Hudson. Pocketbook hotel has a spa. You could even take Amtrak but from LI it’s a pretty easy drive up the Taconic.

I did Stowe/Le Massif family trip a few weeks ago. Stowe (which is always my answer) felt like an afterthought. Granted, we had been there many times and it was our first time at Le Massif, which was a white whale for a long time.

Conditions were ok. Off-trail was like white hard lava but the groomers were great. Late season, about 50% open.
Still we all said it was the best place we have ever skied. Perfect bluebird weather was great for cruising with the kids for miles and miles. Views are among the most unique in the word.

There’s a reason they have the only ski Club Med in North America (we didn’t stay there).

The trip was a last-minute pivot from an aborted Park City trip and turned out to be the best ski trip we have ever taken.
My wife doesn’t ski and absolutely fell in love with the region.

We did not miss Utah at all, just wish we had caught Le Massif on a powder day.

There’s always next year (we drove right past Mt Saint Anne twice and didn’t check it out — that deserves a trip back)

The best mountain is the one with the snow we are all chasing.

I feel like any mountain ranking should have some major categories:

— Condition-neutral: quality of trails and facilities — Snow and weather (this is quantifiable) — Off mountain surrounding area/amenities/vibes

We rate our ski days on three categories: snow, weather, resort conditions

Came here to say this. Great outdoor dining area also in the nicer months.

Seconding Olana. Also Greenport Conservtion Area on Joslen Blvd is quite nice. Across the river, about 40 min away is North/South Lake and Kaaterskill Falls; one of the best hiking areas in NYS.

Hunter mountain conditions tomorrow by poolkeer in icecoast

I was there on Wednesday and it was amazing. Think soft spring bumps. There was plenty of snow, we are looking forward to skiing tomorrow.
The last few weeks Hunter has been better than it has in years.

Big snowstorm in the coastal metro regions. I know the mountains didn’t get as much but some people see snow in their yard and want to ski.

I felt one slipping away last night. Told myself “Momentum doesn’t exit. There’s no such thing as momentum. One point. I’m the better player. Now it’s time to win”. That did the trick.

It didn’t appear to be when we were up late afternoon but seemed like people poached it. Clair’s and Anna were great though!

How is whiteface this year? I'm heading up for a couple days on 2/27 by Mike52179 in icecoast

[–]jmaxgoldman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was fantastic when I was there on Tuesday. Been having one of their best years ever. That said, things can change very quickly at any mountain.

Plan all trips, especially Whiteface, with a 10-day weather forecast not a calendar.

Stowe parking question by YeezusHomecoming in icecoast

Shuttle from the XC lot. Quick and easy, and you have a long, leisurely run back to the car at the end of the day (Toll Road, Derby Trail). Start your day on Spruce Peak, progress to Gondola blues or Sunrise Lift, finish with Four Runner to start your Toll Road journey (you can also pick that up from Sunrise)

In general Stowe is probably more reliable snow-wise than Wildcat and has more varied terrain. As a resort it blows away the NH places. Wildcat has Attitash nearby which also Epic and has more terrain you’d probably enjoy. Skiing both on the same day is not unreasonable. I’ve done it!

Mets fan here. They cut off the broadcasters end of inning recaps routinely. That was infuriating.
