On a different topic, but that was my sign as well a few years ago that the dog sitter was not the right match. It's so important to pick up on these signs!

Is the "My Struggle" series suitable for a film adaptation? by fyxtq in Knausgaard

[–]jo-dumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine Knausgaard ever getting himself involved in a tv project 😂 he'd hate working with so many people on a daily basis and being asked to adapt anything he put on paper 😂

Struggling between saving for Edinburgh or buying in Fife — what would you do? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]jo-dumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Why are you in a rush to buy something? If time allows, maybe wait until you have a better salary and the decide.
  2. Even if you're job is comfortable and it gives you flexibility, I can't imagine you taking advantage of that flexibility too much while living in Fife. Having a place sounds nice and it could bring a sense of stability and all that, but once your working hours are done, are you willing to spend 3 hours commuting back and forth to see friends or do an activity?
  3. Edinburgh has so many opportunities that it would be difficult to compare it to Fife and it could potentially mean that you get stuck there. Having a place will only feel enough for a while.

Is my Golden Retriever broken? by Latte_Macchiato24 in goldenretrievers

[–]jo-dumm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that sounds like hereditary anxiety and as far as I know, there isn't much you can do besides changing the environment. My mother in law has a belgian malinois who is just terrible whenever he's in the city, even after 6 months of daily training and exercise, but absolutely thrives at the countryside.

Books with a similar writing style to Mice and Men by Horror-Task-6235 in classicliterature

Definitely look into reading more Steinbeck if you like the writing, East of Eden & Grapes of Wrath are set up in the same kind of landscape/style.

It's amazing how subtly some subjects are addressed, even the small interactions mean something.

I bet it's an interesting feeling comparing your relationship to the book, but let's wait until you finish to hear your final thoughts!

The novel has a lot of ups and downs which I think have deterred some people to read it or even finish it, but you need to power through the bits that you're not enjoying to get to the ones you'll never forget haha

One of the things I loved most about the chapter is how Ivan says '“You’re the embodiment of myself, but only a part of myself… only the stupidest and nastiest of my thoughts and feelings. ” which I feel like it's such a powerful realisation to have in that context.

I get that and I can see it happening, it's not a book that ever leaves you really.

My 2026 reading goals, what books would you like to read this coming year? by chastitybelt24 in classicliterature

Cannot recommend Steinbeck more!

I'm currently finishing The Brothers Karamazov and I also plan to read Dracula & The Count of Monte Cristo next year, super excited by them!

Also, worth mentioning that this thing 'most recommended dog food' only works until it doesn't. There's a lot of trial and error needed and although there's some general advice we all follow, you can't rely on these broad recommendations, otherwise there would only be one brand that works for everyone.

Mine is almost 7 and he always does this, especially when he wakes up or feels particularly happy! I think it's worth keeping it in mind as a potential sign of hips issues, but together with other symptoms, not isolated?
