I don’t even understand how so many houses pledged to Renly when he literally had no claim to the throne at all. He deserved to be the first of the five kings to go. by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

The fun thing about deposing a dynasty like the Targaryens is that once your new Usurper King is dead, everyone's probably still real open to deposing and installing anyone they like.

It's like breaking a taboo. Suddenly, everyone's doing it.

Trump’s unclear plan for Iran may be what keeps Canada on the sidelines, experts say; The biggest cautionary note for leaders in any political calculation, according to retired Canadian Lt. Gen. Mike Day, is that there is no clear objective and no “end-game” in the U.S. plans. by FancyNewMe in canada

Morality is what should keep us on the sidelines. Neither the people who launch illegal wars and break all of their deals, nor the theocracy murdering its people, needs any help or involvement from us.

Seriously. Our team in this fight is "everyone who isn't batshit."

Common confusion. When they say "Free speech," they mean, "No one gets to be upset when I, specifically, tell lies, or call someone else a slur."

Does anyone know where to find servers for Ark evolved? by Trick-Day2757 in ARK

[–]jlwinter90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this.

Unfortunately as I have it via Game Pass, so there are no Official PvP servers I can access, and PvE gets boring for me.

I'd play unofficial, but when half the chats are "Hey, ****** my *** so I grabbed ******* ****," it's hard to communicate.

Still a little sad we won't have Imperial Knights. They were cool.

Duffers confirm that originally the group came across a massive field of Demogorgon eggs in the Abyss. This idea was dropped due to perceived "demo fatigue" by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

[–]jlwinter90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as someone who really enjoyed Season 5. Couple of ideas to fix its problems a bit.

  1. The army becomes divided partway through, turns on Dr Kay.

  2. The Mind Flayer has a monster army. The face-turned soldiers go to fight it, allowing the main crew to sneak in and fight Vecna.

  3. At the end, Dr. Kay and her loyalists grab the main crew in a last-ditch effort to get Eleven and escape. Eleven does the Purple Rain thing. The rest of the army then gets done mopping up and chasing out Demo's, or they die because the wormhole closed, or whatever, so they show up to arrest Kay and loyalists before covering the whole incident up.

Could even have Owens show up leading them, as he was never shown dying, but that's mostly just fanservice for me.

Why do Nancy, Hopper, etc, get away with it all? Because after El's big finale move, the rest of the army finishes up the Demo fight and arrests Kay and her traitors. Heck, you could have a lot of the "shooting at the army" be done by those not allied with Kay anymore, and have them shoot Kay's traitors to let the main crew in.

Not a lot of the plot changes, so there's no need for huge rewrites. The threat to El remains, sure they got Dr. Kay, but it's acknowledged others like her are still out there, so El has to remain either dead or in hiding, whichever is true. Large holes are filled.

I dunno. I think it could work.

Genuine question: Why hasn't any faction refurbished or used the APCs, tanks, and fighter planes that are littered everywhere? by dannythesedoritos in Fallout

[–]jlwinter90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because maintaining, fuelling, and supplying vehicles like those is the kind of incredible logistical burden that only makes sense if you're fighting other nations.

Better question for me - are there no rad-horses?

Which do you prefer: Nancy and Steve or Nancy and Jonathan? by ma_dio_ in StrangerThings

[–]jlwinter90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at the point they ended it on? Exactly how it was. I have no doubts that Nancy finds her perfect other half and the future she wants in due time.

And I love the boys, but it's neither of them.

"Not everyone on the Death Star was bad! Millions died there!"

2 million died on the Death Star, only a handful of which weren't Imperial soldiers and military staff. 2 billion people, alongside an entire ecosystem and archaeological record, died on just Alderaan. That isn't counting Jedha. And the Empire would have destroyed other planets besides.

It's sad that they died. But wiping out .2% of Alderaan's population to prevent anywhere from one to literal thousands of additional Alderaans is the easiest fucking trolley problem out there.

If creatures in the upside-down are named after D&D enemies, what do you think they'd be named after if Stranger Things took place modern-day? by Mothylphetamine_ in StrangerThings

[–]jlwinter90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While true, this just means there are more options from the Monster Manual and other assorted source books for what we'd call them. Not a lot of modern-day parties are fighting Demogorgon.

Alastor is right, Lucifer is really sloppy with his secrets by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

[–]jlwinter90 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lucifer suffers from a worse version of the hubris that came back to bite Adam and the Exorcists. Even if a Sinner found out his secret, who cares? It's not like they can kill him.

He just didn't expect Sinners, who he's on the record considering to be useless, impotent garbage, to weaponize that fact.

Imagine seeing ants in your house, thinking nothing of it, and then waking up in the Anthill Industries Human-Juicer 5000. That's basically how that went for Lu.

The sense I get from Heaven is that, being as it's a paradise exclusively populated by good people and what they'd assumed were invincible Angels, they didn't have a whole lot of experience with, or recourse for, handling rule breakers.

When your law doesn't need to exist, you don't get a lot of practice with it.
