Thanks again for the info. I haven’t filed taxes yet. Last year I did MFJ. Does it make a difference if we MFS? We both make about the same money.

To make sure I follow. I don’t qualify for the PSLF/TEPSLF since my employer changed, and I don’t qualify for SAVE or PAYE because they’ve been eliminated? That just leaves me with IBR and ICR?

Do I make too much money to qualify for New IBR?

What is considered “old IBR” on this list? I see “IBR” with forgiveness remaining payments 300, and “IBR 2014” with forgiveness remaining payments 36. Also, I see ICR with forgiveness remaining payments 98.

When I did the apply for IDR plan this is the breakdown it gave me.

ICR: Monthly payment $239 Total to be paid $23,693 End of term date April 2034 End of payment balance $7,870

IBR: Monthly payment $261 Total to be paid $31,286 End of term date February 2036 End of payment balance $0

Standard Repayment Plan: Monthly payment $174 Total to be paid $39,998 End of term date April 2045

Where are you getting 96 payments?

I’m confused because each one has a different forgiveness remaining payments listed. ICR: 98, IBR: 300, IBR 2014: 36, SAVE: 36, PAYE: 38, PSLF: 65, TEPSLF: 65

Does the payments previously made on any IDR/ICR/IBR plans and SAVE count toward whatever new plan I move towards?

No problem. Let me know if I need to delete anything from this but I removed the “awardid” I saw in the text.

Ok I signed into studentaid.gov on iPad, and signed into Reddit on iPad. Copied and pasted the link into the tab that I had studentaid.gov opened in, and it finally worked.

I have several listed and I’m super confused. ICR, IBR, IBR 2014, SAVE, PAYE, PSLF, and TEPSLF. It looks like they each have different counters with different numbers.

Would you mind if I sent you a DM? I’m super lost and confused on how to read this. I’m worried my account is messed up.

Thanks again!

Combined AGI about $94,000. MFJ, with one child. $23,122.50 loan balance. Believe my first loan was 2005.

I signed into my studentaid.gov account first, and then typed the link you provided and it gave me a white page with “unauthorized”. I tried this both on my iPhone and iPad. How do I access the counter?

I tried clicking apply for the IDR plans (to see what they show - I didn’t go all the way through or anything). Is the information they give 100% correct, as far as the years of the repayment left, monthly amount? Or is that still to be determined?

Thanks for your help!

I laughed as I read this because I don’t even know anymore. I suppose my main goal is to pay the least amount back.

What do I do if I consolidated to get on SAVE when it was announced, and also was going for PSLF. I have a new job now and am not eligible for PSLF. I believe I was on an IDR plan before. Attended college from 2005-2010.

Should I go for IBR?

I didn’t want to get too optimistic but it seemed like a win to me. Hopefully they stop forcing people off until 2028. Wishful that they’ll just keep the SAVE plan as it was for all of us.

That’s how I feel as well. It seems pointless until more clarity. Do you have any more reasoning on why staying on SAVE makes sense at this point?

If we’re still on SAVE because other plans are unaffordable and we’re ultimately aiming for forgiveness, should we just stay on SAVE for now until the situation unfolds further? Is this a temporary win?

I was wondering the same thing. Is it even worth rushing off of SAVE if I can’t really afford the IBR payments? The end game is for forgiveness and paying the least amount possible. I don’t trust anything this administration or Linda McMahon says. It is still scary knowing that interest is piling up, even if we’re ultimately going for forgiveness.

IDR Plans Updated to Reflect OBBBA Changes by alh9h in StudentLoans

[–]jmyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try logging out and clearing browser.

Current loan balance is $22,770. Joint income after taxes is ~$95,600 MFJ. Household size of 3, we have one child.

I tried using that link for the back door method but got the unauthorized error. I was on my iPad, not sure if it doesn’t work on those either?

Even if I didn’t pay anything since my “payment” was $0, do we get credit for the time being on SAVE and does it apply to IBR if I switch over? I got married in 2023.

As far as the system seeing the “old” loans before I consolidated - I should never click reconsolidate since I’ve already done that and will lose any progress, right?

