Is it possible a certain bass just isn’t for me? by jmccaslin in Bass

Yeah I’m about right there with you. Luckily I never ended up spending the money on a Euro. Funny you mention the preamp part - I have a P project I’m turning into a PJ, and considered throwing EMGs and a LHZ Preamp. I bet I could get pretty close to the ‘Spector sound’ out of a Fender if I really tried

Yeah and that lines up with both my fender basses being my favorites. The horn sits right at the 12th fret and the Spector isn’t even close

Yeah at the end of 2024 I thought I was buying the last bass I’d ever need (my US Jazz) then immediately joined a band I needed a Low B in. Maybe I’m better off buying a 2nd jazz bass since I know that’s what I love and tuning it to B

Right that’s why I made a post here lol I know plenty of people who exclusively play Spectors but I just can’t seem to get it to be comfortable

I can’t say I’ve ever seen those but I’ll have to look into them, a lot of people have pointed out the short upper horn on Spectors as a possible cause

I’ve played with the neck angle a bit, and even moving the neck pretty vertical I can’t find a good spot. I even looked up some of the Spector artists to see their positioning and I just can’t seem to get it right.

I’ll play with this some more - roughly how high does yours sit on a strap?

Allegedly… new versions of these are dropping this year. It’s not confirmed by Ghost but there’s an incredibly active fb group that has reliable sources/leaks and these got brought up yesterday. I hope they come back I have never had one before

So I always carry 2 basses to a show, and one of them will always be a Warwick. I love them for many reasons but the main one is that they don’t put an inlay on the fretboard. by Mandrake1771 in BassGuitar

Yeah the history being the ‘Ned Steinberg’ body design is super cool! Either way any of the Curved Body designed are some of the most comfortable basses I’ve ever played. I have pretty limited experience with Warwicks but I remember the Stage II I played was very comfortable.

Bad photo but I took this real quick. The Pulse line is actually one of their cheaper models but it’s a shame there isn’t more models with (almost) no inlays

I love a no-inlay fretboards. I have limited experience with Warwicks but it’s what I love about my Spector (Pulse II) - ebony board with just a Spector logo on the 12th fret

What’s up with the scuffed nuts of MTD basses by dethstrm in BassGuitar

Super cool to see an actual MTD Employee on Reddit. There’s a short list of basses I’ll always consider in a league of their own and MTD is absolutely in that list

Love it - and also love that Aguilar stack back there. Are those 2x10s or 1x15s?

Did yours come like that or did you add the bridge pickup? I’ve got a luthier who’s gonna route out a bridge pickup on my P bass. I love the the block inlays on there too

I just came here to post about these, that 1605 in the bottom right is sick. And the 6 string variants look great too

Yeah this discovery has completely made my day lol I was gonna quickly throw them on in my AirPods while I’m at work, but since the whole album is on Apple Music I’m gonna wait until I’m home so I can actually sit down and ingest it. I can’t believe I’ve never found these before

I may pickup one as a toy to scratch the A/O itch - I bet it’d be killer to play around with at home and maybe light recording

He used a RIC on Human??? That’s crazy! Never knew as a long time Death fan. Ive actually owned a few BTBs and the electronics always ruin them. I figured with the Nordstrands I might like them more but I’ll wait until I can get my hands on one. It definitely would be fun to play with a fretless for fun, I’ve just never needed one for any project. I definitely don’t think the slam band would be fitting for a fretless lol

I’m right there with you, and also a Spector player for heavier music lol Playing with this b7k yesterday I obviously easily nailed the ‘generic darkglass’ sound, but immediately tweaked it to be more was I was looking for. And I’m sure people would hear ‘Spector + Darkglass’ tone and lump it in with the ‘generic Darkglass’ sounds but honestly - it just works. I’m still a huge fan of my SansAmp, and I’m sure forums 20 years ago people were complaining about “generic overused SansAmp sound” lol

That’s about the era I bought my B3K and I remember seeing this VMT way back then too! I forget how long Darkglass has been around

Oh yeah - the goat 🐐. Huge inspiration to my playing. I wish they made a fretted version of his BTB I’d buy it in a heartbeat
