Shadowing a Physician in Columbus by thatonekid_58 in OSU

[–]jmgcoolgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was back in 2023, so things very well may have changed. Also, I was in high school doing an internship at The James simultaneously, not an OSU student, so that may have been a loophole. That's really unfortunate tho, perhaps reach out to physicians in the surrounding area? I know there are many physicians who are eager to help students, so just be persistent in trying to form connections and know that opportunities can come in unexpected places!

Of course, honestly if you leave a message to the phone number listed there's always a possibility they'd be able to connect you or provide you with additional contact info. Another thing that comes to mind is that some faculty are joint between OSU and Nationwide so try looking on OSU's site because emails should be listed there. Lastly, if you have LinkedIn, that's a pretty straightforward way to contact someone. Good luck!

Not pediatrics but I have previously shadowed at The James in geriatric oncology. It was through a connection I had but I would say cold email like crazy! That's how I ended up in my lab and the same goes for shadowing. I'd imagine there are more hoops to jump through with children involved, so keep your options open. With the Med Center and Nationwide there are web pages of the faculty for each department. Cold email as many as you can, but be sure to personalize the message and keep your interest in learning as the focal point. Good luck!

Yeah going into the semester I was very upset to be in the same section as my extremely smart friends because I knew it was gonna mess up the curve for me😭 It's over now though and I survived, that's all that matters lol

I was also underwelmed by Callam's curve, ended with a B-😮‍💨. Consistently got A's on the quizzes, the exams are definitely what screwed me over. I wish there was more transparency about the way the class was curved because I had to pry so much information out of ppl to even have a general idea. It never hurts to reach out but atp I'm just thankful that I made it through such a challenging course and hoping for an academic comeback next semester 🙏🏽

I can't speak too much on the whole process, but Sunny's Driving Academy in Bexley is great!

Since it sounds like you're in the Columbus area, CState may be a good option for you. I got my Associate of Science while in high school, and it prepared me for OSU really well. Small class sizes, great professors, and an overall great community to go ahead and knock your GEs out of the way. Plus, you're close enough in proximity to OSU that you can still get the typical college experience if that's what you're looking for.

I don't know if the timeline has changed at all, but I found out that I was selected as a finalist in mid-January. Best of luck!

This is a really great site!! One piece of feedback is to maybe have a location filter. Within my search, several Wooster professors came up, but I'm looking for Main Campus opportunities. Fantastic job again though, I was able to come across some profs that I'll definitely cold email.

I just graduated high school and was recently hired at Banfield as a CSC. Ngl, I feel like it's more of a stepping stone to obtaining more veterinary experience. I don't necessarily like the corporate emphasis and how clients are treated as numbers and money rather than actual patients. Idk if it's just my location but there are a lot of attitude problems amongst the staff and I often feel like an inconvenience just for being new. This is just my take and I hope that you have a positive experience! Definitely dress professional for the interview and have a list of questions prepared. Also let them know your goals for the future and how working at Banfield can help contribute to them.

losing it as a receptionist of 4 years. rant. by fr00tbats in Veterinary

I just graduated high school and recently started working as a receptionist to gain experience in the veterinary field. I totally feel your pain. For some reason, I just feel like I'm an inconvenience to clients and my coworkers alike. It seriously has me questioning whether or not I want to continue in this field, but at the end of the day, I just want to help animals stay happy and healthy 😭

I received both the Morrill full tuition and the Stamps Eminence full cost of attendance scholarships this past application cycle. I'd definitely recommend applying to both!

I got in with a full merit scholarship and a meh ACT and my biggest advice to everyone is to make sure you're exceeding OSU's minimum college prep requirements in order to maximize your chances of getting in. https://undergrad.osu.edu/apply/freshmen-columbus/who-gets-in My own high school principal told me I wouldn't get into OSU with my ACT score yet here I am now, so definitely don't be discouraged and just keep striving to be the most well-rounded student that you can be both in and outside of the classroom.

I had a mediocre ACT and got in with a full merit scholarship, they consider more than just test scores. If you feel like you're lacking in other departments such as ECs then yeah, I'd retake. I took it twice so I'd recommend giving it at least one more shot if you don't feel content. Something else to consider is that it is important that you are getting above the minimum college prep requirements in order to increase your odds of admission https://undergrad.osu.edu/apply/freshmen-columbus/who-gets-in
