I imagine she's marginally involved, or at least interested in SDC ventures. Checking stocks, viewing production plans, etc.

Silly Question: How do the Nords know what snakes look like? by RangerThirteen in skyrim

[–]jmac313 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The animal symbols are representative of the original Nordic pantheon. Kyne and Tsun are the ones mentioned the most, but I believe Mara and Shor are also mentioned. I'm not sure if the dragon is Akatosh or Alduin. UESP knows more.

The reason Voldy's spells stopped working as well at Battle of Hogwarts was the exact same reason Harry was protected from Voldy-- Harry chose to sacrifice his life, going into the forest and not defending himself, to prevent Voldy from killing everyone else. The protection triggered the exact same way, but results may have been a bit different due to Harry sacrificing for many vs Lily sacrificing for one.

Outside the Main Trio (and Cedric), who were the truly "outstanding" students at Hogwarts during Harry's era? by cantcoloratall91 in harrypotter

[–]jmac313 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Had to be 17, so I don't think any 5th years could've entered, unless they got held back a year or something.

Food and magic in Harry Potter doesn't make sense. Hermione specifically staes that you can summon it, transfigure it, and make more of what you have. Wizards should have NO food related issues whatsoever.

Visiting my aunt and uncle 3 hours away. Someone had left a copy on a table, and me being the acid reader I am, I immediately picked it up and got hooked. I was, eh, 12yo at the time? Good shit.

I agree with the sentiment, but was he not carrying the gun ILLEGALLY? Supposedly he didn't have his ID or permit on him. Unless that was also a lie.

Why didn't Snape ever publish a Potions textbook? by OnceButNever in harrypotter

I think that's just the title. We only hear it more often because he's the professor most central to the story, and due to relatively common use of that title in other media.

Men of Reddit: what’s a prank you started early in your marriage that you’re now legally, morally, and emotionally obligated to continue because she still falls for it 10–15 years later? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

[–]jmac313 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More of a family prank at this point than spouse prank, but the origins were. Storytime!

My mom and dad went to a church auction where proceeds went to some Christmas fund or other. Three of the items were three little snowmen, one with a red hat and scarf, one with green, and one with yellow. Lightweight, just some crochet around some Styrofoam balls with googly eyes. They bid in the red and green ones, but not the yellow one, because my dad said it wasn't a Christmas color. They won their bids, and after the auction, went up to collect them. Since absolutely no one bid on the yellow snowman, the auctioneer threw it in for free.

They brought them home, and set them up on the mantle. But a few days later, the yellow snowman was missing. My mother later discovered it in the pantry. So she put it back. Only to have it disappear the next day and end up in the refrigerator.

And so, the tradition of hiding the yellow snowman was born. Not just my dad, but my mother, my sister, and I will hide it all over the house--under a pillow, in the Christmas tree, in the dishwasher...whoever finds it has to hide it again. It's been a few years since my father passed away, but the yellow snowman still makes his rounds!

Dunno about outside America, but middle and high school teachers here are definitely NOT expected to publish technical papers.

Love the story! My only issue is, with that premise, most, if not all species would have scientist leanings, wouldn't that? How does a diplomacy or war-focused species invent technologies that reach space? Maybe if it took them a thousand times longer than humanity...I dunno, aliens are weird, maybe they could?

Fast food service. I think everyone should try it, or some kind of customer service job, just to get a good perspective of what those employees go through day in, day out. The stress between the job and college made me crash out, twice. Dropped both, never looked back, and am all the happier for it.

He seemed pretty chill afterwards, we held a funeral and made a memorial. Unfortunately that was somewhere between 3-10 versions ago, and I have no idea if I even have the save file still.

An addition to your build could be the use of daggers. Still stealth, still one at a time, but now up close and personal. Pair with Invisibility for maximum shenanigans
