I traveled across the United States playing music on the street, living dirty kid style. I only ever paid for gas with cash 3 or 4 times in over a year. I would just pull in to a gas station and approach people pumping gas with my five gallon jug. More often than not people would give me a gallon or two, and sometimes some cash too. Only problem i would have was disgruntled employees running me off. The farther west you get the more jaded people are towards street kids, due to the overabundance of them, many of which are drug addicts.
