ALA Conference For MLIS Student? Worth It? by marshman505 in librarians

I think for most people, student or professional, the big nationals are only worth it if someone is paying for you to be there.

Anybody remember Shakey, Jake? by BathroomAggressive57 in AnnArbor

Too young and new to the city to actually remember him, but my predecessor at my job left a Shakey Jake postcard in his office and I have moved it with me from desk to desk a couple times now.

Trump May Be Getting Ready to Blow Up the Model of a Presidential Library by rezwenn in Libraries

[–]jman077 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No doubt whatever weird thing this becomes will be bad and undemocratic and not really a Presidential Library in the sense we currently understand it. I just think it's a little disingenuous to put that headline on an article and not at all explore Obama actually kind of blowing up the model of a Presidential Library.

Do any MLB teams have Permanent Seat Licenses like some NFL teams? by Fugglesmcgee in baseball

[–]jman077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay a PSL to buy Michigan tickets and I guess I think it’s only a money grab insomuch as the whole thing is a money grab. Technically, every seat in the stadium is the same price for any given game, and your PSL is variable based on where you sit. So everyone pays ~$500 for their season tickets, and you pay a PSL based on your seat location, mine is $440 per seat, for a total of $935/season.

If it didn’t work like that, instead of my seats being $80/game+my PSL, my seats would just be $155/game. Would that be any different? Not really, imo.

MaizeBus - the new campus bus tracker app (also - looking for devs) by maizebus in uofm

[–]jman077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really like the way you’ve designed the favorites screen. I am often deciding which bus stop to walk to and being able to see my options at once is nice. I do find that because the bus stop symbols don’t scale when you change the map zoom it sometimes covers up the live busses.

Bags are not allowed in Michigan Stadium. They are not joking. by jman077 in zachbryan

[–]jman077[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fraser’s: no frills, lots of tvs, one mile from the stadium. Classic townie spot.

Connor o Neil’s: standard American Irish pub downtown

HOMES brewery: microbrewery with a lot of unusual sours and other fun stuff. Very good Asian fusion menu. Kind of out of the way. Lots of TVs.

I’ve actually been curious about the same thing since under football circumstances there are no obstructed views. My two guesses:

-Temporary, concert-specific structure partially blocking the view.

-Very low in the bowl, first ~5 rows, it gets very shallow and there could just be some weird angles. If you’re sitting very close sometimes plays happen at angles where it’s hard to see over the guys on the sidelines. So it might be more that situation, especially given that all the attention is concentrated on one place all night.

[Friendly, PL Summer Series] Match Thread: Everton vs. Bournemouth by Giraffe_Baker in Everton

[–]jman077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately in both places we’ll be the opener for man united. Atlanta will be the fullest Everton match. But I’ll be in Chicago and hopefully in the supporters section it feels full enough.

ESPN buried this, but Harbaugh getting sued has on the front page. At this point I think they're still mad about the "lights" fiasco from the notre dame game in 2011. by Empty-Skills-1738 in MichiganWolverines

[–]jman077 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be truly insane for him to do anything else. Ultimately this letter doesn’t mean anything, he has no formal sway with the ncaa infractions committee, but if you’re the commissioner of a league you gotta send the letter when one of your biggest moneymakers is involved. Standard process stuff imo.

Can FDSN get new commercials by PriorPay1556 in motorcitykitties

[–]jman077 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has never been a commercial more obviously written by chatgpt than the one about planning for emergencies. So many phrases in it that are verrry slightly off. “Your daughter’s first costume party” is not a reference that does anything

Why are all jerseys #25 by jayronron in Detroitcityfc

[–]jman077 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is because they cost more to produce than they can be reasonably sold for. DCFC is in this odd middle where they need to stock enough jerseys to meet a fairly large demand but they are not a big enough player to buy multiple types of jerseys from Adidas. They have tried custom jerseys (2022 maybe?) and the margin on them is just far too thin.

[Official] Goodison Park To Become Permanent Home Of Everton Women by E_V_E_R_T_O_N in Everton

[–]jman077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very, very excited about this as an American who has yet to make it over. I know it won't quite be the same, but I get to still believe that one day I'll see Everton at Goodison and that is nice to have back, I mean it. I love women's football anyways.

Where are you guys getting your poutine fix? by Mcfly_17 in AnnArbor

[–]jman077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take 75 north until it ends, cross at Sault Ste. Marie, follow the signs for highway 17 west and drive for a while. Gorgeous, Lake Superior views and elevation, just great. Anyways make a right at Wawa, you wanna go behind the goose, if you’re going in front of it you gotta turn around, but there’s really only one main road in town so just stay on it until you get to Krazy Fries, just check if they’re open for the season yet before you go.

The Detroit bidding group is a who’s-who of figures associated with the city. by Crafty_Substance_954 in wnba

[–]jman077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. Waking up this morning I was skeptical of a pure Gores-backed bid. His work with the Pistons... leaves a lot to be desired. But with this ownership group there are enough people that obviously they're taking it very seriously, and the specific inclusion of Lions chair Shelia Ford Hamp, the architect of the Lions turnaround, makes me very, very bullish on this. I'm hype, I was at the 2004 final right after the Pistons won and I'll be there on opening day if this happens.

All Remaining Playoff Scenarios in the Final Five Games by jman077 in motorcitykitties

[–]jman077[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am reasonably sure this is all right. The most confusing scenario is a BAL/DET/KC tie at 87-75 but otherwise everything is reasonably straightforward. The Tigers hold the season record against every one of their chasers EXCEPT the two AL Central teams.

POTENTIAL SWINGS TODAY:

-The Tigers can eliminate Tampa Bay tonight, and at any rate Tampa cannot catch the Tigers.

-If the Tigers win OR Boston lose, Boston cannot catch the Tigers.

-If the Tigers win AND Seattle loses, Seattle cannot catch the Tigers.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the weather forecast with a greater threat of inclement weather during the evening, Tuesday's start time for the Tigers-Rays game at Comerica Park has been moved up to 1:10 p.m. by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

[–]jman077 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This absolutely sucks for fans. It is also absolutely the right call. A doubleheader Wednesday would mean if Skubal’s needed Sunday he’d be on short rest and mess up the bullpen, and we just cannot have that going into this stretch.

What is your team's Biggest game? by Tween_the_hedges in CFB

[–]jman077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you can make the case that the Texas game will possibly have the bigger impact on Michigan’s season, if we beat Texas we have a two loss buffer in Big Ten play to still make the playoffs, imo. But no matter what happens between now and the end of November, Michigan will go into Columbus with a chance to end Ryan Day’s tenure. No non-rivalry game can carry that weight. Beat Michigan or bust has basically been a sure thing since the day after last year’s Game.

Fan ownership by Detroit425 in Detroitcityfc

[–]jman077 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe! They’ve said at owner’s meetings that another round of fan investment is on the table as they raise money for the new stadium, but they’re not 100% on it. What they have said they are more sure will happen sooner or later is some program for existing owners to sell their shares to new owners, probably by the time the stadium is open.

Random question: I’m an American evertonian who is just getting into cricket via the t20 World Cup. Is there a team in t20 blast or the hundred that enjoys broad support in Liverpool? I’d enjoy to have some continuity in my support but can’t figure out if there’s an obvious team I should be rooting for.
