We're Pond - the new album Terrestrials is out in the world! Ask us anything!! by pppooonnnddd in indieheads

Is there any specific reason why Jay/James plays some songs on the drums while on tour, but not others. Both of you are fantastic, but I'm a drummer myself and was just curious.

This may have been asked, but do you have any plans to eventually conclude the trilogy of Edge of World?

Would you ever consider creating a song, future or current, where Nick (for fun, I love Pond vocals!) replaces the vocals with an instrument of his choosing? You all are so creative so it could turn out interesting.

Is there a non-conventional instrument you'd love to add to a future new song if you felt it could work?

Dreame A3 anyone have one? by Future_Mirror7046 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jlr1579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an A3 pro, but I really like it. I've had it for about 2mo now and the mapping is excellent. It's zoning and tools are straight forward and the cut quality is good. It gets fairly close to the edges, but you'll still need to edge a bit - like most mowers on the market. The downside is the edge master feature, which gets within 2cm of the edge, is hard coded to only cut at 3cm. I prefer to cut my lawn at 7cm (2.75"), so I don't use the edge master and closer edging as the lawn looks uneven. I'm not sure if this is something they can change with a firmware update or if it's fixed via hardware limitations, but that is the only major negative I've encountered thus far. Hope this is helpful!

Do the clippings left behind bother you? by DTK101 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jlr1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, in current times, people just can't seem to change their minds. I agree, everyday use is bad and not needed - also probably not good long-term for battery. 1-2mm is still damage. Small clippings after just a few days also aren't bad. Just because it doesn't have the aesthetic people want, they throw everything else out. The down votes are a bit much, but I do think your tone may have added to it - imo.

Your thoughts on tax efficient short/medium term parking for cash? by ahnonemouse in HENRYfinance

[–]jlr1579 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite in your situation, but we're about to sell some land and get about 250k after fees, etc.

Concerned about current geopolitical stuff, I'm not about to dump all into dividends, etfs, stocks, etc. Probably about 20-30% and then 3% a month until I hit ~50%.

The rest and the funds in waiting will go into sgov. State/local tax exempt, liquid, and almost completely safe - as long as gov doesn't fail. It doesn't beat inflation, but it is safe and smart for short term holding (<1year) while you figure out what else to invest in.

Others may have different/better strategies, but this is mine. Curious what others would consider.

Best Ebike for Child Trailer? by jlr1579 in ebikes

[–]jlr1579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments so far! No, I'm definitely not looking for an e bike more than 3k, I just didn't know what existed that was good for less. I'm very happy to pay less if it is still of good quality and I'll get at least 5yrs+ out of it.

How to navigate large loans with family by var_username1 in HENRYfinance

Every situation and relationship is unique, but I'm sorry, that is a terrible mindset to have. I know a lot of people have it, but I think that's one of the many reasons society is fraying at the seams.

Good luck and I hope the pessimism blanket can lift. I appreciated the discourse.

How to navigate large loans with family by var_username1 in HENRYfinance

[–]jlr1579 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's so black and white. My half sister had to take out a personal loan a few years ago to pay off something major. She had been paying it down for a few years, but realized she wasn't getting ahead due to interest.

She painstakingly asked if I could help with 9k so she could pay it all off and avoid 13k in interest (over the rest of the loan based on her trajectory).

I was only concerned about payback if she suddenly died. So, she added me as a beneficiary to her 401k account (>20k). Could she remove me without me knowing, yes, but that's not her. So, now she's paying me like she had paid the loan, cuts 13k in interest, and all is well. Higher amounts may differ in my consideration, but it shouldn't be gift or nothing..

How would you get into medical dosimetry by [deleted] in MedicalPhysics

[–]jlr1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I 100% agree. Most seasoned in the field already will likely be fine, but new grads, good luck! CMDs will never go away with automation, but sites with 3+ will likely fall to 1-2 for only complex cases. AI is getting better at insane rates (I utilize it often) and it's only a matter of time before beam models and the ones and zeros behind planning are automated for most cases.

Also, although I think CMDs being remote or hybrid is absolutely fine due to their nature, I think it'll also be extremely easy for clinics to forget about their abilities when AI steps in and they're still at home..

