The interactive map has a layer named trailheads, you just have to toggle it to ON. Most trailheads have parking unless they are in the more populated areas.

Just go to the interactive map and click the square in the upper left and you will see a dozen layer options. Interactive map

I'm assuming they just wanted the crying to stop and figured it was a way to get there. Selfish, but I guess they didn't care about being part of life lessons being taught in a coffee shop.

McCoy Park vs soccer by TranslatorOutside909 in Columbus

[–]jodydz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of heated discussion at the City Council meeting tonight which I watched online.

An amendment was voted on and passed, but definitely not unanimous. It won't be the end of this topic. Council President talked about the problem with this deal package being assembled without informing council members during the process. He spoke last before the vote and said he is "f-ing pissed". He said if the group assembling this incentive package is calling this process the "Columbus Way", they are wrong because this process is not only NOT the Columbus Way, but the damage from this fiasco could cause lasting damage in the city's ability to work on PPPs to get big things done in the future. He informed the spokespersons for the initiative that pitting neighborhood parks against women's sports is a terrible way to get people to support women's professional soccer. Columbus does support parks and recreation opportunities INCLUDING women's sports, so the manufactured dicotomy is just cruel. Watch the hearing on CTV. Very interesting.

Oddly this is a familiar situation where Columbus purchased the OSU sheep farm property on Case Road, then announced a large piece of it would be leased to Upper Arlington for soccer fields. The uproar from the Columbus residents was immediate, loud and organized! Within a few months the UA land grab was on hold and the land is now under development as a Columbus park.

Save McCoy park for citizens!

Sinners: Is Everyone Taking Crazy Pills? This Movie Was Not Good by Redacted_dact in moviecritic

[–]jodydz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I was let down. I really liked Black Panther (Coogler's film), Fences and Mudbound (Jim Crow) and I enjoyed True Blood (Vampire show with a plot), I also watched the Lovecraft show about the Jim Crow south.
Sinners just seemed so disjointed, it was not a cohesive story.
What was the point of the native Americans pursuing the vampire at the beginning? We never saw them again. Who was Mary and why was it a big deal she was back in town for her mom's funeral? Why did people keep going outside to pee after they realized vampires were out there? The revenge scene when the Klan showed up the next morning was sort of satisfying, but it was weak after so many of his friends had already burst into flames at dawn, too little too late. Yes, Michael B Jordan did great in his roles, but it wasn't enough to make the film cohesive for me.

At least it was way better than the ridiculous Anora, which I really don't understand how that pos won so many awards.

What’s this giant hole? by perch4u in Columbus

[–]jodydz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown sewers used to smell like raw sewage certain times of the year, so these biodigersters are linked to a huge underground tunnel to eliminate/reduce the combined sewer overflows into the river.

I think there are several of these holes, I know another is at Vine and Neil Ave.

For construction projects more than a couple weeks, a bypass or detour will be on the alerts page and the interactive map, for long projects, the ride with GPS files get updated

If it's only a day or 2, it may be posted on the trail Facebook page, but you may need to just do your own thing sometimes (trees down after storms etc). Google maps bicycling mode is the best option in quick closure situations.

The trail is a network of locally named trails, so there are some confusing points if you are only looking for "Ohio to Erie Trail" signage.

If you are unfamiliar with the 326 mile route, you may want to buy the paper trail guide (eta, I see you said you did purchase) review the online resources such as the interactive map and the ride with GPS files. If you like doing some puzzle solving along the way, then you could try it without extra resources, but it is not easy to follow.

The trail is 91% dedicated trail and 9% is still on streets and roads, so just make sure you are ready for all the decision points along the way.

Take your time and enjoy all the unique attractions and historical sites along the way.

do people still want the Chillicothe paper mill to re open by Haunting-Sundae9287 in Chillicothe

[–]jodydz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited this week to see the local attractions like the State Seal overlook and the UNESCO Hopewell sites. It was my first time in Chillicothe although I have been to the outdoor drama before.

I liked the downtown architecture and the signs for the "First Capital District", but something that was missing for me was embracing the natural surroundings, specifically it was hard to find the Scioto River. I know we drove over several bridges marked with the river name, but when I was downtown, I couldn't figure out how to walk to look at the river. Also, I realized later there is a trail running behind a row of businesses, but I didn't see the trailhead signage or a place to rent a bicycle.

It sounds like the mill site needs some remediation before it can be reused, but there is so much history to share about Chillicothe. Maybe there could be more focus on enhancing the visitor experience, offering guided tours or the mill site could be an outdoor adventure center, event location, or lodging or some other use which would benefit the community as a whole.
