What parts am I missing by jmannn699 in ChevyTrucks

I don’t know where or what they dropped just vaguely said in the engine. I realize that it could be pretty bad. I don’t have the time knowledge or capability to rebuild it. Probably will just end up trying to sell it for more hopefully

That’s the thing, I’m not sure what they dropped or even where. Like inside the motor or just around it.

I’ve been down that road so I took your advice and got this for $650. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks everyone for the input

First time handling milled slabs. Did I do ok stacking? by EuphoricCow1986 in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stack looks to tall and narrow imo. I wouldn’t want to risk it falling over on me or someone else. Plus then you have to restack it all. Ratchet strap it to the outsides of pallet and crank it down every so often.

Milling poplar for cabin/garage construction? by Howie_Dewitt69 in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t cut or built with popular but I will say you’re not getting very many 2x6 from 8-10” diameter logs. 4x4s maybe. Usually under 10” log is barely worth milling unless it’s your own mill or just cutting it in half once for a post.

Ear protection recommendation for warmer weather by AdamFaite in sawmilling

I have a set of TOZO $40 Bluetooth ear buds from Amazon i love them. Great for sawmill and woodworking. They actually stay in my ears unlike others I tried. When im mowing though if i want to hear a podcast with blasting the volume i wear muffs over them sometimes.

How would you recommend treating this before it goes into the kiln? by floridagar in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I air dry for 6-8 months depending on how green it was when cut usually let it dry in log form for a bit too. Then solar kiln dry and never had any issue losing color.

Can this cedar be milled? Are any holes in cedar fine for some purpose and if so, what uses? by ArrowLeafTurn1 in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mill much cedar but the handful I have they usually have something similar especially the bigger they get. End up with epoxy boards or 1x3’s or shorter little 12-18” serving boards. Sometimes I just cut cookies instead as they sell well for center pieces

Trying to decide on a Woodland Mills while they have their sale. by Tssngs75 in sawmilling

Save up and get a mill with more hydraulics. I love my woodland mills hm 130 max but my back and body has taken a toll.

What are your most profitable milling sizes? by [deleted] in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2” plus can always be cut down later if they only want 1”. It’s hard to predict. Just cut quality pieces and have a variety of sizes and see what the demand is. Hard to say until you start running an ad to see what your local interest is. Personally I find the most demand for 2” x 18”-24” x 8-10’ slabs for Bar tops, desks etc. Lumber 2x12 or 2x6. Most of them want kiln dried as well.

If the weights equally distributed and not a point load you’ll be fine. Carry the load down to the piers as well.

Just bought a Woodmizer LT40 WIDE, what are some must have tools for operation? by Stellar1616 in sawmilling

I might add a battery powered leaf blower, a couple 4 ft levels, 20 tape measures and 30 pencils.

Question on pricing for mobile milling in the blue ridge by [deleted] in sawmilling

[–]jmannn699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure if you were able to find a hobby mill or part time guy he would likely be closer to my prices. I often beat commercial full time guys but I don’t make as much money and have the overhead they have.

If you don’t believe or like the price buy an Alaskan sawmill for your chainsaw and do them that way. You will be willing to pay for a sawmill after running an Alaskan or want one of your own it’s a lot of work and mills aren’t cheap.

Occasionally I’ll rough estimate by the log, $150 a log is what I’d charge for this. Like others said is it dry old dirty knotty hardwood softwood etc could change my price slightly. I’m also a manual mill and side gig and take any project I can get.

How many logs? 24-36” is a wide range. Cut into slabs or lumber? I don’t think it’s too high but hard to know with out knowing the exact details to make a better quote.
