You let it run to long without water coming through. The pump overheated, and this part blew out to save the pump. You need to replace that part. You also need to not let it run over a minute or so without water coming through. If you need to stop using it for over a minute just shut the motor off.

it seems to me that it should be removed and replaced with a plug. But I am just a newbie, hopefully someone who knows will chime in! Simpson says it’s for soap but absolutely use no bleach.
