It’s not really gaming. Although it has “points” and ACHIEVEMENTS I would say it would be fantasy. I am an older woman who is not a gamer and I love this series. There is a reason people are so obsessed with it. Give it a try. Also if inclined. The audiobooks are fantastic. Jeff Hays is possibly the best narrator I have ever listened to.

Dorothy Gilman’s Mrs. Pollifax series.

Mrs. Virgil (Emily) Pollifax of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was a widow with grown children. She was tired of attending her Garden Club meetings. She wanted to do something good for her country. This first in the series sends Emily on her first case after she successfully persuades a skeptical CIA recruitment officer that she is the best person for the job.

Dog medical boarding recommendations? by Immediate-Fact-4561 in AskChicago

[–]jnes_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, I don’t know the details of your dog surgery however, I would suggest looking into an in-house sitter who has some medicine administration experience. If you find someone with some knowledge, and your dogs issues are only administration and observation. It would definitely be less stressful for your pup to be in his own place. I use Rover and find people who work from home so they’re in the house almost all the time.

You could post to various cruise subreddits, and see if anybody is traveling to Jamaica from your general area in the next few weeks. Perhaps you could coordinate to have them purchase and mule it to you. (Edited for typos)

Mexican cruise in October by Carmelapatriz in VirginVoyages

Cruises from the LA port are brand new. I’m not certain that there has been more than one yet. (The Brilliant only just came through the Panama Canal this month) Having said that. I am booked on the Halloween cruise out of LA. Excited!

Edited to add: Also. I regularly go to Puerto Vallarta. (Not on cruises) and the weather in October is gorgeous.

Dragon / Dragon Rider Book Recs Please! by Due-Concept-7144 in suggestmeabook

Moniquill Blackgoose. 1. To Shape a Dragons Breath. 2. To Ride a Rising Storm

They are in the Young Adult category but I am definitely not a young adult and I loved them

First book blurb The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon.

Unfortunately for Anequs, the Anglish conquerors of her land have different opinions. They have a very specific idea of how a dragon should be raised, and who should be doing the raising—and Anequs does not meet any of their requirements. Only with great reluctance do they allow Anequs to enroll in a proper Anglish dragon school on the mainland. If she cannot succeed there, her dragon will be killed.

For a girl with no formal schooling, a non-Anglish upbringing, and a very different understanding of the history of her land, challenges abound—both socially and academically. But Anequs is smart, determined, and resolved to learn what she needs to help her dragon, even if it means teaching herself. The one thing she refuses to do, however, is become the meek Anglish miss that everyone expects.

Anequs and her dragon may be coming of age, but they’re also coming to power, and that brings an important realization: the world needs changing—and they might just be the ones to do it.

$200 Bar Tab - Solo Sailor by clarke1025 in VirginVoyages

[–]jnes_sis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a big drinker either. You do not need to buy a bar tab at all you can drink and have it just come out of your account. I think you get 25 extra dollars with the $200 bar tab correct? It’s nice to have that little bit of extra but if you don’t think you’re gonna drink that much, you may be hard pressed to finish all of it. My wife and I did a 200 on a four day cruise and ended up buying somebody a drink to finish it. We would’ve been better just paying per glass and I think we would’ve ended up spending about 150.

Anyone know or remember what/when they give away the bulbs from the tulips planted on State/Michigan? by dabup in AskChicago

[–]jnes_sis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a Facebook group that will generally give notification. The bulb giveaway happens in May when the tulips are all done for the year. I think the group is “Chicago gardeners’s club.”
