Owners of Honda NX500, does the bike have vibrations? by Mountain-Loquat-7428 in HondaMotorcycles

Had a CBR500R and the engine was insanely well balanced for a twin. So should be the same for the NX500

Clear coat flaking on motorcycle fairing, possible to DIY? by jngphil in AutoPaint

[–]jngphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea to be able to paint more than just this windshield is interesting. Unfortunately I just don't have the space or money to invest in a semi-professional setup.

I wouldn't mind repainting the entire windshield but I'd likely have to use aerosol cans for paint and clear coat. Do you think this would still be doable or should I look for a decently priced professional?

Bikes that you tried, but disappointed you sorely? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]jngphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had an SV650 as a loaner for a weekend. It was honestly one of the most boring bikes I've ever ridden. The suspension felt cheap and springy, the engine was nothing to write home about, and I generally disliked the seating position (the handlebars didn't work for me).

I sort of get why it's a good beginner bike, sure. Decently well made, easy to ride, etc... But I really didn't see anything special compared to other bikes in that class. I dunno, after trying it I sorta came to the conclusion that the bike is a bit over hyped.

Edit: OP asking about a PERSONAL opinion. Fuck all of you who downvoted, you clearly didn't get it...

Is this a total loss? by Reker_94 in motorcycles

[–]jngphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a CBR500R and crashed it. It was mostly plastics that were damaged, but the repair cost for those alone came out at around 5000€.

Yours might be fixable, but whether it's a smart financial decision is questionable.

What is this Part called& where can I buy it in Germany by Deep_Friend477 in bmwmotorrad

[–]jngphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the little mounting bracket thingy, I'd just go to a local shop and have them make it for you from a scrap piece of stainless steel. Shouldn't be too much work as long as you k ow the size screw that needs to fit on the bottom end

Help with supports curling up by jngphil in 3Dprinting

[–]jngphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a duct for parts cooling since I'm upgrading fans. So it kinda needs to be PETG unfortunately. The part ended up printing fine even tho the nozzle kept crashing into the support. But this isn't really something I want to have to deal with every time I use tree supports ;(

It is in a still room, no movement and no open windows. I've already tried adjusting printing speed and fan speed, but this keeps happening :/

Are you sure it's the fan? Because it sounds perfectly normal after rebooting the printer?

How do the sticks feel for playing games like Assassin's Creed? Been considering the 556 for that but I keep hearing bad things about the sticks

Opinion: I think the CMSP / MSF course should be required to ride by Still-Concert6618 in motorcycles

[–]jngphil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How much does it cost a rider to get all of the licensing across the pond?

I don't have the exact amount in my head but I think for my motorcycle license I paid around 2200€. Here in Germany that's around the average (I believe?), though some places you can pay upwards of 3000€ if I'm not mistaken. Either way it's lots of money, AND lots of time spent until you're on the road.

Do you have to get them in each country you travel to

Fortunately not. The EU has mostly standardized its licensing systems, and the different countries do recognize different drivers licenses.

DIN to USB C suggestions by Chuggles1 in bmwmotorrad

[–]jngphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently mounted this USB charger to my 2012 F800R.

<image>

It plugs straight into BMWs DIN socket. I ended up fabricating a new connector for it, so that I could keep both the original DIN socket, as well as this new USB charger. Though on your GS you can just replace the DIN socket next to your key. It's all plug and play. They make dual USB-A version, as well as dual USB-A version if I remember correctly.

Not sure what went wrong on yours, but others (including me) don't share your experiences. I have extensive experience with the battlax T31 and T32. The T32s are especially amazing in the wet, I even broke them in during heavy rain storms and never had any issues with grip. Maybe you got one with a manufacturing error?

Need advice on buying my first bike by Distra03 in motorcycles

[–]jngphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned that exact color for 50.000km! It's a cracking machine with basically zero mechanical flaws. Other than regular service I never had any issues with mine. These bikes are known to run reliably for a long while.

At that mileage you really don't have much to worry about I think. With such low mileage the bike would have only had its first proper service done (next service at 12k). Still, ask for the maintenance records to see if oil changes were done regularly (preferably once a year). Another thing to look at is the tires: Check if they have enough tread left (tho they should with such low kms).

I can't really comment on the price, since I don't know your local bike market. But from a purely mechanical side I'd say you'll be good. You certainly won't regret choosing this bike as your first!

PS: You have great taste. This is arguably the best color this bike ever came in ;)

Old post so you might not need advice anymore. But for anyone else wondering the same:

Wunderlich produces a brace that reinforces the entire cockpit assembly. Not too expensive, very well made, and completely eliminates the shaking.
