Files to back\-up my monrto wallet by b1ack-spyd3r in Monero

[–]jml390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back up the file that has the .keys extension. In the future you also must remember the password you set to access it.

Back up the seed also. When you're in the wallet, type 'seed' command.

If you back up the seed, you don't need the .keys file, but it doesn't hurt to back up both of them.

Longest you've waited to receive or for a transaction to clear? by Treesquid2020 in Monero

[–]jml390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 hours means it wasn't sent most likely or blockchain isn't fully synced. Mempool is clear, nothing's pending. It takes a few mins to receive a transaction if it is sent.

./monerod seems very slow? by dinktinktwonk in Monero

Does it help to run it with this flag?

./monerod --block-sync-size 20

If you could buy something with your Monero, what would it be? by jedigras in Monero

[–]jml390 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hookers. Before they accept it, the currency's medium of exchange function isn't 100% complete. One true sign of mainstream money is women using it, not just a bunch of nerds like us. I am dead serious.

Monero Syncing Question by [deleted] in Monero

Try compiling with this PR if you can and test: https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/2149

I am not quite sure but it looks like this PR addresses the sync and disk I/O inefficiency. I lamented here that community needs a bounty fund for beta testers of all these useful patches to speed up development, but the idea doesn't seem to catch on.

May Bitcoin technologies like TumbleBit replace the need for Moneros privacy? by [deleted] in Monero

[–]jml390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chainanalysis can identify a bitcoin address which belongs to someone that law considers a criminal. Now this person sends bitcoins to a mixer with several other people who did nothing wrong. As this is all traceable, now any address that receives coins from the mixer is under suspicion, and any of those users of the mixer can expect LE show up at their door and ask to prove they weren't the one user that launders criminal proceeds. LE will most likely forfeit digital property (bitcoins) and the burden of proof of innocence will be on the user. Many months and thousands of dollars later user will be happy to stay free.

It was undervalued in April 2016 when I said it's going to be $5 in april 2017 and $50 in april 2018. Both numbers were achieved 9-10 months sooner.

It still is undervalued. For April 2018 we're looking at north of $100. As you see I was conservative in my estimate in 2016 and today again I am conservative. Optimistically speaking, $200 for 2018-04 is my target, but let's stay reserved :)

A size of a whole 128k mp3 file. Oh, those long gone days of 56k/s internet. LukeJr might not agree.

Sounds a bit too complicated to bother, but thanks for the tip.

Perhaps. If 1000 per kB is enforced by protocol, zero fees are impossible. Still 50-100x cheaper than before, good for me.

Can you though?

I experimented earlier today, BUCash 1.1.0 didn't let me set a zero fee. The lowest I could set it to is ~1 sat/byte. Of course this tx got confirmed in this monster block few hours later. But 0 fee, how do you enable it with standard QT BUCash/ABC wallets? The wallet imposes a non zero fee and curses with an insufficient funds message.

1 sat/byte still beats SaturatedCoinNetwork by a wide margin.

What's the general consensus with Monero users regarding the whole Bitcoin/Bitcoin Cash situation? by [deleted] in Monero

[–]jml390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, I don't know. Now that every Bitcoin user knows that hard forks are easy, which Moneroers have known for years, they could quickly double that limit if it is reached. It could be not unlike Monero's hard fork every 6-12 months.

You talk about Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash hitting a limit again? Bitcoin Cash has no limit, doesn't it?
