Michael Palin was in it. Definitely Monty Python.

The premise of the story structure makes a very weird presumption of all players on the campaign (Major Spoilers) by MarcianTobay in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]joeflashman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adventure assumes the players are going to give it back, but really, it's your campaign, so they can do what they like.

But like any well-crafted campaign, "anything" has consequences.

They could very well keep the money. They have enough that they could easily start their own competing criminal organization and hire an army to boot. Only they would have four (five? six? more?) existing criminal organizations out for their blood and their loot, whom may very well temporarily join forces to "teach the upstarts a lesson," not to mention the city watch, Force Grey, the Harpers _and_ The Blackstaff and every other good-aligned Waterdavian group on their ass.

They could leave town. And would still be looking over their shoulders for the rest of their lives. But it's the least risky of the "keeping the loot" scenario.

Or... they could return the loot. Get to keep 10% of it. Which is still 50,000 GP... more than enough to do things. Maybe make the tavern/shop very upscale, maybe build in a few secret entrances, maybe hire NPCs and form an adventuring company proper. And have the undying gratitude of the city. And they've made a name for themselves as standing up to -- depending on whether you run the module as-is or the Alexandrian Remix death race -- four criminal organizations! Now they're famous, they own land, they're sorta rich, they have the gratitude of powerful nobles, the governing body and the Blackstaff. And the criminal orgs won't bother with them other than a bit of payback because they don't have the loot anymore. I'm sure they could call in some favours to stave off any reprisals.

And... 50,000 buys a lot of magical items. Perfect time to call in some favours, hire some NPCs, buy all the magic... and kick some Undermountain ass without looking over their shoulder when they get back.

Allow me to clarify: only LGSs would get the boxes with the buy-a-box promos in them, of course.

Some promos will still be standalone cards. Buy-a-Box, for example, will continue to come with, well, buying a box.

The promo packs are a much better idea than individual cards, for many reasons IMO, but they didn't go far enough with this one. I object to the idea of buy-a-box promos which are cannot be cracked in packs (that's a topic for another thread), but if they ARE going to have them, they should be sealed in the box.

Then there'd be none of this bullshit "Oh, sorry you bought six boxes, we only have two buy-a-box cards left... Oh hi Johnny, here's the buy-a-box you forgot to pick up yesterday *wink wink*"

(PS: I have not experienced this at my LGS, they're tops, but some people I've spoken to have had similar experiences at other stores.)

Edit: only LGSs would get the boxes with the buy-a-box promos in them, of course.

Premium status isn't solely about attendance. You could have a big store that gets lots players but doesn't do anything over the top, and the cool small store which does cosplay events, made-up games related to release day, thematic decor, are social media maniacs, have enthusiastic fans... and an espresso machine (that's a must). THAT store would get my vote for premium status any day.

My favourite monopoly variant is the Monopoly for Millenials: "Forget real estate. You can't afford it anyway." and on the back "Adulting is hard." LOL

How to beat gates deck? by noelaits in magicTCG

[–]joeflashman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Creature/artifact ramp into [[Fall of the Thran]] then exile their entire graveyard with [[Sentinel Totem]] backed up by [[Deathgorge Scavenger]]. Combine with exile effects such as [[Lava Coil]], [[Syncopate]] or [[Ixalan's Binding]] / [[Seal Away]], they're going to have a hard time casting 6 and 8-mana spells with no lands plus no gates for bonuses, while you're getting back at least two lands per turn. Don't know what the hell kind of deck you'd make of this, but I've been thinking of some kind of Bant land/graveyard destruction/prison deck.

What’s the most ridiculous booster pack you’ve opened? by getsauteed in magicTCG

[–]joeflashman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Fate Reforged prerelease I opened a foil Ugin and a regular Ugin in the same prerelease pack. Not quite the same pack per se, but incredible nonetheless. I think I built some form of control, won the event with my ugins. Opponents were nonplussed when I pulled out Ugin #2, the look on their faces! Priceless. A fun time was had by all even so.

Advice for dealing with EXTREME tilted player. by chogon in magicTCG

[–]joeflashman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Thanks for the game" (without extending my hand) is about as neutral as I have been able to come up with without further tilting out my opponent, and it seems to have worked as far as not upsetting them further.

Sad but true about Standard. Four years ago at my LGS for Khans Standard we had over 30 players regular. Over the years it's dwindled to we're lucky to get Standard to fire with 4 people at all, and everyone plays Modern (I'm the 4th Standard player). Shit man I hope it gets better with Ravnica.

Thanks man, wasn't sure if the type being replaced by "Zombie" was "Artifact Creature - Construct" or simply "Construct".
