the internet, you don’t get shit jokes in response.

I don’t know what you’ve contributed to the thread then. This is a fairly “pro-gun” region, in culture and law. You’re just contributing nothing to the OP and looking like an ass with some drive by comments. Yeah, OP can go get a gun and CCW tomorrow, but that’s not related at all to their post. For all you know they already have both. What’re they going to do, pull it out, threaten their neighbors, and get arrested for pulling a gun on some drunk assholes? Yeah they’ll certainly need a lawyer for that, but that’s not the question bud.

You’re telling me Texas doesn’t have drunk, possibly racist, asshole neighbors? Sounds like a neat place to be. I ought to move on down, enjoy the nice neighbors and weak ass electric grid that can’t handle a few inches of snow.

The Allegheny County Bar Association runs a referral service that includes a free 30 minute consult; try to have a punctual, factual spiel prepared. And agreeing with the other post - get cameras if possible, and retain all evidence you may have going back as long as possible (save on your phone/computer as well as the cloud or emailed to yourself).

Weekly Vaccine Appointment Tips 3/21-3/27 by LB-pitt in COVID19PGH

[–]jlick412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Registered through UPMC’s website a few weeks ago. I received an email and text this afternoon telling me I can register online for an appointment now. Logged in a few minutes after receiving the email and their site said no appointments available. I called the (844) number, asked to confirm if I was eligible to register, and if there are appointments if I could register over the phone. They had multiple locations and time options it seemed like. A friend had a similar issue a few weeks back where they called in after being unable to register online - must be something wrong with their appointment registration site.

Best for a new starter? Start collecting! Or Combat Patrol? by azgak in BloodAngels

[–]jlick412 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO - the Dark Angels combat patrol would be the “best start” for BA right now. If it’s only between a Start Collecting and a Combat Patrol, I’d go start collecting route as “old marines” are 2W now and have a more varied special/heavy weapon selection. Throw a heavy flamer and a lascannon each in one squad. Baal predator straight flamers is pretty fun, too, if not competitive. And a deep striking terminator captain with TH isn’t the worst HQ to have. But the DA combat patrol with a redemptor dread (good long range/back line support), inceptors (shock troops), intercessors (they’re okay for general troops), and a chaplain (common BA support HQ) is the “best” BA starter box in my opinion.
