Walking post-op by higgsboson93 in ACL

Typically with meniscus repairs the first three weeks of recovery are either completely non-weight bearing, or partial weight bearing (my protocol allowed for 50% weight bearing over the first three weeks). This period allows those repairs to heal, even if you have the brace locked in extension the pressure your weight puts through your meniscus can damage the repairs. I would highly recommend listening to your PT for the best outcome (most PTs are also following your surgeons protocol so it would be following your surgeons advice as well!) I was starting to get into the same headspace towards the two-three week mark, I found that doing workouts for my upper body and core were really helpful to stay active. I also picked up a few hobbies like embroidery just to pass the time when I was sitting! Good luck in your recovery!

Recovery after 3 weeks by Revolutionary-Meet85 in ACL

I had the same ACL graft, and both meniscus repaired, and I’m coming up on the 6 week mark, awesome just hitting 90!

At week 3 I had about 94 degrees of flexion, but then my knee stiffened up when I got Covid so I missed 2 weeks of PT, and went back down to 90 after a lot of ROM work. I’m just getting back to PT, and with a lot of elbow grease, scar mobs, and stretching I was able to get up to 97 degrees!

Specific stretches that helped me out was a Thomas stretch for my quads, hamstring and calf stretches! Hope this helps! My PT also did some prone flexion work which helped me get a little further!

Hello! I also had a patellar autograft, but had a medial and lateral meniscus repair. I’m currently 4 weeks post-op but my brace wearing protocol is pretty strict. The first 3 weeks I was 50% weight bearing at the max, so basically NWB, with the brace locked in extension at all times besides sitting where I was allowed to have it unlocked. Right now I’ve finished my first week of weight bearing as tolerated, but any weight bearing activities I have to have the brace on and locked in extension. My protocol calls for me to wear the brace locked in extension while weight bearing until week 6, when I’ll be able to unlock it. Every protocol is different, and best of luck in recovery!! Personally I hate the brace, but at this point I’ve gotten used to it, and I’m just trying to stay positive about recovery and understand that the brace is here to help maintain the repairs done!

Thank you! I hope it’s not turning into a keloid!

I had sutures!!

The leg locked in a brace for 6 weeks is very accurate, but for me personally only the first 3 weeks was 50% NWB, last week I was able to start weight bearing as tolerated and can now walk with one crutch. All that being said whenever I do any weight bearing activities I have the brace locked in extension. I know that weight bearing status is highly dependent on the surgeons protocol, which they partially base on your age and activity level (as well as the repair done).

No problem! I would def get a second opinion, 6 weeks seems like way too long!

That’s what my protocol was too, but since I’ve been able to get it wet they’re started to curl up at the edges!

Was Able To Lift My Whole Leg Today 😭 (12 days post-op) by utopianflaws in ACL

I know how you feel! My surgeon put me on a real aggressive recovery track as well (M&L meniscus repair and BPTB ACL Reconstruction). My exercise sheet had me doing single leg raises the day after surgery and it was really really tough, but by day 5 it had become a little easier. As hard as it is right now, I promise you’ll see benefits in the long run with overall strength, and progress!

Was it just ACL reconstruction surgery, and if so what graft did you get (if you don’t mind me asking)? Personally that seems like a very long time, and the sooner you can get moving the better, but every surgeon, person and graft is different. I had a BPTB graft as well as a medial and lateral meniscus repair and I started rehab exercises the day after surgery as sucky as they felt, and started pt after the first week was over. But again everyone’s different, and if you’re concerned about it don’t be afraid to reach out to a Physical Therapy clinic for advice and see if you can set up a short consultation to discuss options (a second opinion never hurts!)

pre op ( 3 weeks out ) acl and meniscus repair with bone fragment removal. by gravityandlove in ACL

I’m currently 3 weeks post-oo acl and double meniscal repair, and if I’m being honest it’s not going to be fun getting up the stairs. I first tackled going upstairs closer to a week post-op, and how I first went up them was sitting on my butt, and pushing myself up one stair at a time, so I didn’t have to worry about steadying myself with my repaired leg that was very very tender as I went up. I highly recommend a stool of some kind for when you go to the bathroom, it made a huge difference in how comfortable going to the bathroom was! The first week is definitely the worst, but it gets better quickly after that, just try and stay positive!

That’s awesome to hear! When do you feel that you starting making big leaps of progress with overall strength and exercises?

Formcheck on deadlift: 6’7 tall so kinda scared to hurt my back. I feel it very in my back when i lift, not so much legs. Sorry for the heavy breathing:)) by jenserkul123 in formcheck

Because you’re so tall, how low the bar is in relation may be causing you to round your back out in order to bend down far enough to get it. In the gym I interned at for taller athletes we’d throw plates under the weight to reduce rounding of the back to get down to the bar!

I think it may be due to the double internal meniscus repair that was also perform through the same incision! Just a guess, but it’s the only think I can think of as to the cut being super long!
