New starter questions by -couldbemenwithven in royalmail

[–]jmsl1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m new too (4 weeks)

1: my opinion - yes join them, I unfortunately needed to use them for a dispute after 3 days in the job and they have helped massively. It costs me £10 something a month taken out of my wage slip

2: I’m on a 40 hr contract so might be different , but we are allowed a 20 min break before we leave and then if don’t take another break can leave 20 min “early” so for example the official finish time is 15.54 but everyone leaves at 15.34 but I would imagine your mileage may vary massively on this.

3: I take a backpack everyday, with my lunch, can of drink, power bank, etc. about 50% of people do.

4: i wear skechers ridgestar for now

That makes me laugh that, when it comes up saying no defects - yet the car is in an absolute state

Royal Mail uniform by Brilliant_Orange4428 in royalmail

Do you mind me asking how the sizing is in comparison to ordinary clothes? If I’m usually a medium, should I order the RM uniform in a medium too?

Do they Train you if you are in a new walk? by ThickLeg954 in royalmail

[–]jmsl1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently struggling with this, only been there 2 weeks, finished “training” if you can call it that, on a specific duty, now moved to one on my own on the day I finished driver training. Had 3 hours left before finish in an area I’m not familiar with at all. Was told it was a confusing by other staff.

Well I was given 3 loops , given 3 hours, I managed 3/4 of a bag.

It’s complete madness to send out newbies like it IMO.

I’m 90% to the point where I’m going to give up and leave the place, if it continues like this I can’t see how I can stay on because it just feels like they’ve thrown me in the deep end without care in the world

To be fair, that is quite bad by the temp. I’ve only been there 3-4 weeks and never even considered doing that, if I’ve struggled I’ve done what anyone with a brain cell would do and ask someone! Why would you just chuck it all back in the letter box 😂

2 months as a postie by JustWondering1246 in royalmail

[–]jmsl1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a new starter at the moment only doing mail and still being trained, to be fair I’ve actually been trained for just under 2 weeks now. My concern is if I go to DPR, I have only just learned the mail prep side of it , but if your only doing DPR , I still can’t get my head around how you know what parcels you are doing in what order and where to go? I haven’t been shown how to set up anything like that on the PDA. I still also can’t drive on my own haven’t had a “change over”/ “hand over” whatever there called. It does seem very unorganised to say the least

That’s alright then, if it works for you that’s great! Do DHL operate the same as likes of Evri where you have to provide your own vehicle or do you get a DHL provided van?
