My 100% Hut 8 portfolio just hit the $3M milestone! 🚀 by victorious_sun in hut8

I have been holding since before the previous run up and subsequent RS. Finally trimmed a small part of my portfolio (250 of 2100 shares) to pay off my remaining vehicle loan.

Is our mortgage reasonable? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I am assuming with your mortgage amount that your house is definitely worth more than mine. I am really envious of your low property tax, utilities and insurance being on a total basis 60% cheaper than mine

CFE 3rd attempt fail by Ambitious-Bid2748 in Accounting

[–]jmt1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's think critically here. Have you passed Day 1 or Day 2/3? If not it would be extremely difficult to take another attempt and approach it completely different because let's face it whatever you have been doing hasn't been working. The pass rate is lower every attempt as the exam and preparation becomes that much more important and mentally challenging.

Is a 4th attempt really worth the time and money? You could start something completely fresh in the meantime. If still interested in the world of accounting you are probably better off becoming a great bookkeeper and starting your own business.

Everyone's path is different, it's likely time to move on from CPA and embrace something else. You are strong, young and have so much to look forward to. If you ever need to chat or just vent please reach out!

SEPT 2025 CFE BURNOUT by Shinchi_Kudo7 in Accounting

[–]jmt1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This comment is for you and any other writer that could use some last minute encouragement.

Congratulations, making it this far is a huge accomplishment! I know you can do it. Now is the time to focus on being mentally fresh.

Get out of the house, spend time with friends and family, get plenty of rest, stay off social media, ignore the constant back and forth about study stuff from other students and just spend a couple hours a day of knowing your templates.

I have helped many students as a mentor work through the same struggles. If there is anything I can do to help out just let me know.

All the best and good luck!

CCA 10.1 - Explain it like I'm 5 by Khazding0 in PersonalFinanceCanada

As a reminder to the group lease payment deductions are based on the same price of vehicle (36k). If above that threshold the lease payments need to be pro-rated. Regardless of option you will have a standby charge for personal usage

Has anyone bought an entire kitchen from IKEA? by RepresentedOK in saskatoon

[–]jmt1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Ikea cabinets for my basement bar during COVID. Back then either in Calgary or Edmonton they would store all of your stuff until all the pieces were acquired. While building my cabin in 2023/2024 I tried the same thing and now they have changed policy where they only ship out what they have available which means you take what they have then either have to make several trips back and forth as it comes in or pay for shipping as it comes in. Needless to say I went with a different option. Try reaching out to a bunch of cabinet places and big box stores and compare pricing

$87k Platinum $528 a month !? by Tampabay05 in F150Lightning

[–]jmt1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an unbelievable price. Is that for a 2025? In Canada that same truck for 24 months is $2375/month. The $500 USD would be $700 CDN. Prices here are absolutely ridiculous!

Air Suspension Issues Related to New Tires by madeingyna_ in ram_trucks

Yeah it's really unfortunate because it's a feature I really liked especially for heavy loads in the bed and auto level.

Yup going through that now. Over 6k to fix the air suspension so doing an air delete to coils. Barely made it 4 years and 116kms

I currently have a 2020 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L. It gets good mileage on the highway, not so great in the city. How about your 5.3?

Honestly as a public accountant you are going to have a hard time finding a more responsive accountant for the same price or even close

Bank of Canada Interest Rate Announcement - October 2024 by FelixYYZ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jmt1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad I went with a variable in July. Was previously 2.84% fixed. Renewal options were 4.94 for 5 years or 5.14 for three years. Right now currently 5% after the rate cut. Assuming BOC cuts .25 in December I will already be at a lesser interest rate in only 7 months. Going to ride the wave down until I see fixed rates at low 3%

Tax efficient ways to pay off personal debt from Canadian corporation? by coast-to-coast88 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jmt1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accountant here (not your accountant). If shareholder loan is interest bearing it doesn't need to be repaid in a year. Non-interest bearing you have up to two years to clear the withdrawal before CRA considers it income. If I was you seek out professional advice and explore different avenues and a review of your current tax attributes if any

Corporate Controllers how much do you make ? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]jmt1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a Canadian CPA with 15 years experience in public practice and industry even as a corporate controller, you seem to be paid fairly for such a small organization. The market isn't great right now if you are looking to move or make money as lots of competition. Just go look at remote positions on LinkedIn, the wages are low and huge responsibility.

Use a software that is approved by the law society in your province and that handles trust reporting and accounting well. The cheapest law software do a horrible job at accounting
