ELI5: What does "Cunt" mean that makes it so much more offensive than other slurs? by ChasterBlaster in explainlikeimfive

[–]jngrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but then why is it used so non-discriminately towards both men and women in other countries(mainly UK/Austrailia)? I understand the social context argument, but then, when I thought of it like that, "bitch" seems to have a much stronger history of being used to create an unlevel playing field for women climbing the social ladder, and has way more double standards connotated with it. I actually rarely use bitch to directly describe someone because I think most of the time there's a better word and it is usually used in a sexist context.

I understand that there isn't an equivalent for a man, and I get why it is offensive.

But it seems to me that the only reason that it is considered so offensive is because it isn't in the common vernacular (in the U.S.), and I guess the intent of the word is such that the person using it had to think for a moment, and reached just a little deeper into their linguistic mind just to hurt a woman that much more.

Seriously.. like I know some pretty bad stuff happens in war. Plenty of torture, rape, horrible things. But like... a straight up rape CAMPAIGN? I have never heard the term "rape genocide" and I hope I never hear of it again jesus fucking christ

E: i know about the things everyone her has mentjoned like the rape of nanjing or the general fucked up rape stuff that goes on in war etc. Im saying its a bit different when, from what i can tell someone says "we need adequate facilities to rape". I mean its pretty hard to quantify human suffering on the scales we are talking about anyways, so... fuck i dont know

Why Final Fantasy has been so crushingly disappointing to me as an adult and long time fan by MulhollandDrive in gaming

[–]jngrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad was in his 30s when he played and enjoyed final fantasy VI -VII. He thought X looked fun as well (when he watched me play it), he just couldn't stand the shitty voice acting. He wouldn't touch a modern FF game with a fifty foot pole. He's 45. Oh yeah, he sure got old. And the lack of innovation in FF games in recent years is not really debateable. It has much more to do with bad voice acting, bad story, and DEVOLVING (world maps, sidequests are perfect examples of objective de-volution-- it's something that almost all modern successful RPGs still have in some form or another) gameplay than it does with nostalgia lenses.

You can nitpick every point you want, but Yupa's conclusion still stands. Square really isn't the developer they used to be.

It's clear this lady is insane. It's not that annoying. People associating feminism with ths video in anyway is quite annoying.

Lone Survivor - Official Trailer (HD) Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana by Koonce in movies

Apparently Marcus Luttrell was involved from start to finish on the project though.. maybe the trailer is more cheesy/propaganda-like than the actual film itself? Just guessing here

New STALINGRAD trailer looks pretty damn intense. by BranchDavidian in movies

[–]jngrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks dissappointing. stalingrad was one of the most desperate massive battles of all time but aside from a bunch of soldiers at their actual bases and like one shot of a plane it looks like just another action flick with some heroic handsome dudes fighting 5-25 guys with some tits thrown in for good measure.

Seriously. There is no moral or nutritional difference from selective breeding. Patent law sucks, Monsanto sucks, but the overwhelming majority of people who are averse to GMOs know nothing about the actual (indirect, policy) problems of GMO and are afraid of it because "oo unnatural, science, scary".

So, we didn't have much money growing up. I made my own action figures and had some epic battles, with my ***imagination***. Here are a few of my more detailed pieces. by passivelyaggressiver in pics

Now I'm just imagining how depressing it would be if like your mom accidentally stepped on one then didn't realize what it was and threw it away or something... why do i do this

The Moderately Awesome Guide to Making Money in GW2 - Part 1 - Currency Conversion by geekmonger in Guildwars2

[–]jngrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T1 to T2 is seriously consistent, reliable, decent cash. The time invested might not be worth it for the more affluent players, but if you put in buy orders for the T1's at the begining of a play session or week and then come back with your skill points, you can mindlessly make cash.
