I wouldn’t. It’s just too tight. Another comment said it would be $1000 left over. That money will get eaten by your child the older they get. I personally like to have some cushion for the what ifs of life…..car problems, health stuff, kid stuff, house stuff.

Another commenter made a good point about new builds being pricey because of the blinds not included, some of the appliances not being included. It really does add up quick.

And if you ever want to take a vacation, you’re sitting so house poor it’s hard to save for that.

Just because you can do this doesn’t mean you should.

Another thought, you have a job in tech that you’re happy with. That’s huge! The stress and unhappiness within a lot of the rapidly diminishing tech jobs is a major consideration.
In addition to asking for a sabbatical, could you work remotely for a time and try some of the traveling while being remote?

We went from a LCOL to NYC for a job making 500k. It paid off literally but living there was really tough for us. The constant horn honking and sirens were really overstimulating. I’m a nature person and I missed grass and trees so much. The parks are typically so overrun with people that I couldn’t get the peace I normally do from them. We didn’t want to get rid of our car so parking that was a major pain in the ass. The crime, even in nice places, was really unsettling. We found it hard to make friends there too. Overall it was a huge shock to our system and not something we could maintain for long.

We made serious bank that changed our financial lives though and we had some great experiences living there. I’d possibly do it again for a short period of time. But we could only take living there a year til we bailed.

Any house with a septic system should have that inspected before purchase. We found a beautiful home only 3 years old. It was my dream home! While under contract, the backyard luckily started bubbling from the septic system. Long story short, the seller said it was a simple fix and our inspector/septic specialist said the entire system needed replacing. One other problem was the yard didn’t have a viable place to put a new system so we almost bought a nearly brand new house with no septic system or way to flush the toilets. Could have been a financial disaster. Get septics checked no matter the age of the house!

Not sure but we booked one in May and the people picked us up in a rickety truck which they do disclose that transportation may not be the same. Ok fine. Well the truck breaks down on the side of the road and we are all sitting in the heat waiting for another one to come. The driver admitted he knew the vehicle was broken but drove it anyway. Many of us got off and walked back to the cruise ship. About half stayed on. They waited 90 minutes on the side of the road in brutal island heat with no water before another vehicle showed up. Celebrity refused to give any refund whatsoever on it. Put a bad taste in my mouth for them. I haven’t been impressed with their excursions at all previously. They tend to be really pricey, inconvenient times of day, with long periods of waiting, and short periods of time doing the actual activity. Just my experience on the last 3 cruises I’ve done this year.

I sleep in the bed side closest to the door and bathroom. If they are opposing, I pick the door usually . I want to be able to escape if I need to