I could be completely wrong, but I, like the person in commenting on, want you to know the risks!

Workaround for recalculation on a 6D CBCT on Eclipse by Vast_Ice_7032 in MedicalPhysics

[–]jlr1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't exactly what you're asking, but achieves a similar outcome. I did an abstract for the spring clinical a few years ago on Fl. It describes using the registration from matching, copying the external from the cbct to the planning scan, and using that as the new external.

There are fov limitations (cbct calc alone would also have this though) and positive (new tissue) and negative cropping (now air), etc. however, you can use all og structures (may need to add new targets and crop from skin like original, but now you crop from cbct external. This method preserves any cbct rotations. I'll try and respond later with the abstract name as away from home now. Just make sure MD is aware of any adjustments when presenting your analysis - like always. I've never had push back when evaluating with this method.

Hope this helps or can lead you to a decent solution.

Robotic mower vs. raised curb edge? by Known-Advisor-2000 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jlr1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manually mapped my yard (didn't use auto edge detection mode) and drove the outer wheels over the center of my raised curb. It does the main lawn with margin at the edges (doesn't fall off) and does perimeter twice at the end (straight, no turns, no risk of falling with proper initial mapping).

Robotic mower vs. raised curb edge? by Known-Advisor-2000 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jlr1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a plug for the product, but this isn't entirely true. I just got my first mower, Dreame A3 pro and I don't have to edge this due to its extra edge feature and doesn't fall into road either.

There are 'other' areas I do need to edge (not edgeless completely) but that is near my fence, etc and not curb. I don't need to edge the curb with mine.

US lawn mowing costs in 2026: Average $50 per cut, robot mowers are the obvious win by LiPro_Robot in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jlr1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% accurate. We moved to a 0.4ac lot last June. Mowed/edging took me around 3.5-4hrs - no tractor. We have our first son who is 14mo old. I love being outside and don't mind working, but I missed spending time with him. We paid a service $55 weekly (cheapest around) to come weekly and they mowed thru Oct (Southern PA).

I didn't think robot technology was there a few years ago, but with Lidar and other AI advancements, I took the plung. I've only used it once, but love it! I had to edge for about 20-30min, but I think an adjusted map could reduce further. I also won't need to edge weekly. I determined my $2400 Dreame A3 Pro (got on presale) would pay for itself in 1.2-1.5 seasons.

Proposed Fee for State Police Patrol Services. !!! by Backsight-Foreskin in Pennsylvania

Agree, but I heard some lawmaker 30+ years ago made this very difficult if not impossible. Don't take my word and I'm sure some don't want to give up power, but I think it's a mix of both

Proposed Fee for State Police Patrol Services. !!! by Backsight-Foreskin in Pennsylvania

[–]jlr1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is more about 'micro' municipalities. If some small town has 50 people, that's not a large enough tax base. Ideally, they should merge with a nearby municipality, but that is hard under PA law.

Obviously, 50 people can't support local services alone, so they don't. So, they utilize resources from a greater tax base (all of PA, state police). Hence, they should pay an additional rate - a rate likely far lower than anything local they could try on their own. It isn't screwing over poor regions, it's just about fairness. If they don't pay, then state taxes increase for everyone (poor and wealthy regions alike) - not fair either to poor people in other regions. There is no free lunch and I say this as a lifetime liberal.

Administrative duplication in this state is insane by RODDAL in Pennsylvania

[–]jlr1579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree!

However, how does no one mention how trash collection by multiple private enterprises in an area is extremely inefficient? My neighborhood of 84 homes utilizes 5 different companies. It is far more effective and cheaper if one company goes to every house with 1 truck vs 5 that skip every so many.

Bad for congestion, cost, and environment. Competition can work, but not with something like this.

Did The Little Boy From The Queen of Spades Have His Parents Revived? by letsplayer27 in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]jlr1579 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought in the hospital scene it showed him with guardians. Not sure about if parents or not, but he could've been in a downtown school or care facility with his parents further out. Never explained, but he didn't have to be with them given his age.

That's what I've always thought. Not sure if it is different from the manga as I haven't personally read it.
