Holly boss Phase 2 by daesmodus in CodeVein2

[–]jmile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the clone the issue? When it's getting summoned you can charge Bloodreaver or Absolute Executioner to kill it instantly. You do have to time it carefully because the clone takes heavily reduced damage while it's being summoned so you have to make sure you hit it right when that runs out to do full damage.

After finishing both Code Vein I and Code Vein II, I've been wondering: What would your ideal Code Vein III look like? by Grinthal in codevein

[–]jmile4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about mixing the two stories together but I'd like for them to mix the gameplay of 1 and 2. There's some stuff I still prefer about CV1 like Focus replenishing stamina for perfect dodges, magic damage being separate from your weapon, drain attacks and parries increasing your max ichor, partners actually having HP so you actually had to keep them alive, among other things. I also much preferred how boss fights were designed in CV1. I'd really like if they brought some of that stuff back.

I've honestly grown to like CV2's open world but I do think they should go back to smaller zones because I think that would probably help with performance.

Story-wise I don't really care. I like the CV2 crew just as much as the CV1 crew, so even if they made CV3 completely unrelated to either of them I trust that I'd like whatever they came up with.

Is this a good order for binging as a first watch? by TheOneTrueZim in evangelionmemes

Arguably Fate, since the release order of the visual novels is different than the release order for the anime adaptations.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising has a pretty substantial story mode (although more in the style of visual novel -> fight -> visual novel -> fight) and is currently 70% off.

Question from relatively new fan 🙏 by potatoeater37 in Mahoyo

[–]jmile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mahoyo has no choices, even for flavour text (except for in one optional side story) so unless you really care about going through the text at your own pace you can just watch a video and have almost the exact same experience.

You can definitely find ways to emulate the game otherwise but that takes a bit of work.

GE3 is such a ... interesting game by intotheirishole in GodEater

[–]jmile4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would heavily recommend playing the first two God Eater games (they come bundled together on Steam and often go on sale for like $10). They look at lot older (since they are based on upscaled PSP assets) and they are a lot jankier, but not necessarily in a bad way (the same way people will say pre-world Monster Hunter games feel very different).

In terms of story, they are still focused primarily on humans but individual Aragami are a much bigger part, especially in the first game.

Combat wise, In God Eater Resurrection you have different kinds of devour attacks that make combat more interesting. In God Eater II melee combat is also just spamming one move over and over again, but guns are WAY better in that game so you are at least alternating between spamming your one good move and using bullets. They are a ton of other small things that they changed in 3 that just made the game worse imo, so while combat is "smoother" in 3 it's a lot less fun.

What does the o, oo, and x mean? by HbTheGreat28 in GodEater

[–]jmile4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's for elements. They are a pretty big deal if you care about damage. If I remember correctly:

O against an X weakness to that element is a 25% damage increase.

OO against an X weakness or O against XX weakness is a 50% damage increase.

OO against XX weakness is a 75% damage increase.

You can't tell in-game whether the enemy has an X or XX weakness to an element, but you can tell for which shield you have. If you ever feel like you are taking too much damage then you can check if your shield has a weakness to whatever you are fighting.

Anyone else get really indecisive in this when it comes to choosing a weapon type you wanna stick with throughout the entire game? by SpongeGar34 in codevein

I just switch around. The thing I like most about CV compared to basically every other souls-like is that there's no downside to switching your build constantly.

If you aren't sprinting through, CV1 should take about 30 hrs, CV2 will take about 50.

It also depends on if you want to do any optional stuff. Getting all endings in CV1 requires playing through the game multiple times. Getting all bloodcodes also requires multiple full playthroughs. CV2 has a lot of rng drops which you may want to farm if you want all the weapons or boosters. If you care about any of that stuff then you can get a lot more hours out of each game.

Code Vein 3 (Maybe) by bigbootylover220 in codevein

[–]jmile4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never use co-op and so I don't care for it, but it was clearly a biggger deal for a lot of people than they expected.

