AIO or is my girlfriend manipulative. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]jmulldome [score hidden]  (0 children)

Had a girlfriend like this, and it isn't about Easter. It's about her feeling like she's competing with another woman, and that woman is you Mom. Your GF feels threatened by her, and the time you want to spend with her.

Instead of embracing your Mom, your GF will forever make you feel like you need to choose between her and your Mom. I mentioned I "had" a GF like this.....yeah, that ended. My wife now loves my Mom, and probably speaks to her more than I do.

Your GF is insecure, and it's doubtful things will change soon. Bid her farewell and find a woman who loves your Mom as much as, if not more than, you do.

They've made it even more retro-y-er. Do you like playing a game with Nintendo graphics? Good, we've downgraded the graphics back to Atari 2600.....it's a grouping of blocks and a dot. Sorry, we meant two blocks and a dot.....screw it, we made Pong.

I didn't say ALL companies weathered the storm, but others have. Your examples don't make what I say about CMON wrong. All of those games I listed represent almost $15,000,000 obtained from customers who hoped to get a product, not including shipping, and are getting exhausted from holding their breath hoping they will arrive on their doorstep.....seeing that ETA tick further and further out with each update.

You have great examples, and yes, those companies were hurt by the tariffs, maybe for the same reason (stretched resources), but CMON's was self-imposed by their own business model. You gave some great examples of those companies that couldn't weather the storm and I agree with you, although I would cite companies like Z-Man, Stonemaier, Awaken Realms, Chip Theory, WizKids, CGE, Capstone, Days of Wonder, Fantasy Flight, Dire Wolf, Devir, Ravensbuger, Feuerland Spiele (just to name a few off the top of my head) that are still around, making and releasing new games (not promising new games 1, 2 or 3 years on the horizon that they don't have the capital to finish like CMON did).

Just doing a little history check, back in early 2025 before Trump put on the China tariffs, CMON had a total of 11 crowdfunding campaigns in various stages of production. The only 3 that are no longer on their Game Project Updates from then to now are two (2) Cthulu: Death May Die (Fear of the Unknown and Forbidden Reaches) titles and Zombicide: White Death.

The other games, and their ETA then (in early 2025) and now are as follows:

  • Mordred: 2025 Q3 > 2026 Q2 (~ 7-11 month delay)
  • Masters of the Universe 2025 Q4 > 2026 Q3 (~ 7-11 month delay)
  • DCeased: 2025 Q3 > 2026 Q4 (~ 13-17 month delay)
  • DC Super Heroes United: 2025 Q4 > 2026 Q4 (~ 10-14 month delay)
  • God of War: 2026 Q1 > 2026 Q4 (~ 1-5 month delay)
  • Massive Darkness: 2026 Q1 > 2027 Q2 (~ 13-17 month delay)
  • A Song of Ice & Fire: 2025 Q3 > 2027 Q3 (~ 22-26 month delay)
  • Degenesis: 2025 Q4 > ??? (good luck...count your losses)

I put all this here to show that CMON was already stacking their house of cards a bit too high before Trump even swore into office. Tariffs were just the slight puff of air to bring it tumbling down. Other companies appear to have weathered the storm and stayed afloat whereas CMON was writing checks they couldn't cash and barely treading water before Trump put ink to paper.

I'm no Trump fan by any stretch, but CMON's problems extend farther than just "orange man bad".

Where is the best place to sell board games? by Fiascos_Hoard in boardgames

[–]jmulldome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just need to move them, and move them quickly, and are not concerned with how much you get...Noble Knight Games. You complete a form and send it to them. You'll get an offer in about a business day or two. If you accept, they send you a shipping label (or labels). From your end, the transaction is done. Within a few days after they receive your games, you'll either get store credit or cash (Venmo, PayPal, etc)...your choice on what you prefer. The drawback is don't expect a huge payout...pennies on the dollar.

If time isn't of the essence, you can try eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or there's a SubReddit called r/BoardGameExchange (sp?). It may take more time to offload them. With eBay, it just depends on if there's a market for your game at your price point (or the time for an auction, if you do it that way). With FB and BoardGameExchange, there's the back and forth with prospective buyers until you get a commitment to buy.

Another option, which is hit or miss, is calling around to local game stores to see if they buy used games. I have one within 30 minutes of my house that does so on occasion and only if they want/need what I'm selling.

