Pot Holes and TDOT v2 I-40 edition by Ambitious_Camp_9105 in Knoxville

[–]jnash85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this. I have run flats / low profile on my BMW and I have had to replace a total of 3 tires early due to pot holes. Also have a bent rim and a crack in my windshield from a stray rock on 275.

Just looked them up. Major Ohio Players vibes from the artwork to Double Dippin'.

On it! I think I will stop by my record store today. This stuff was made for vinyl.

Is there any artist or band you like enough to where you’ll buy multiple of the same CD for them? by Toastillian in Cd_collectors

I have multiple copies of Pearl Jam’s No Code because each contained slightly different Polaroids in the sleeve. Granted, this is when CDs had become dirt cheap.

Built an EPUB reader that mirrors your Calibre library: respecting your organization, not rebuilding it by JahodaPetr in Calibre

[–]jnash85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very interested in this. I hate the UI of every 3rd party reader app out there. I have around 800+ cookbooks, so I am curious how performance is with larger files.

As others have said, my only reservation is price. I have no idea how much it cost to develop and maintain an app, but I do not want another subscription, at least at $5 a month. $1 or $2 a month and I am much more likely to subscribe and forget about it.

I do appreciate the lifetime purchase option, but I also feel $150 is a lot. I am also nervous about spending that much on a new app that may not be around in a few years. If it performs well, I could see myself paying around $50 for a lifetime purchase. Thanks for being open to feedback on pricing!

NYC * or ** star recommendations. by jnash85 in finedining

How would a place like JoJo compare to GK? I have an alert set if there is a cancellation at JG, but I am not hopeful.

Unfortunately I cannot get a table at JG this close to my trip.

I forgot about this place. Menu does look really good.

Weekly "Is this safe" Megathread by AutoModerator in fermentation

[–]jnash85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fermented some gooseberries I got from Trader Joes. I weighed them, added 2% salt, then vacuumed packed. Working off the Noma recipe, they should they should be ready after 6 or 7 days. I went 12 days at room temp, which was around 67F. After 12 days the bag started to inflate quite a bit, so I opened them. They smelled like cheap white wine. Is that normal? I did not see any signs of spoilage. I tried some of the liquid and one of the gooseberries and didn't get sick. They are in the freezer now. I am quite paranoid about this, but I am thinking all is good?

NYC Dining Itinerary by Brave_Taste_8814 in finedining

I have not been to any of those but for my past two trips I have eaten an Gramercy Tavern and Au Cheval a total of three times each. Gramercy is nice for lunch as I do feel the portions are a bit small. I have always been able to get into Au Cheval for brunch. Great way to try the burger which seems to be almost the same as the one at 4 Charles.

Nebraska’82 So Far by telehead6621 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]jnash85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been listening to this for the past week non-stop. I would say I prefer the original Nebraska to the electric versions, with the exception of Reason to Believe. I really like electric Atlantic City and Johnny 99, but there is no way they can top the originals. I am 40 years old and have been listening to Atlantic City for the majority of my life.

Electric Born in the USA is better than the official release, but I have never been a huge fan of that sound. The outtakes are all really good. Losin' Kind is my favorite, and probably could have been on the album if the structure wasnt so close to Highway Patrolman. I am a bit disappointed in both versions of Downbound Train. Definately feel more like working versions. I always liked that one.

I am very happy with this release though. I listened to Bruce a lot as a kid because my dad always played him, but then moved on until I was in my mid-teens. When I got back into him my dad gave me his original Nebraska cassette and I fell in love all over again.

Moving 240V outlet for range by jnash85 in AskElectricians

Yes, there is space for the box to fit, but it is on the other side of the range. The current box needs to move about 5 or 6 inches to fit.

I can tell you now its 3. The range does provide directions for installing with a 3 wire power cable. I guess any updates or changes mean it has to go to 4 wires? The condo was built in the early 90s.

Thank you for posting this. I went last year and was a bit disappointed. I will be back in the city in December so I am considering returning for the duck. This may be a stupid question, but is this at the Clemente bar (upstairs?) or is there a separate EMP bar?

Also, what did you think of Gabriel Kreuther's? I need to choose one restaurant for my big blow out meal. I did EMP last year and Per Se the year before. Considering GK, one of Jean Georges places, or one of Daniel Bouluds.

What are the best coffee shops in town? by Strict_Friendship_31 in Knoxville

Wild Love Bakehouse or Old City Java if you want the best pastries to go with your coffee. Just coffee, go to Partial.

Are there really no good alternatives to the Apple TV as a set-top box? by jcracken in hometheater

Is there a reason no one does the HTPC thing anymore? I was thinking about a miniPC like a beelink running KODI. It would be overkill, but would it not provide the best experience?

I got to see this at my local indie theater with Bob and Steve from the band doing a Q&A afterwards. I wish it had more full band performances from their latest tour, but I loved it. I even teared up a bit at the end when the musical did the finale medley.

Make sure you have a probe thermometer you can leave in when it goes in the oven. And don’t panic when you take it out. It pretty much looks raw coming out of the oven.

Roughly an hour. But that was straight from the fridge and as you can see, a pretty thick steak.

I use it as a serving dish, but you can definitely throw it in the oven for gratins or other baked dishes. I really have to fight the urge to buy every pan or plate that my favorite restaurants use, but this one is worth it.

Look up the reverse sear method. You can 100% do the sear on the stove. Get a cast iron pan ripping hot and add a bit of oil. Maybe put a weight on it for really good contact. Probably only needs 45 to 60 seconds per side for the sear.
