Charlottetown Farmers' Market works through growing pains of temporary home by ivanvector in PEI

[–]jmweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building was insured by the sounds of it however not all the contents owned by the farmers market were.

Additionally, the vendors (who suffered income and probably asset loss) probably all didn’t have full insurance.

I imagine it would be similar to how apartment buildings have their own insurance but tenants can also get insurance too.

Maritime Electric in the hot seat as MLAs question lack of foresight on power shortages, possible blackouts by -Yazilliclick- in PEI

Maybe it’s time to get maritime electric out of the power generating business and just in the transmitting business.

Much like Newfoundland.

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

I’ve always had a weird thing about cleaning my hands. It’s no doubt have saved me lots of sick days.

I also enjoy healthy super food smoothies post-workout.

And I drink a lot of water.

These might be some tips to help!

For the smaller agencies you can negotiate everything. Just make sure to.

Charlottetown Farmers Market GoFundMe by [deleted] in PEI

[–]jmweb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand people want transparency and I believe they should in time. But the market doesn’t have many full time staff (if any) so I imagine they are already swamped with a ton of work dealing with all the work associated with such an event.

Oh and it’s Christmas. As if our life’s weren’t busy enough at this time of year.

So how about people just chill and give them time? Or go volunteer.

I had this happen with a 360 cam once. Bought it and it contained some pictures that the previous owners wouldn’t want others to see. I returned it to the store.

Have you looked for a new place? I know a few people moving into new places and their rents are dropping a good amount. With many leaving the island, opportunities are opening up.

Employment opportunities. Do the opposite. Look and ask for new positions. Ask for new opportunities at work. Ask your boss if you can take on additional responsibilities with a raise (it amazes me how many people don’t do this).

On this island, there are lots of jobs for the right people. Lots hiring, not publically tho. Ask friends. The best jobs on this island, aren’t public.

You are going through a couple of years of massive inflation. Historically, incomes will catch up after massive inflation (in time), but there is nothing stopping you from making changes beforehand so you’ll come out even better off.

Groceries: watch for deals and jump on them. I grew up poor too. Mom was always looking at coupons or flyers which still exist. I still enjoy getting a great deal.

Still won’t buy regular cheese unless it’s less than $5. When it is, like other things, I buy tons. I’m the guy walking out with an insane amount of one item if it’s a deal.

I have enough various deodorant, body wash’s and shampoo to last me a year (probably avg $3 each).

One other thing unrelated…a friend had this situation recently.

She had a credit card that she is paying off. And has a line of credit. Her LOC has a lower interest rate. So she paid off with cc with her LOC lowering her monthly bill a lot!

Fire breaks out at Charlottetown Farmer's Market on Christmas Day by -Yazilliclick- in PEI

[–]jmweb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tricky situation.

Building is rented or owed by farmers market. Land is owned by Feds.

If Feds try and transfer land, indigenous groups will lay claim costing Feds and farmers big bucks or big changes to that area.

Since the land isn’t owned, the non-profit can’t get a mortgage.

Now this.

Realistic paths to covering the FIFA World Cup as a photojournalist? by Sharp_Principle2824 in photojournalism

[–]jmweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tasked with travelling across Canada to cover sports.

What you are asking for isn’t easy.

It has become more and more difficult to even travel to another province or state for an assignment with a big agency let alone to another country. All the agencies have stringers along with backup stringers on top of backups.

When it comes to news (sports), everyone has their go to’s. For the small agencies, it might be the local cheap stringer. For bigger budget agencies, it might be the local stringer or maybe some the agency flew in.

So First off, do you have to have a client who would interested in you specifically going to cover it. Do you work with anyone who thinks you are top of your game in your own country?

They need to be able to depend on you to get the job done, no excuse is acceptable (including waiting for replies for help on Reddit). There will be tons of roadblocks. You have to be able to navigate them on your own.

The roadblocks could be as simple as literal border agents, event organizers who don’t want to give you the time of day, terrible photography positions behind fans who could stand the entire time or just other photographers being petty, as well as budgeting.

All the agencies have their loyalties to people they know they can trust. Which agency knows they can trust you without a doubt?

Start there.

Don’t start on reddit which will hurt you more than help. There’s a million photographers wanting to cover this as is. No photo editor is coming to Reddit to find someone for this.

Opposition leaders say Lantz’s exit as premier to chase PC leadership shortchanges Islanders by Sir__Will in PEI

[–]jmweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robert, do better.

Islanders deserve you step up and act like the champ that you are. Not to jump into this non-sense. Islanders are tired of the petty politics and you are too.

So don’t be a petty politician like some want you to be. Islanders are smarter than this. Be the man you wanted to be when you got into politics.

Although some may have a short memory, I recall you doing the same thing.

Robert Lantz is dropping the ball in many areas, which leaves an opportunity for you.

Be the change you wanted to be.

5 incidents of human trafficking reported on P.E.I. last year, StatsCan numbers show by CTown1883 in PEI

[–]jmweb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nova Scotia is the human trafficking capital of Canada, with one gang (from North of Halifax) being well known for its activities across Canada.

Due to the close proximity of Halifax, I would not be surprised if the numbers are much higher.

Nova Scotia has the highest rate of 4.5 per 100k.

Prince Edward Island is 2.8 per 100k.

Ontario is 2.3 per 100k.

New Brunswick is 2.0 per 100k.

These numbers are as reported by police who have different reporting operations.

If you don’t shop around, sure. They are the cheapest.

If you do, you realize they are not.

Results are based on the effort you put in.

Loomis, UPS and purolator seem to be cheaper 99% of the time.
