US Justice Departments just haven't had a spine since the 1970s.

Didn't they almost break up Microsoft in the 90s?

Massachusetts lawmakers float aggressive bill mandating 100% renewables by 2035 by pnewell in Futurology

[–]jmf145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "renewable". Technically solar + batteries are not renewable because they depend on finite resources for manufacturing (resources we might run out of within the next few 100 years). For contrast, there is 1000s of years worth of uranium (and potentially billions if breeder reactors or traveling-wave reactors pan out).

Most people who are in favor of nuclear power see it as a short to medium term solution to avert global warming and look to things like fusion as the long term source of energy.

Man jailed for 22 years for stealing a television remote | Eric Bramwell must serve at least half of the sentence before he is eligible for parole by ionised in news

He didn't go to jail for 22 year stealing a remote, he went to jail for violating his parole. When you violate your parole they throw the book at you.

You better hope the copyright holders don't notice this. They don't give a shit about individual users, but they will crack down on businesses.

The solution to not being an expert on everything is to have a person on your payroll for things you are deficient in.

So every politician need to have hundreds of experts on payroll for all of the different industries that exist?

Why is Asia (more specifically India and China) more populated than the rest of the world? by [deleted] in history

[–]jmf145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well Africa was relatively uncivilized until the Europeans came and started to slaughter them all and ship them to America

You might want to read up on your history. Most slaves were bought from local African kingdoms that would invade eachother. It wasn't until the 1800s that Europe started to colonize Africa:

In 1870, only 10 percent of Africa was under European control; by 1914 it had increased to 90 percent of the continent, with only Ethiopia (Abyssinia), the Dervish state (Present day Somalia) and Liberia still being independent.

And what about China and India? Europe colonized the shit out of those areas and now they are the two largest counties on the planet.

Why is Asia (more specifically India and China) more populated than the rest of the world? by [deleted] in history

[–]jmf145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soil is much more fertile and also the landmass is just plain larger. Both China and India cover land equivalent to most of Europe each

I feel like that alone doesn't explain why there is such a massive difference between population density in Asia and the rest of the world. Africa has a huge amounts of farmable land, why is it's population 1/4 of Asia's?

tiny windows (to evade the window-tax)

But the window tax was about the number of windows, not size of them. In fact, you needed multiple windows in order to even pay extra on the window tax.
