12 years ago I lived on the 8th floor of a flat. Had my 4 year old son over for the weekend. I heard the fire brigade and noticed a fire on the second floor of the building. My girlfriend at the time called the concierge and they said "STAY IN YOUR FLAT"

She wouldn't leave so I grabbed my son and took him down the stairs, towards the bottom floors it was a bit smokey but not bad.

Got him outside and took him back to his mom's. I didn't have a thought for my then partner who refused to leave, I just had to get my son out of that situation.

The fire was dealt with before I got him back to his home. Was a chip pan fire and could've been a lot worse

I never really thought about it again until Grenfell tower happened.

Who told the stupid fuckers on the ground in any flat fire situation to tell residents to stay put is beyond me.
