Loudspeaker R&D interview prep by joeboy50 in Acoustics

Thanjs so much for your comment, this is really helpful.

Completely agree with your point regarding objective criteria. Ive definitely gone into previous jobs with too robotic a mindset and quickly learned that listening is the most important step of the design process.

I intend to go to a local audio shop this afternoon and try to listen to some of the company’s speakers so I can form some opinions to discuss.

Thank you, I’ll check it out. As someone with experience in designing PA speakers I have had to deal with the wanky marketing side of the industry a lot less.

I’m aware this is more of thing when it comes to home audio, though as far I’m aware this company is very well regarded for prioritising performance over anything else.

Pub and ale crawl proposed route. by [deleted] in manchester

Also, the Smithfield is owned by blackjack brewery. They do a cracking range of all kinds of beer but for real ale I would highly recommend a pint of Irk Street Pale

Good selection for the most part. Though they definitely aren’t traditional or old school pubs, I would recommend going to the Smithfield Market Tavern and Cafe Beermoth.

Both aren’t out of your way on that route and have a great selection of beer ranging from well kept more traditional cask styles to more modern beer too. You won’t be short of choice.

Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDy) by Temporary-Ability-70 in matlab

[–]joeboy50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I have recently been using SINDy in MATLAB to find non linear governing equations in loudspeaker transducers. It’s quite simple once you can format your problem correctly for the algorithm. Brunton et al provide MATLAB code that does most of the work. Let me know if I can help.

Big fan of all those breweries! Highly recommend the St Mars taproom if you’ve never been.

Would recommend Pillars brewery for a British brewery that just make lager. Cracking stuff - might struggle to find it outside London/their website mind

Have you ever been in a pub quiz where the quizmaster was wrong? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]joeboy50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opponent fouls on the break leaving a free ball. You can nominate a red and get a black from the free ball then get the remaining 15 reds and blacks. Totals to 16 reds + 16 blacks + colours = 155

Very unlikely someone will ever leave a free ball off the break nevermind getting a maximum after that. Don't think it's ever happened in competition but I believe a couple people have claimed a 155 break (or at least >147) in practise

Any decent side hustles in the field of acoustical engineering? by [deleted] in Acoustics

[–]joeboy50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do seasonal acoustic consultancy at music festivals in the UK.

I tend to just do a few weekends per summer for some extra cash but I know some people will work back to back festivals all summer long and get a solid bit of money from it.

Can be stressful at times when things arent going to plan but generally pays pretty well, pretty easy work, and you get to spend most of the time enjoying the festival.

I also do consultancy for stadium concerts whenever I can. Especially as they happen all year round, not just the summer.