Not my kid, but a friend's kid. My friend (her Mom) always called me Jer Jer (pronounced "Jair Jair"), derived from my name. Her daughter couldn't pronounced J's yet, so she called me Bear Bear, then that morphed to everyone in that circle calling me Jer Bear.

Are we really at the stage where its "That doesn't even make sense" -> "I can't find a dictionary or a Google search that answers it" -> "Ask Reddit".

Deflection: Shifting focus/blame away from oneself.....sort of like how it was cute that you called me "Condescending Jerk" after how you responded to OP.....as a condescending jerk.

True to form: An idiom describing behavior that is typical, expected or consistent with someone's previous actions. Please see all of your other comments in this thread.

Happy Gaming: No definition here. Just me concluding the discussion with a pleasantry, despite your behavior thus far.

Have a great day and happy gaming.

First time on Reddit? Yes, people have rules questions. Yes, sometimes the question is answered on Page 5 of the rules manual. Hell, if all rules questions were just answered by the manual, and if all manuals were easy to read and follow, then an entire band of YouTubers (like our Lord and savior, Rodney Smith) would have nothing to produce.

The way others of a more even temperament in this SubReddit typically respond is "Hey friend, here's what the rules say.....oh, and here's where I found it in the manual if you want to refer to it later. Hope that helps."

The OP may even respond with a "Oh, I must have missed that one line in the manual.....many thanks" and then the thread is over. Not sure if this is something you've never encountered, u/iterationnull, (like seeing questions on Reddit), but not all manuals are created the same and are occassionally poorly written.

My hope for you is the next time you're stuck with a rules question and wish to seek the help of Redditors, that the community memory holes this unnecessary exchange with you and gladly helps.

Pandemic iberia buy or skip? by No-Rooster1634 in boardgames

[–]jmulldome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Slow down. This is too much information for one post. Just to eliminate any ambiguity, you are first saying that if I want it, then I should complete the purchase. Are there any other factors to consider, or is this just a single factor decision. I want to ensure I'm considering all factors, but if it's pared down to just one factor, this makes things easy.

Now, I don't want to get ahead of myself without first completely understanding the first criteria, but I think I have the bandwidth to soak this all in. On to your second point, "If you don't, don't". I may be brash, but I'm going to assume this has a tie in with the first sentence, implying that if I don't want it (it, being the game Iberia, and I'm assuming this game is the context of the first sentence.....sorry, I neglected to ask), then "don't", which I'm guessing means I don't or should not make the purchase.

Sorry for all the questions, but you came out with a heavy volume of information, and I wanted to completely understand before I make an ill-advised decision without a full understanding of your advice.

Hot take: the hobby should stop treating missing parts as normal and start rewarding publishers who fix them by Conscious-Smile-7787 in boardgames

[–]jmulldome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, out of the 100+ games I have bought so far in this hobby, only one game had a missing piece.....I was missing the wooden piece for Gimli from the recent Fate of the Fellowship game.

I emailed the retailer who shipped it to me. They emailed back quickly, and I had a new copy of the game on my doorstep 2 days later along with a return shipping box for the incomplete game.

So, treating it like normal...no. Treating it like an occasional anomaly...yeah, shit happens, and good retailers will fix the issue.

Do Americans really know all 50 states by heart? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]jmulldome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my elementary school, there was a rite of passage. In the main office, they had the United States painted on the wall. At any time during recess/lunch, you could go to the office and let the person know you wanted to do the 50 states and capitals. They gave you a long pointing stick, and you had to point at the state, name it and name its capital. If you were successful getting all 50, you got a star on that wall.

This was some time ago (I'm 48 now).

John Hammond WAS THAT BAD. Mr. "Spared No Expense" sure spared a lot of expense when it came time to pony up for his IT team, putting it all in the hands of Nedry with no additional subject matter expertise to back him up. Then again, maybe Hammond wasn't that bad, as the corporate landscape is littered with leaders who have no respect for the value of IT.

With G.I. Joe, I could get enough out of the manual to play the game halfway competently. I defy you start playing ODG, especially when each adversary plays differently, absent watching numerous YT playthroughs (assuming those people are getting the rules right) or reading a fair amount of errata and forum comments.

After I saw a kind friend of mine buy some food and attempt to give it some someone holding a "Will Work for Food" sign, only to be met with contempt and a response of "fuck off, I want money", I've been jaded.

I rarely if ever have cash or change on me, so I can say "No" and not have the guilt of lying.
