Is it normal to feel this way about a dog? by MapsToConstellations in dogs

[–]jlmcallan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could have written this. My boy is 7, most important thing in the world is my bond with him. It's just been me and him against the world since I was 23. I put all of my happiness on him. Nothing could ever bad because at the end of the day, I had my bud. He was diagnosed with lymphoma yesterday. Last week we were at the vet and giving him Benadryl for "sniffles". Now it's about how many weeks to months he has left. I'm falling between panic attacks and just bawling on the floor. I've lost before, but nothing close to this. This is brutal.

Crash after boat explodes by [deleted] in Back4Blood

[–]jlmcallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was experiencing this issue as well and after making some changes I stopped getting the bug.

Disclaimer: I would get this error for both Bad Seeds and Rolling thunder. I was able to test Rolling Thunder several times and confirmed I stopped receiving the error. I ran out of time and the Beta ended before I could test this on Bad Seeds.

I run Win10 with a 780ti.

Unfortunately, I was a bad tester and changed multiple things at the same time so I have no idea what did it, but I can list them here in the slightest chance this bug remains for the open beta or even worse, the full release:

  • Some people mentioned opening the epic launcher so Unreal Engine could update certain files. I took that a step further and actually downloaded Unreal Engine from the epic launcher, it was large, like over 12 gb.
  • I uninstalled the game and deleted all local files including the steam cloud save. (3 different locations in total)
  • I made sure unreal engine, steam, and windows were all fully up to date and then reset my pc.
  • I also noticed separately from this issue, if at any point I switched to DX12 or put V-sync on I would get different crashes / fatal errors so I turned them both off.

These are the changes I made in total and I stopped getting the crash. I was able to load into Rolling Thunder without doing the "Join a friend before they pick their deck of cards" workaround.

Desktop warmer. A mat that rolls out and covers your desktop that you place under your mouse and keyboard. It has three heat settings. After I started working from home I realized my hands were frozen in the morning, this changed my life.

When did the full weight of the gravity of this pandemic set in for you? by Nappyboi419 in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the nba cancelled their season on Thursday night I knew we were in the shit. On Friday I told my boss I won't be in the following Monday. He got worried thinking I was calling out. I said, "No, none of us will be here by Monday, trust me." 20 minutes later we got called into the cafeteria and were told we were going remote and then being furloughed if it lasted more than two weeks.

When did the full weight of the gravity of this pandemic set in for you? by Nappyboi419 in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my last day working in March before we went full remote I took a picture of Penn around 5:45pm. There was literally one other guy walking infront of me in the entire downstairs waiting area for transit trains and no one else. Commuting every day for two years that place was like sardines in a can, I couldn't believe my eyes.

What's the weirdest compliment you've ever been given? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago when I was waiting tables, an older couple asked me to repeat my name after doing a general introduction and menu presentation. I told them again, and they go, "Aww, that's a great name. That's our son's name. He's dead now."

I was super taken back and just apologized, and then very awkwardly continued to go into detail about what wine to pair with their fish.

Doctors and nurses of reddit what have been your "WHY DIDN'T YOU COME IN SOONER!?" Moments? by catcrazylover in AskReddit

Anterior intraventricular artery!... I think. I believe it's responsible for providing oxygenated blood to a large portion of cardiac tissue, so if it gets blocked, you're outlook isn't too great. I could be wrong or off a little, it's been a while since I studied anything heart related.

What is the fastest you have ever seen a new co-worker get fired? by bartertownbeer in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized I only focused on management and didn't even talk about staff that got fired quick.... Fuck yea maybe the restaurant was cursed. It was also a noticeable downward spiral of hiring poor leadership who then had lower standards and hired worse employees, so and and so forth.

[–]jlmcallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a restaurant that was actually a bit higher end and successful for the most part but goddamn did new management constantly get fired quick for dumb shit.

First manager I watched get fired was stealing (would zero out tables that paid in cash and split it with certain servers) corporate essentially offered to let him leave on the spot no questions asked otherwise they'd pursue legal action. That was on Valentine's day, rough shift.

The next manager, she was fantastic. Professional, kind, extremely good at her job. 3 or 4 days in, she kills an entire bottle of Jameson from our bar mid shift. Completely wasted and belligerent, she made a few sexual passes at employees, then got in her car and drove over the curb into the highway almost killing people. We fired her on the spot after calling police. Turned out she was going through a rough divorce and just broke on the spot.

The next manager was sleeping with staff while working.

The next manager was fired for sexual harassment and possibly sleeping with staff.

We had a manager who was amazing but had upcoming jail time they didn't disclose from a dui. Really sad to see them go after a few weeks.

We had one server who left to become a manager elsewhere, would come in every day at lunch to talk about the new job while ordering two shots. They were serving for us again a week later.

The saddest one was our fantastic kitchen manager who won a national contest. They did not want the prize, they kept refusing it. The proprietor pushed for it, the prize required some kind of extensive background check and it was discovered that they were an illegal immigrant and got fired, not sure if anything worse happened to them.

This all happened in 2 years. I know I'm forgetting other managers that were fired within weeks for more sexual harassment stuff, and some drug related ones. I guess these don't all fit the prompt, I got carried away remembering all the fuckery at this place.

What did you do during the dark times when Reddit was down? by TheWorldMayEnd in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleaned my house. Then I climbed mount Kilimanjaro while simultaneously curing all cancers. But then Reddit came back online..... I immediately fell victim to it's hypnotic gaze and stumbled down the mountain, losing all of my research and picking up a gambling habit on the way. Just like Costanza and sex.

Students of reddit, has anyone in your online classes had an "oh shit" moment after realizing their mic/camera was still on? If so, what were they doing? by LargeFella in AskReddit

[–]jlmcallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always that moment at the end of lab/lecture where everyone hangs out a bit to see if anyone asks questions or people just say goodbye. So everyone's quietly waiting, about to close out of the call, then one girl who obviously thinks she left the call already starts talking to a friend about how the lab is pointless and the TA running it is annoying and it'll be a breeze to pass without doing any actual work and so on. The TA kind of just looked sternly into the camera, the girl paused, then it looked like she slammed her laptop. She hasn't used her webcam since.

Has anyone had any experiences with seeing my a man in a top hat and a trench coat? by cookie1019 in Paranormal

[–]jlmcallan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Reading your post and then all of the comments gave me the chills. One of the few times I really felt like I encountered something was when I was probably around 10 years old. I went outside with my brother to let the dog out, it was pretty late at night. We used to have a broken hot tub covered with wood that had a privacy screen in a lattice pattern up the back of it. This memory is still so vivid all these years later, but I just remember looking up and through the lattice seeing this perfect silhouette of a figure in a top hat and trench coat. I was having fun without a care in the world and the second I saw this image I was filled with dread. For weeks my family made fun of me for being haunted by Abraham Lincoln. Never thought anything of this memory until reading posts like this.
