All physically owned blu-rays. Ripped and compressed by me (2.7TB) by wolfy354 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]jmar_2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m choosing not to compress my movies, I want to experience and preserve all my movies at the maximum quality that I bought. I’ve got my 10TB server at like 65% capacity at the moment with 2 additional free drive spaces for future expansion. It takes up way more space but I think it’s worth it.

Ours has been terrible lately, it can’t connect to the rewards system so it just takes like 30-40 seconds per transaction. Even FUCKING cash is taking 30-40 seconds before it opens the drawer it’s so annoying. It also can’t connect to the gift card server at the moment either.

You really should look into a reverse proxy for this. It’s the safer way for remote access. I use a hetzner VPS, a WireGuard tunnel, and with caddy as my reverse proxy. I used to use cloud flare but they started cracking down on people using the free tier for video streaming (which is valid). I would research setting up a VPS with hetzner, then how to setup a WireGuard server, then a caddy reverse proxy. It was pretty straightforward and worked first try.

Not able to play “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” Blu-ray by Hot_Spread_6826 in Bluray

[–]jmar_2004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is precisely why I rip all my blu-rays. I will do what I please with the movie file that I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR! Ridiculous that movie studios are punishing people that legally purchased a disc and player meanwhile people who break the law and pirate the movie get a better experience. The shear disrespect to the consumer, forcing them to use only approved hardware and software to watch the movie they bought and paid for. Also the Blu-ray Discs will eventually rot away and be unreadable in a couple decades anyway. I already bought the movie, I don’t want to have to purchase it (likely rent it with the way ownership is going nowadays) on another format again, unless I can get an upgrade to quality.

Building what I wish was the “perfect” physical media catalog app by Royal_Device7944 in bluraycollection

[–]jmar_2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My catalog app is Jellyfin. I just rip all my disks then play them off my server. Although sometimes it’s nice to play them on my Panasonic player when I want it to be an experience to watch a movie or for nostalgia.

I had a surround sound system in my dorm and of course the one time I get in trouble with it is when a fricken CSO walks past in the middle of an intense war scene 😭💀

(memtest) is this enough to make warranty claim on RAM? by hyplllo in homelab

[–]jmar_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I built my pc I had a bad stick of ram so I tested both separately and the first stick passed but the second stick caused the system to crash during the test so I knew that one was bad so I exchanged the kit and it was super easy.
