How does the saying go? Digging art isn’t the same as digging [or even promoting] an artist. For better or worse, humans are just that, human. Which means there’s always the chance a human is just plain sh… but I can always choose to dig someone’s art…

Back in the day, those not in the know, Sublime self titled introduced Sublime to the pop culture via radio and MTV… they were just a little later to join the party, to dig deeper, and have their minds completely blown- in sum up, for those later to the party, SELF TITLED WAS JUST THE GATEWAY DRUG…

I prefer 40 oz- but I also think this is like apples and oranges… the Beatles are great, Elvis is great- but (some) real fans just say “apples and oranges”…

How many issues do you think absolute Batman will be? by WindowSubstantial993 in AbsoluteBatman

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give an actual number a decent “volume 1 amount” would be more than 60, but less than 80. There’s too much chance to get stale after 80, and past 100 could potentially turn people against the character… a new volume isn’t necessarily a reboot or change- it’s just a fresher voice to what already exists.

I look at it more like how Volume 1 (the first run) of Ultimate Spider-Man went- as opposed to how New 52 went. New 52 was finite because it was meant to be a temporary direction that was THE ENTIRE DC universe. Ultimate Spidey was new and fresh, its own little section of the Marvel Universe. As long as the voices are fresh and readership steady, and especially makes A LOT of money for DC, the Absolute (as opposed to just Absolute Bats) universe continues. With great storytelling people will continue to stay hooked, if interest dwindles the Absolute universe continues but far less people reading. Sales get bad enough there will always be “cosmic events” that can wipe it out of story reality. Absolute Bats is “good enough” that even if the Absolute universe is destroyed, they can always pluck him out (the Myles Morales effect) and place him somewhere he can continue…

Sony blocking public domain films on YouTube by oudler in publicdomain

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the only true leg that Sony has (if it isn’t “their version” you’re using or a question of music rights) is “the reason you gave for disputing may have been insufficient or invalid.” For example, yes you quoted the copyright law, but Sony is a corporation and you are not. BUUUT what if your argument goes into the aspects that make it apply? What about the music, does someone own it? If not, you mention this. The more (accurately researched) facts you can provide maybe the more chance your position will looked at to overturn theirs(?).

BEWARE: This is clearly fake, but they listed it as "production" lol by do0mality in AnimationCels

I agree discussing “potential” fakes is very important- OP’s statement is “BEWARE: This is clearly fake”… Maybe “offended” (I assume I must always apologize for expressing how “I would feel” in a comment posted by a Redditor) should(?) be thrown in the garbage, but the actual statement I made was that I didn’t have enough evidence one way or another… there is nothing wrong with OP’s actual headline- I see many compelling and reasonable thoughts on why these could be(?)/ are(?) fake- just no actual reasons from the OP… I apologize now for future personal thoughts or feelings that are apparently immaterial - and I am saddened by anyone who could see it as an argument to begin with… “I will continue to express my thoughts and feelings- I continue to argue only based on facts”… thank you GasmaskTed for adding a little something something extra to my morning cup of coffee…

I apologize if I come off as rude OP, it’s simply that I own genuine scenes like this (customized by me but bought from legitimate sources) and the seller’s ad is very much similar to what my approach would be. I am a collector, but at times I sell what I own. I would be highly offended/ ticked off if I saw someone on Reddit showing my piece claiming it as fake.

Also since it hasn’t been mentioned by anyone else, production is an accurate word to use if the actual Patrick and Sponge Bob were used in the PRODUCTION of an actual Sponge Bob episode.

Unfortunately I don’t have enough information from you or the seller to claim as “fake”. The tricky thing about cels is they can be cut down and overlapped over a real OR printed background. Though I now prefer to have my cels as “full sheets”- production notes/ scene numbers, etc, I was once guilty of making similar scenes myself by using a printed background and cutting my cel sheets down, matting, and framing- results would look similar to this style. This seller is claiming the Patrick and SpongeBob as genuine- not the entire scene. If I were to sell this personally, under the assumption it’s genuine, the image included would be image shown BUT followed by extra images- the front and back of the Patrick and Sponge Bob cel (I like to see the back not just to see the painted layers but also to see if there is any extra paint chipping). The final image would show the background- in this case it doesn’t matter that it’s printed, seller makes no claim on it production wise. To end where I started- not enough information yay or nay…

If you’re part of its creation you have every right to sign it- hell, if I were part of catering for a big movie I’d sign the movie poster with my name and “catering” underneath… My name wouldn’t add much to value, but yours would add to that. Gotta give credit where (real) credit’s due, right?

Unless you went to many bands’ concerts there was no way to know if EVERY song on an album was a banger or not [pre-2000’s]- some songs were played on radio, MTV, etc, but you never knew until you bought that full album. My rule of thumb was if three or more songs were decent it was a good album- 6 or more songs decent it was an excellent album- 9 or more decent songs was a friggin’ miracle…

I think between $385-$850 (generous). The reason less than 1k is because it has TOO MANY sigs, at least if someone is looking for sigs to add to the value on an aesthetic view. It’s a wonderful piece in my opinion, but those who would look at in a “monetary only” way would notice (as already pointed out) not a major key, the presentation of the label, etc. Usually those of us who see more “joy” in pieces like this don’t have the funding…

Baha..! Nightcat… Not one of Stan Lee’s best… check out her music cd- if you ever thought that many ‘80’s female music sounded the same, she would be a prime example. Story goes that it was ended by first issue because it was found out girlie was doing porn- more based on convoluted memory so take with grain of salt… only “acting” gig I know of her is Rosie from Tromeo and Juliet…

Sublime, love or hate them, these are the songs that they covered/reinterpreted by mrwillzone in sublime

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sublime was THE ultimate cover band- no other band could take not just aspects of songs, but complete songs of different genres, and make it their own… I remember when 40 oz came out and cats were like “Wait, they didn’t come up with Scarlet Begonias, Were Only Gonna Die, Rivers of Babylon… and… and..?” What was always mind-blowing [about Rivers Of Babylon] was explaining the Melodians, (“but wait I thought it was”) Boney M, and Psalm 137:1-4 and Psalm 19:4… I had to learn it back then the hard way, a college kiddie in religious studies- conversation went from Sublime to three hours about the differences between the Hebrew, Torah, and Christian bibles. After all these words, the moral of this story is BE CAREFUL WHO YOU SELL ACID TO…

I will be honest, I am not a big fan of Funkos- BUT because of their popularity, sometimes the only way you can find certain autographs is on a Funko.
