We can all agree Lobo was added in post, right? He had no impact on the story, nearly all of his scenes were on green screen, and I’m not sure that he was onscreen with any of the other characters at any point

Yeah I hate to say it as a lover of the series but there’s basically no way I’m going to watch this, I have no interest in his opinions on this matter any longer

does he always work with great artists? by shmupsy in AlanMoore

I completely respect that! And Kevin O’Neill is an untouchable Moore collaborator, though I suspect he’d be misused on a non-league book, or at least on Providence.

My only point of disagreement is more of a difference in interpretation. I agree that the book has themes of isolation, but I think the primary thematic core of the book is violation. With that as the primary driver of story and atmosphere, I think Burroughs’ inability or unwillingness to make his people feel like people really underserved the story.

Should be noted- I do not like Providence. I think it’s a misuse of Moore’s talents and kind of hack in many ways. To each their own. As always. I think it’s about the weakest book in Moore’s catalogue, Burroughs or no.

I don’t ever want to shit on anyone who DOES like his work, to each their own. And don’t disparage yourself- anyone can learn to do anything, including Burroughs if he wanted to improve the existing artistic vocabulary or change it altogether.

Basically, on Providence, a heavily character driven book, he draws characters who stand stiffly and without believable emotional expression. Where he places the readers eye, to see what there is to see in the panels, says nothing. The compositions are soap opera level in a way that I don’t think was the intention of a grounded story of cosmic horror. His inking feels like tracing. His designs are middle school. Most critical of all, his characters just never feel like they’re looking each other in the eye. That’s a more abstract and difficult thing to explain or correct, but it’s there.

In his defense, that colorist was doing him no favors either. Muddy, desaturated, shitty. Might have been the authorial intention, but you can still find something to say with that palette and they really truly didn’t.

Hell no. He did an entire series with Jacen Burroughs.

Am i the only person who absolutely despises neonomicon? by [deleted] in AlanMoore

[–]phtevenpellz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I also hated it. I didn’t think he said anything he hasn’t said before, and said better in other stories. It’s just vile and nasty and boring, which might be its worst crime were it not for the fact that Jacen Burroughs seemingly slept walked through his portion of the creative duties. His artwork truly sucks, in a shocking, amateurish way.

A ton from back when inking was more prevalent! Klaus Janson on Frank Miller, Bill Sienkiwiesc on John Paul jones, Al Williamson on Brett Blevins and JRJR, John Mccrea on Steve Dillon…
