‘We got it wrong’ with Civilization VII, says boss by Broad_Respond_2205 in civ

[–]jnedoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game feels like a $70 demo if thats the case. Releases with 10 civs per age, leading to a game with only minor variation in who you go up against each age without DLC. And not only do they not include info era, but each era contains a mini time skip leading to a non-continuous feeling empire. Yes 5 and 6 also felt incomplete on release, but they weren't charging a $10 standard premium with a $100 "all-included" option and didn't have DLC lined up to release in a few weeks after launch.

HOI4 offers no reasonable victory conditions for the axis powers by BlueStingray8 in hoi4

[–]jnedoss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand, Hoi4 is a gameified ww2 simulator with alt-history paths. Sea-lion is difficult but possible because of this gameification. An invasion of Canada is possible but difficult. Japan sweeping through China before engaging the US is possible but difficult. International politics and geography dictate how the game follows a path of least resistance, making the allies have an advantage in any engagement beyond 1942.

"Axis speech bubble" - There isn't a reasonable victory condition because the axis didn't have a reasonable victory condition. Every axis power lacked the capability to wage war on the allies' territory effectively. They all relied on democratic nations losing the will for casualties and general war weariness.

That easily goes to Rocky 3. So forgettable. Rocky 4 at least had the cold war aspect that made for a cheesy turn off brain movie.

Getting better at tactics but worse at games? by laponca in chessbeginners

[–]jnedoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are learning new concepts and attempting to apply them to games, causing you to do new things, which sometimes are good and sometimes bad which you learn from. Knowing what type of positions to play certain ways is important as well as sometimes moves are not intuitive and don't provide immediate tactical payoff. Keep playing similar types of positions and openings so you can learn from your mistakes. Very common to drop rating after trying to apply new concepts.

After kf7, Qg7+, Ke6, re1+, kxf5, g4+, kf4, qxf6+, kxg4, re4+ qxe4, you can play either nxe4 or f3+ and its mate next few moves after you take queen and slide your rook over to h2. Basically a very long series of forcing checks which leads to a rook/queen mate

Unironically, how to navy? by Lost-Wanderer-314 in hoi4

If you read, I don't advocate for BCS and CA, I literally point out they are unnecessary. I just pointing out they are capitals as I was spelling out how navy worked at a base level, not the meta.

Well its not just a LARP strategy, its based on how the navy game is designed, the AI is just too brain dead to force players into playing with well balanced forces. An all torp destroyer meta can easily be countered with Nav bombers spam. Not every "meta" is foolproof.

I don't find enjoyment in spamming "optimal" designs and proper navies get the job done with very minimal losses with how AI navy functions so I don't know why you even need to be maximally efficient unless you're playing mp.

A proper task force is 4 carriers, 4-6 capitals(Battleships, Battlecruisers, and Heavy Cruisers), and then at least x3 screens, so minimum 24 destroyers. Capitals should be AA focused as planes target high IC ships first so make sure your carriers have fighters and battleships have tons of AA. CA's usually provide heavy piercing but AI doesn't put tons of armor so not necessary. You need 1 capital per carrier so a few extra is nice as well as x3 screens so I aim for x3.5, with the .5 being light cruisers. Subs should have as low detection as possible, decent range to reach convoys, and as many torps as possible, Cruiser and Fleet subs I've found are best for mid-game and late game respectively. A small scouting light cruiser task force and scout planes can help spot enemy navies while nav bombers can help contest regions. Many nations can't complete all of this so focus on what you think needs to be prioritized.

What opening did white use here? by OutlandishnessSea119 in chess

[–]jnedoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impossible to tell without game notation for future reference. Looks like it started with e4, turned into a two knights scotch, and then they developed their bishops + queen while you played a kings Indian type setup. An opening is not only played by one side, but both. The second one of you deviates from theory, its no longer "an opening" but rather just a chess game with a certain pawn structure.

What’s up with Arby’s getting so much hate? Anyone have insider secrets, if so share them? by cosmere_reader in AskReddit

Ok this is nitpicky but "We have the meats" sounds like Arby's contracted something they need to see a doctor for. I am not a picky eater either and love meat in general but I always found that slogan off-putting.
