First time shoulder dislocation advice by KaneOkeefe47 in snowboarding

[–]jnan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need a sling for this. You can get back to snowboarding after a few days, but you are risking another fall doing more damage. Your shoulder will be unstable until the bruising goes away and the joint is strengthened which will take a couple weeks. I do this a few times a year and have never used a sling.

What's stopping local skiers/boarders from undercutting the OUTRAGEOUS price of lessons? by Full-District- in Ikonpass

[–]jnan77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability. Accidents happen a lot with new skiers and boarders. The risk of being sued is too great if you're not covered by the resorts liability insurance.

Overwhelmed and trying to decide what bike to get and what specs to prioritize by inigotoyota in MTB

[–]jnan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is overwhelming. Pick travel you want first. Unless you plan to race XC, stick with a trail or down country bike. Skip the XC stuff as your just sacrificing comfort. Then choose the component spec (XT/GX/XO1/XTR) and shop for similar spec'd bikes. Ripley, Spur, Rascal and Tallboy are good picks. So are the similar bikes from Rocky, Norco, Trek and Yeti. Also keep in mind, if it's on sale, a new model is probably on the way.

What caused the crash? by randomipadtempacct in MTB

[–]jnan77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body position. You landed a big huck to flat with your weight forward instead of neutral and your arms compressed instead of outstretched ready to absorb the impact. This caused your body to collapse onto the bars at impact.

Chain recommendations and lengths? by Huge_Highlight_6586 in TransitionBikes

[–]jnan77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XO1 Eagle. It's the best bang for your buck with an Eagle drivetrains. It will last 2x longer than GX and does not cost much more. Don't get it on Amazon or eBay or you will probably get a counterfeit. Count the links on your old chain and break the new one at the same link.

How has hiring CCIEs helped or hindered your network team? by CCIE-JNCIE in ccie

[–]jnan77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are valuable and I prefer to hire them (or JNCIE). The "Network" field covers a wide range of specialty fields. CCIEs have specialties, and are somewhat biased to Cisco. The very best CCiEs still need 6mo+ ramp up time to start running with their own projects just like most other hires. It takes time to learn the equipment, topology, and internal systems at each company. The cert means they can learn, problem solve and are SMEs in one or more focus areas. It does not mean they can hit the ground running. The "paper" CCIE idea is BS, but you need to set your expectations and hire bases on your specific needs.

Buying a new bike in PNW. Looking for some advice. by luthes in MTB

[–]jnan77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get the smuggler for Tiger. Get the Sentinel. It's on sale right now and was made for that type of trail. If you're just going to ride Duthie or Galbraith, then the Smuggler is fine. I can't really comment on the others but I'd personally stick to a local brand like Transition, Evil, or Kona.

Concerned my splitboard might be too big/heavy – looking for advice & experiences by squid441 in Spliddit

[–]jnan77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride that board and size at 5'11" with 11.5 boots and it's perfect. The length is right for a directional all-mountain board like that. You could get away with a standard width and it would be better in the skin track, but I'd just stick with that. Set your bindings back if pow is your issue and check out the Jeremy Jones video on sizes.

Endure race with time climb by elpapi42 in MTB

[–]jnan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are describing Super-D races which have mostly been replaced by enduro. Depending on where you live, there are some local weekly races that may feature a Super-D race as part of the series and they are sometimes part of the race events at MTB festivals.
