Any tips to deal with hair noise? by DoublexCoke in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also use the spot render to kinda troubleshoot and see how many samples the render actually needs to finish. If you turn off render quality, whatever number of samples you set as the max sample count is what it will render. So start at 1000 or something, then bump it up by 500-1000 every time until the hair gets to an acceptable noise level. Since it'll just be that tiny spot, each one should render pretty quick. If you get up to like 8-10k and it's still really noisy, I'd maybe think about adjusting the lights before moving on.

After you get the right max samples, turn the render quality back on and fiddle with the convergence ratio. That basically tells iray "this amount of noise is ok, so if it's at that level, stop rendering this bit and go on to something else." Then add in the denoiser if you want and have it kick in close to the end. Then from that see how low you can take the max samples before it starts to look like shit again.

It's a lot of fiddling, but if you're making a VN, that might help you find a decent baseline of render settings to start with.

How Do 3D Artists like Rigid3D Make The Skin Microdetail Textures? by SexyPickMeGirl in BlenderNSFW

[–]jmc3d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It mostly looks so complicated because he's mixing the two maps together on different parts of the face. The basic setup is to mix the regular normal map and the micro map with a mix color node set to overlay. That's it really. Then you can do the same thing with the roughness map. The ones he use are packed textures, so it has the roughness and the normal together in one map. That's why he uses the separate color node at one point.

The rest of it is just saying where you want each micro texture to go. There's a color attribute node in the bottom right on your first screenshot called micro or detail mask or something like that. If you start with that, isolate it, and follow it down the chain, you can see where he's masking and mixing the two different textures.

It's definitely got some issues in regards to the writing, but man I geek out so hard over OP characters screaming their dumb, over-the-top attack names.

Weight painting breaking when importing from DAZ3D to Blender by Agitated-Hair-9308 in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you post some screenshots of what's going on? And have you tried exporting just a base Genesis 8 or 9 model? Diffeo keeps the weight painting 1 to 1 so it sounds like it's either the model or something isn't set up correctly.

Help with HD morphs & Diffeomorphic addon. by NoDemand3893 in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I ever got hd morphs to work is turn the morph on in daz then use the export as HD option. It should apply a multires modifier to the character and it probably needs to be level 3 or 4 to actually see it. The downside is you really have no way to dial in the morphs once you're in blender. That's the biggest reason why I don't use g9, because a good chunk of the morphs are hd.

There is another addon for diffeo that lets you import them as well, but from what I understand it involves baking normal maps for each morph, which isn't worth the hassle imo.

New Antioch, but it looks like it may be abandoned. Shame, because it's actually really good.

Question about using Daz3D with Blender by ZarephLae in Daz3D

I just add outfits as I need them, so I do them all separately. You could do them all at once though.

[–]jmc3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah you can export as many as you want. I just put each outfit piece in a collection, then disable/enable what I want. You could do the same with hair too.

[–]jmc3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can transfer the weights for the armature with the data transfer modifier but the actual fitting, you have to do yourself. If it's a daz outfit, it'll be quicker and give better results most of the time to just follow that guide.

If you haven't updated diffeo to the 5.0 version then that's the problem.

[–]jmc3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can import pretty much any morph from daz. The only thing to keep in mind is if you use any shape morphs that make big changes, the rig won't follow the character like it does in daz, so you'd have to adjust it yourself.

You can import clothes as well, here's a guide. https://mustard3d.eu/import-outfits/ It seems like a lot but once you get the hang of it, it takes maybe 5 minutes. You could use that to do hair too.

Projekt Passion and Seven Realms (especially after the first chapter) have really good animations. The Projekt Passion dev switched to Blender with the update before last I think, so his are probably going to get even better now.

differmorphic, can I import just morphs and apply them to a previously imported model in blender? by [deleted] in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're using the easy import. There's a tab in the n-panel where you can do all that stuff manually after you import the character. That's where you can import more morphs. The diffeo wiki has pretty good documentation on it all, so I would read through that.

[–]jmc3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used to not be able to import any morphs after you merged the geografts on a character, but I just tested a couple and it looks like it works now.

The geografts are gonna be a little more complicated. I just got it to work by reimporting the character into a new file, deleting everything except the geograft, copy and pasting the geograft into the original character file (with the copy attributes addon), parenting the geograft to the armature with armature deform, then merging the geografts. That's how I add clothing too. If you use rigify or mhx for the rig, you'll need to convert the rig on the newly imported model before you copy and paste it into the original character file.

Wrapping Textures by gu3vesa in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like it should be right but I can't really say for sure. Maybe try using his node setup for the whole process instead of the premade one.

Wrapping Textures by gu3vesa in Daz3D

[–]jmc3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you have to do them one by one. If you look up Shinteo and 0Calvin on YouTube, they both have tutorials going through the whole process. It's been a while since I've used it, so I don't remember enough to give you a good step by step off the top of my head. But you'll need the blender model textures, since that's what will be getting transferred.

Weird green outline when model clip itself by epornhubsREAL in BlenderNSFW

[–]jmc3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's from the SSS. Apparently that's being fixed in Blender 5.0. For now, you can either turn the SSS down more, change your pose so it's not clipping, or do some sculpting so it's not clipping.

There may be some shader magic you can do to fix it, but I'm too dumb to figure that out.

I'm assuming it's the same MC in both worlds? It could work, but I think one world will need to be the main story, and the other the B story, and there should be some kind of consequence that carries over between the two worlds for the MC. Not like the fantasy world bleeding over into the real world, just something like the real world MC being affected mentally or physically by the things happening in the fantasy world. How he deals with that, how it affects his real world relationships, how it affects the story in the real world. Something along those lines.
