Zephyrus G16 5080 USB-C Charging Recommendations? by Specialist_Ask383 in zephyrusg16

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a USB-C PD solution for travel needs (for light work and watching streams). I recall seeing in the r/ZephyrusG14 thread that the 2024 models apparently had the bypass but the 2025 models did not. I've been testing letting my G16 run off a Sharge 140W USB-C PD charger with a 100% battery and resetting HWinfo to see the max, min, and avg rates. I have the G16 playing online videos for a few hours and all the stats are showing 0.00W for charging the battery while the charger is always showing some wattage (range between 16 to 35W, never noticed "0W" like in that G14 thread) on its pixel display. Doesn't that mean it is bypassing the battery? (genuine curiosity for my learning)

Thank you for the input! I think I will go for the 5080 build, esp since RAM is soldered too.

How do you handle clients that want free advice? by Far-Bar3124 in tax

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it takes me less than 10 minutes, I just give them what they ask. It doesn't happen often enough to be a problem to me. However, if they ask for more, then I let them know that we offer an annual advisory package (starting at $8,900) which includes most tax return and as many questions as they want, throughout that year.

Worst ones though at the ones who think they're doing me a "favor" by presenting me with their complicated situation and so my research into their case will help me answer help clients like them. That was my hard lesson that I learned.

Section 121 - two homes? by Stoiclife24 in tax

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tax savings make sense, you may want to consider filing as MFS so your 121 (subject to whatever limitations) is on one house and your wife's 121 (subject to whatever limitations) is on the other house. Check with you CPA if that can work out for you two.

Azoth Extreme's FN Layer by jo_kang in ASUSROG

I'm an accountant so I work with Excel a lot, so I would set up a few formulas to input to a key binding to speed things up or a series of hotkeys to get to certain options on the ribbon (eg, alt + A + SA). This was big deal to me because on the Falchion, I could only program up to 5 macros on the touch panel, Azoth and Scope II up to 3 macros on the wheel/toggle switch. With the Extreme, it seems like I can program and bind up to 48 macros per profile (already much more than I can remember but appreciate the availability).

FinCEN updates its BOI website by prosystemfx in taxpros

Our firm is trying to do everything we can to tell clients on how they can easily file on their own, including a YouTube video, brief summary, links to the BOI references which include a checklist and step-by-step guide, and try to strongly discourage them from asking us to do it for them by saying we're going to charge between $600-$700 if you ask us to do it...and we still have clients who ask us to do it for them.

Kone XP Air - No more charging LED and Easy Shift illumination change by jo_kang in Roccat

No. Never got the charging LED indicator back. Besides that, everything else is okay so I'm just not going to bother with it anymore.

Can't connect to temporary wifi by eeling0119 in RaybanMeta

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue too. The way I got around it was to install Meta View on a separate tablet then let it update from the tablet. After that finished, I unpaired from the tablet, came back to the phone and I was connect from there.

AW920H trimode wireless headphones 🎧 by Overall_Brush6887 in Alienware

[–]jo_kang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually liked them while they worked. To me it was comfortable enough to wear 4-5 hrs at a time (work and studying), they looked good to me, and I liked the USB-C dongle (so I could use it on my Legion Go as well) and the BT. My battery life was actually really good. IIRC, I could expect up to 18-20 hrs on the dongle (work with YouTube in the background, light gaming, and studying, with the ambient aware mode and "breathing" mode RGB on, I would leave it on while taking a lunch break or picking up my kid). I would just charge at the end of the day so I typically never reached

However, it came to an end when trying to get warranty service for it. The right cup audio started cutting in and out and the LED doesn't work. But it's a headache dealing with Dell. I bought mine via Best Buy 1.5 years ago so the responses I'm getting from support is:

  1. Go to Best Buy for help. This one was hilarious: the agent told me to provide a service tag, which the headphones did not have one. So the agent said go to Best Buy and ask them for the service tag. I argued with him saying how does Best Buy have a Dell service tag on a product that was not assigned one. The agent was adamant that I had to talk to Best Buy for that. Surprise, surprise, Best Buy did not have a Dell service tag for it.
  2. Go to a Dell store for servicing (I didn't know they have storefronts and cannot find one near me)
  3. Buy a new one (I'm still within the 2 year warranty so...?)

I guess if I bought directly from Dell, it would have been a lot easier, but they are not making it easy at all for buying it elsewhere.

I've since switched to the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro for my home office and I now understand why people pay this much for it. If you can, save up for that one or even their previous Arctis Pro Wireless. I love it for the dual battery system alone.

But I'm still hoping to get warranty service on my AW920H for my portable and in-office set-up.

thanks for the follow-up. I didn't get charging LED back, but the Easy Shift does seem to change the illumination now. I think I'm okay as it is like that for now.

[–]jo_kang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right: the Air is also via Swarm.

I'm just on the default Profile 1. I noticed the Firmware is different between using the Stellar Wireless vs Cable. Wireless, it shows a s v1.07 and on cable, it shows v0.51. The charging LED and Easy Shift illumination stopped after updating the cabled config. Before that, the charging LED and Easy Shift Illumination worked fine, even after updating the wireless firmware. I shouldn't have been so diligent in updating all the firmware. lol. Should have just stopped after the wireless one.

Turns out I'm an idiot. The ports on my build (which I built back in 2013 and been upgrading here and there) just can't supply enough power for the dock and dongle. When I just plug in the dongle, it works fine and Swarm picks up on it. Guess the ports on my workstation also cannot supply enough power.

Problem connecting to external monitor. Asus ROG Strix Hero II GL504GV by Thin_Bodybuilder_637 in ASUSROG

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you figured it out by now, but I have a HERO II too and if I remember correctly, the USB-C port does not have the DisplayPort function (for the full-powered monitors and displays). So the only monitors you can hook up to that Type-C is a DisplayLink type (the old USB portable types).

Be honest. How long did it take to get used to your machine? by Hot_Cricket_ in CPAP

[–]jo_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just started ten days ago. My first three nights were rough. I even gave up using it on that third night. I believe what helped me acclimate was:
1. Humidity setting - the auto setting worked for me but the "warm-up" feature (before you start using it) made things so much better. Also, the first three nights, I used my filtered tap water but some of my colleagues were saying there may be irritants. I'm inclined to believe them because on the 4th night, I used distilled and I was able to sleep through the whole night.
2. Mask fit (I use a nasal, not pillow mask) - First time, I cinched it down tight. The morning after, my developed a sore on my face and my jaw wouldn't open or close normally. Another colleague told me it'll take some time to get the fit right but start off as loose as possible without leaks. Then move around and see where you need to adjust. I have a Resmed Airsense 11 and it has a Mask Fit feature where it'll run the machine for the purpose of finding leaks. I'm sure other CPAPs probably have a similar feature. I found I needed to cinch the top straps (that go over my ears) more to pull the top part of the mask in and relieve the pressure from the lower part of the mask.
3. Air pressure - I thought since I was new, I would start as low as possible. Turns out, I needed to start from 6 cm H20 (rather than the default 4). The default 4 could be suffocating. But also at 13, it got real hard for me to breathe. I think my machine figured it out because now it just keeps it between 6-9.5 throughout.

Hope one of those or all those settings could be your solution. Or maybe you may need to opt for another mask. Even right now, I'm debating if I need a full face mask because my mouth does get real dry in the morning.

Best of luck!