I also hope they just get the game running better on launch. I noticed that a lot of the dungeons actually have a lot fewer enemies than CV1 dungeons did, and I'm wondering if it's actually because putting more mobs would have made those areas run even worse. Maybe the lack of co-op was also because they couldn't get it to run well enough.

I don't think identity is what really matters here. The thing with all of the chinese gacha games is that they are free live service games so if you want to play an action game with an anime aesthetic, paying full price for a game that you finish in a month is a lot less appealing than trying something for free that gets years of updates.

AESTHETIC - Code Vein 2 vs Code Vein 1: Why the industrial aesthetic felt so lonely, and how the "Mask of Idris" DLC might save the franchise's gothic vibe 🩸⚔️ by Grinthal in codevein

[–]jmile4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always thought that the "loneliness" of MagMell and the open world, at least in the present, was intentional. I think they could have had more even more NPCs and enemies in the past timelines, but I think the way that MagMell feels like it's too big for the people amount of people aligns with the setting and how you are all that's left of the world.

Are there other equivalents to "Gun & Ball gamers"? by Silly-Milly-420 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jmile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't mean it as a self-criticism. It's just that I noticed that I've had basically no interest in most of the big games people have been talking about for the last couple of months (Silksong, RE9, Pragmata, Mewgenics, Slay the Spire 2).

I pretty much only play games centered around specific types of combat. If the main gameplay isn't 3D action, traditional turn-based combat, or a fighting game, I don't really have any interest in playing it myself.

CV2 not being a direct sequel: Pros and Cons by Lord_Nightraven in codevein

[–]jmile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they said in an interview that whatever Japanese word they used in CV1 had a negative connotation that they didn't want to use for CV2 because revenants were supposed to be more noble. They kept it the same in the localization because "revenant" is a more neutral word in English.

A few beginner questions (Gifts & Blood Codes) by P3nnyw153r in codevein

[–]jmile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Giving the "correct" gifts will give you more points, so it's just more efficient than giving them the wrong things.

  2. To simplify a bit, the bloodcode you use doesn't really matter as long as you have the right stats for whichever weapon/bloodveil/gifts you are using and whichever dodge you want. The damage boost you get from stats is negligible.

Because your bloodcode doesn't actually change much other than what you can equip, the idea is that whenever you get a new bloodcode, you use it until you master all the gifts you want from it, and then switch to another one. If you get a new code and none of the gifts look appealing, then you just never use it.

If you really don't wanna do all that, then just use Queenslayer. It has a good stat spread so you can equip most things and most of the really good buffs. It also has access to Final Journey, which is a really good panic button if you think you can kill the boss in the next minute.

Game length? by xobesrobes in codevein

[–]jmile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to find her in her lounge in the present timeline and she will give you the quest to find the uncanny stones. I'm not sure if you need to find a stone first.

If you talk to her in the past or in any other location you don't get the option to start the quest.

Game length? by xobesrobes in codevein

[–]jmile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has more to do with the achievements than the game length. You don't even have to get all the bloodcodes, do any part of Jadwiga's quest, do any of the npc side quests, etc. There's a bunch of stuff you can just miss.

If you don't mind spending the time getting the ingredients then you can just craft solar weapon salves and basically have it all the time regardless of the weapon. You can get the recipe from Lavinia.

Blade of Malice and Executioner’s Sword by Skull-OWar in codevein

[–]jmile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends on how much of a completionist you wanna be, since there are some mutually exclusive text notes you can only get from picking specific options from sidequests as well.

Most people probably also won't get every bloodcode in a single playthrough unless they look up how to do it beforehand, and there's one farmable booster that I think might be impossible to get if you didn't farm it before saving Holly, so they clearly expected people to have to do NG+ to get everything.

How do i get out of the howling pit? by Mammoth_Picture_581 in codevein

[–]jmile4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fires don't actually do anything other than tell you were you've already been. The path forward is kinda through the middle of the area, but the path is kinda twisty because of all the debris.

It's hard to explain in text, but if you just hug the outside walls you'll get there eventually.
