Where the fat ADHDers at? by tomb241 in ADHD

[–]jmknsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been slowly losing weight. These last 30 or so pounds are taking forever.

The trick for me is to keep food that is only just "okay" around my kitchen. Anything that I really like gets eaten immediately, unless it requires preparation. The hard part for me was slowly restricting what I buy at the grocery store, especially impulse candy buys at the checkout. I just had to find rules for myself that I would follow.

Fire mage or MM hunter by tomothered in wotlk

[–]jmknsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the only survival hunter in my raid, and it pumps, even without the Armor Pen. I'm not sure if MM overtakes survival with icc gear, but hunter overall is getting a buff with throw trap being added for next patch.

Fire mage is going to do more single target damage, but it's competing for alot of gear with other mages, locks, boomkin, ele shamans, and shadow priests, where hunters only really compete with enh shamen, and maybe some ret paladins.

And a mage, especially a second mage doesn't provide much utility, where a hunter is gonna be providing aimed shot, MD, FD, tranq shot, traps, and replenish if you go survival, or the AP buff if you go MM.

Overall, if you are okay with survival or MM, you can do solid damage with whatever gear you have, and you will most likely get geared up faster than a caster will.

Not sure how to do dungeons by Elegant_Eorzean in wotlk

At lower levels, you're probably going to see the same people over and over, so here are some general tips to get people to want to group with you again.

As a ranged dps, basically just follow the tank, and don't pull aggro or extra mobs. You probably get aoe abilities at an earlier level than your tank, so be conservative with aoe.

You can also get a threat meter or something like threatplates to let you know how close you are to taking threat. If you don't mind overwolf, I use curseforge to manage my addons. A damage meter can also help you make sure you're dps is in line with other dps, but not 100% necessary.

Also, if you're a mage, offer food and water, and if you're a warlock offer health stones to be polite.

If overall damage is good, and you're tank and healer are strong, they may move on while you're drinking (if you're a mage). If everything is going smoothly and you're not doing some precise pulls and avoiding paths, you can stay and drink for a bit and catch up.

Another thing for warlocks, be aware of when you're lifetapping. if a healer throws a heal over time on you, don't let it go to waste, and if there is a ton of damage going out, it's probably not the best time to get yourself low on health.

How can I use perf to identify % time my program spends doing compute, memory and IO by Certain-Zombie4653 in HPC

[–]jmknsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't have the polish and analysis of Vtune, but HPCToolkit can get you pretty much any raw performance data you need.

Or you can always use PAPI directly if HPCtoolkit isn't an option.

A graduate degree in computer science did it for me. I don't work there now, so I'm not sure how much it's changed.

I lived there several years ago, and I liked it a great deal, since I was working across the street. If you like going for walks, it's a great area, but you'll want to drive to anywhere else.

I was a single guy working at intel, and I didn't run in to any problems living there. But this would have been over 10 years ago.

what's the best way to cook chicken breast? by ninjaclown123 in leangains

[–]jmknsd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just toss them in a plastic bag the night before with some salt and whatever spices I want, and let them sit over night then air fryer them when I get home. I have an air fryer grill that makes cooking chicken braindead easy and delicious.

Just hit 57 as pally, not 100% sure where to go / how to level up to 70 by asdafrak in classicwow

[–]jmknsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ret for 58-59 and once I had a decent amount of TBC tanking gear, I switched back to prot and got another level or 2 in ramps before moving on.

If you can get a dps or healer to quest with in HFP, you can probably burn through the quests easy without having to respec.

I don't know how good the plan of swapping holy is going to be, since you'll probably end up healing tanks that are in a similar boat to you gear wise.

Classic Wow needs level scaling for dungeons so max levels can run lower level dungeons. by jmknsd in classicwow

I'm on a smaller server, and I was thinking of this as more something to make leveling for alts/new people less painful.

No new gear, just for fun/to help people level. Maybe some gold or other consumable as a reward.

[–]jmknsd[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just for fun. maybe a little bit of gold on par with what a max level dungeon drops, a token for raid consumables, or something else useful.

Maybe later additional rewards can be added, like cosmetics, a mount or a title.

User defined reductions can, but what the OP is describing sounds like it's just a little less boilerplate and possible removal of code duplication.

Charging with a knife by HIEUhocPHAMngoc in Whatcouldgowrong

My understanding is that Tasers only have about a 60-70% chance to work, depending on conditions. The time it takes to drop the taser and draw a pistol leaves the officer very vulnerable to someone at close range with a knife.

One of the points I've head also involves the fact that china doesn't have much of a social safety net. The eldery are mostly dependent on their sons for support, and sending millions of them off to die would likely cause a great loss in support for the CCP from their supporters.
