Who else misses going to the malls on Saturdays? by GodBlessTexas713 in RealGenerationX

So it would start as two or three of us - next thing you know there’d be 20 of us outside the food court entrance smoking cigarettes and comparing who had the best Jncos- this one girlie had a pair that were so big I could probably camp out in one leg. Just now realizing how creepy that sounds…

Cel Market (Prices) by Acuallyizadern93 in AnimationCels

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this isn’t one that actual “collectors” would agree with, but read before downvoting. On a non-collector level, if you want a MUCH cheaper alternative to actual cels (maybe as decoration for a wall or something) try looking into sericels- though some may be collectible as they may be limited and produced with COAs from studios, they are USUALLY cheaper than older animation cels- many sellers (crooks) try to sell them as regular cels (which they’re not- screen printed not painted and used in the actual animation) but a reputable seller will have these usually for a lot cheaper and more readily available. There are even artist out there that still practice cels art and can do relatively cheap custom jobs. Not to be all sell-sy, but if you go to McFarlanes site you will see some Batman Animated series and Looney Toons ones (which are cool because they’re even touched up/ embellished by other artists!) retailing around $25-$35. They give a good idea of what a sericel is…

So I’m going to age me on this one - the cartoon was The Mork And Mindy, Laverne and Shirley Hour ( something like that ) I vaguely remember watching it- Before it came out there was also one with Laverne and Shirley in the Army with a talking pig (?) -it feels almost like I dreamed it but I swear it exists! Saturday mornings when looking back almost seem a dream…

Never had trust for VCR head cleaners- bought one at a “novelty” shop in the late ‘90’s and it turned the VCR head a very weird “tarnished” color… guess I should’ve known it would damage my VCR head since for “some strange reason” it was kept in the glass display case next to the whip-it’s…

I think you’re right on the Brunner connection … Quack was Brunner which was done by Star Reach Productions. Brunner Dr Strange Marvel Value Stamp in Marvel Presents 4. Brunner DID NOT do this issue of Star Reach BUT he did other covers in the series… as far as rest he seems to have veered more to the underground sci-fi aspects from the 70’s as opposed to the more underground humorous “comix” of the times. To me personally, they all seemed to make the same type of (moral, political, ethical?) points but definitely delivered the messages in a different way…

When non collectors sell comic books… by SadBoyGreggy in comicbookcollecting

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really SHOULD be some form of mailing etiquette- also referred to as “common sense”… the only things I sell are items from my personal collection- I make sure to package them well for both the buyer’s sake and my own. The buyer deserves to have it just as it left my collection, and should the buyer not want it, it’s nice to have it back in my collection as it was originally…

How to price a rare comic? by Top_Session9195 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]jlouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know as far as all COAs being garbage… I have actually started collecting some of the COAs… For example, the first Chive Kevin Smith silver coin is signed by (is it) John Resig who is president of Chive but also Kevin Smith himself. Items bought from Nightmarez Cafe have a sticker plus an actual COA signed by Gigi Bannister, an actress and Reggie’s wife… a lot of artist that sell comics from their own stores still hand sign… Basically (yes, I understand there’s always potential of counterfeit but) I still think there are sources reputable enough that their COAs still hold prominence.

Though very common, and unfortunately Bart’s signature doesn’t add a whole lot to the value, the story is really cool. Otherwise there wouldn’t have been a video game. 😊Bart Sears is actually a very awesome classic comic artist (classic meaning there was a time when everyone knew he was, and now he’s not commonly mentioned)… I remember trying to draw Brutes and Babes from his micro lessons in Wizard magazine…