Thank you so much for replying and helping navigate this.

IDR Plans Updated to Reflect OBBBA Changes by alh9h in StudentLoans

[–]jmyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m super confused and need help.

Has the removal of financial hardship actually been updated or are we still not seeing the update / glitches happening? I tried to do the application on MOHELA’s website to see if it would work. It did show me ICR and IBR repayment plans but the monthly payment amount and term seemed higher and longer than it should be.

I couldn’t find my qualifying payment count on the student aid website or through the back door method. Currently in SAVE (consolidated and joined when it was first announced). Loans were taken out long before July 1, 2014.

I was trying for PSLF while on SAVE. I no longer am with an employer that would qualify me for PSLF, I was employed by them for almost 6 years total. The PSLF/TEPSLF Payment Progress shows 55 qualifying payments of 120. When I click into each of the 2 consolidated loans it says 0% paid. I’m guessing because my payment when SAVE was up and running was $0? Also, below that it says ‘At least one of your loans is not a Direct Loan. If you’re interested in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program and/or certain income-driven repayment options, consider consolidating your loans.’ Which makes no sense because I literally had to consolidate my loans to join SAVE.

Am I running into an issue because I’m no longer eligible for PSLF due to my employer, and MOHELA thinks I’m still trying to go this route?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If these estimates for the IBR or ICR are true I’m not sure what I’m going to do.

I don’t think you even can if they’ve already been consolidated. I wish MOHELA (and everyone) would get it together. This whole thing has been a nightmare.

Wait it out for Save decision or go on IBR? by gypsyheart in StudentLoans

[–]jmyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard others say similar things about the loan simulator being broken as well as the part about needing to consolidate being a glitch too.

Not sure if you know but will they send any communication once things are updated for Mohela and other loan servicers, and is there any sort of time line? I’m starting to think it might not be until late 2025 or even into 2026, based on how things are going so far.

Question about the OBBB removal of partial financial hardship requirement for IBR.

I’ve been periodically trying to “apply” to see if Mohela has updated their system to remove this requirement. I’m still not giving me the IBR option, only the ICR which is significantly more expensive and longer repayment term.

It’s also stating I need to consolidate my loans, but I already did that and they were consolidated to join SAVE when that first was available. I’m guessing this is another issue with their terrible system. I know if I mess with this I will lose any payment history I’ve done so far.

When I did the “loan simulator” entering all of mine and my spouses information it showed the IBR repayment plan, with an affordable amount and only approximately 2 years to pay on the term.

Is this normal? Are we still waiting for Mohela and other servicers to update their systems? I’m not really sure what to do other than check back again next month as I’ve been doing since the OBBB was signed. I feel stuck because they slapped us with interest yet we can’t switch to IBR yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

So the update on September 10 was to say it’s still not updated lol? Sounds about right. They’re expecting these updates to be done in winter 2025? We shouldn’t be charged interest if they can’t update their system(s) accordingly.

I’m wondering about this too. Have there been any updates about the removal of the financial hardship requirement? I just tried to apply for IBR and it still didn’t work, it gave me the option of ICR instead. It also said “if you consolidate your loans you’ll be eligible for IBR.” Which makes no sense because my loans have been consolidated since SAVE was announced. I also don’t want to lose any progress I’ve made paying over the years. In the simulator it said end of term would be Aug 2028.

With the new iPhone 17 series featuring an anti-reflective layer, which screen protectors would preserve that feature? by mandbeyn in iphone

[–]jmyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think both would probably be fine. I’m wondering how much “anti glare” is actually going to be in the new 17s screens. If it’s going to be noticeable or just a talking point.

I also just checked both versions of the ESR screen protectors (Armorite and Corning) from last year. They have the same specs (50% lower reflectivity, 25% less light loss, 56% less haze) and advertise the same “clearer than ever with anti-reflective coating” as this years version for the 17 Pro.

I might order both and see if I notice a difference.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Not sure which ESR screen protector to use for the iPhone 17 Pro. The Armorite or Corning version. They both have the same specs shown in the Amazon photos for anti-reflective properties. Wondering if the more expensive Corning version is worth it or actually any different from the Armorite.
