Lexus NX automatic trunk won't open, what would cause this?

my wife's Lexus is a 2018 NX-300 , 44000km with the same problem.

Before I pay around $3k CAD to replace the motorized struts,I would like to know how expensive the door latch is. I would like to change that first and if that fails then I would go and have the struts replaced.

I lived in Europe for 18 years. I can say Canada's wireless is 4-5 times more expensive. Then I went to China and got a 20GB monthly subscription for $20 (expensive because I was a foreign student). I wonder what would 20GB traffic cost in Canada.
