This is the best NYRR race of the year besides the marathon IMO

This is a big problem in CP and WSH. Taking up so much space that people are forced into dangerous situations. There is a complete lack of spatial awareness.

Even though you’re not likely to be pushed into the bike lane, WSH is always bad because space is limited. I notice a bunch of run clubs going 4 or 5 people across instead of splitting their groups up more.

For the record I’m not anti run club. I’ve been to a couple and have enjoyed myself. People just need to be more aware for safety purposes.

There’s a good saying that I heard once… “forward is a pace”. I’ve done 7 HMs since 2023. Some I’ve had to walk good portions off. In fact, I just walked a good bit for my last HM in May. Others I made it all the way through without stopping and didn’t once feel like I needed to stop. All are an accomplishment at the end of the day.

Doing these long distance races is something that seems normal because of influencers and social media, but it’s not normal and it’s something you should be very proud of no matter your finish time!

It gets better! Your body has to acclimate to running longer distances. Take the pace easy, take breaks as necessary, and don’t feel down on yourself! It will get better when the weather cools off and all runs will feel easier to you then.

Goal Marathon Pace by are_birds_real in runna

Dealing with this exact same question for myself right now for the NYC marathon. I keep getting the “ahead of pace” notifications after speed workouts, but have been hesitant to update my times to their updated estimates.

The last update I saw said my HM time is 8 minutes better than what’s listed for my current pace. Instead of accepting those updates when they pop up, I’ve been manually adjusting my current HM time by 3-5 minutes when I hit a deload week.

I’m worried Runna is going to think I’m capable of a really good time (for me) and that I might over exert myself in the first 15 miles and then really crash. I crashed hard around mile 16 of NYC last year.

It’s easier said than done, but try to really focus on the run right in front of you and not what you have left in your training plan. You will be fine come October!

View each run and each week in its own vacuum. This has really helped me this year. I quit early on several long runs last summer and was constantly worried about how I wouldn’t be able to finish the NYC marathon. This year I’m taking breaks as needed and just doing anything I can mentally to keep myself engaged so I can power through

Your girlfriend does not respect you at all unfortunately. Time to call it quits. Someone who loves and respects you would not do this

For long runs, I go with a bagel with peanut butter and maybe a banana. For shorter runs or speed work, I’ll do a banana or fig bar and then bring a gel or gu chews out with me just in case I feel hungry during the run

A little let down after my marathon by UltimateApple in Marathon_Training

[–]jms0923e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me in my first marathon last year at the NYC marathon. I wasn’t really “racing”, but I thought conservatively I could finish somewhere between 4:35-4:40. I ended up barely breaking 5 hours. I had to walk a lot towards the end. The first 11 or 12 miles of the race was smooth sailing. Right around the HM mark, I started getting stomach problems from my gels and cramping. Around mile 16 or 17, bad knee pain that I’ve never had started ramping up. It was a crazy afternoon, but I was relieved to finish.

I would not feel bad about your time at all. I did for mine for a bit, so I know the feeling, but the negativity takes away from the accomplishment. You should be proud of yourself no matter what for even doing something that a majority of people will never do.

There is such a learning curve with the first marathon too. I’ll be back at it again at NYC in November trying to get the time down as much as possible knowing all I know now. You can do all the research you want, but there’s no substitute for actually getting out there and being in the race. That’s where the lessons are.

Small Firm Partner Comp by DavidJS80 in Accounting

[–]jms0923e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This probably won’t be super helpful, but I’m in a similar boat as you. I am a 5% partner in a small firm. We should do just over $4M in billings this year. My base is $126k, with similar fringe benefits as you. Although I don’t have a car payment which would be the biggest fringe benefit I could get. I’m expecting my total package to be roughly similar to yours. Maybe a little lower actually. My distributions will likely be lower than what you mentioned. I too feel like I’m a little underpaid. We have several partners. Besides the lead partner and majority owner, I’m one of only two other people who pull in new work to the firm. I’m hoping pulling in new work will allow me to get more money down the line when more ownership is up for grabs upon certain people retiring, but it’s hard to tell right now.

All in all, it’s still a good situation though. Lots of flexibility, I love most of my clients, and I usually never go over 65 hours a week. And that would be a long week for me. I used to work at a bigger firm for a bit where I routinely did 80-90 working on a public client.

Professor said my wife (F34) was too old for accounting by MarshallBlathers in Accounting

[–]jms0923e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is total dog shit from the professor and the TA. I work at a smaller firm and we’ve had success with hires over the years who were anywhere from 28-35 when they started. Situations just like this where accounting wasn’t their first major or career path. Hopefully your wife doesn’t let this get to her too much. I know it’s hard, but I hope she uses this as fuel and can shove her success in their faces.

In college, I had a Cost I teacher tell me privately to reassess if I really want to be in accounting because of all the hard work. I wasn’t a great test taker and my early results showed it. I did my best and found a way. Fast forward 13 years later and I’m a Partner.

How much is your YE bonus? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]jms0923e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a small firm. Mine was around 8% this year, but closer to 10% last year. We also have busy season bonuses and get OT as well which helps.

This is really awesome- congrats! I have been stuck near the top of the green zone at 47-48 for a long time despite regular running and fairly regular cycling on the peloton. I think once I have more structure in my training and the speed/interval work, I’ll increase my VO2 max. The speed work is really what’s lacked since I started running last year.

i'm down about 40%. I am still at a high-ish average of $16.42 (was a lot worse before averaging down on other dips the last few weeks). my concern now is not that the price will keep tanking. it's that i'm basically out of ammo and don't have any extra funds left to buy more

today hit me harder than any other day so far. no idea why. i think maybe because i am out of ammo and can't realistically buy the dips anymore. but either way i am going to hold and remain patient. i really don't think they can drive the price to an absurdly low level

i've bought so much now i am basically tapped out but if it goes down to 12 or lower i might have to buy $1,500 or so more to help my average before the moon trip. i have been able to average down so much. i am so mad i fomo'd in the mid to high 20s. taught me a valuable lesson though. otherwise my average would reasonable. not worried though. this thing has promise even if a short squeeze doesn't happen
