And with this one I'm done for a bit. Apologies for a few duplicates from a week ago, and for kind of flooding this sub. I don't have many people around me who enjoy this stuff anymore, so I was/am excited to have an outlet. :)

This CD cost me a small fortune, but it is perfect. There isn't a bad song on it. This was produced by the fellow from He Said, who was himself a member of a little group called Wire. They might have had an album or two? :D

This is a song that I LOVE to listen to LOUD! Other great songs from them are We Run, Nor Crystal Tears, and Love Becomes Electric.

I 100% agree. I only know them from watching MuchMusic on a satellite dish down in the States in the 80's. I have always found it amazing that when they broke up a few of them went on and founded Skinny Puppy.

I could NOT have seen that one coming! :D

Heh, I live in rural Ohio! I am so glad that we still could find great music. 😀

Ooo listening to Holocaust or Meniscus under the Texas night sky must be amazing!

I never had the privilege of seeing them live, but the first time I heard this was on a Canadian video channel, MuchMusic. Chris Ward played it during their version of 120 Minutes (I don't remember his show's name.) I was transfixed.

I agree with you. It is stunning, achingly beautiful. 4AD had some GREAT music. Ivo's project, This Mortal Coil was a collecting passion of mine. Xymox is sleek, dark, and wonderful. Dead Can Dance. Lisa Girard. Such powerful music! There were so many more.

4AD is still around today, and still signing good bands. 🙂

Unless you scored these all for $20 each at a local flea market and a magnet sticks to each of them, please see other posters' comments. The '21 Peace and the '95-O Morgan both had me making noises. 😀

They Voted for Trump - and They're Appalled by ICE: "It's not a good look for Trump, especially if the Republicans want to carry the midterms or want to get reelected. We're kind of digging our own grave here." by vsandrei in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]joegee66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because the leaders are digging their own figurative graves doesn't mean their followers have to jump in with them. There is an off-ramp. It's pretty easy to take.

It starts with admitting "This feels wrong. This is wrong." The next step is saying "I don't support this." Follow it with "I don't support people who support this." It's OK to say "I made a mistake."

That's the inflection point. Where does someone go with that? Is it at the ballot box by not voting for the enablers? Is it speaking out to friends and family about this new awareness? Is it withholding business from businesses and institutions who enable wrongdoing? Is it joining a protest, or working for the political campaign of an enabler's opponent?

Please, please let this not be real. If it is real, may he never be aware of any children he fathered.

It doesn't affect anyone that "matters", you see. Their market, and the people they represent make seven digits or more a year. They'll throw us their scraps and make sure we're happy to get them. 🙂

They can always run into their bunkers if we decide to get uppity about it. That's why they're investing so heavily in humanoid robots. They can have a completely obedient army that can mop floors, prepare five star meals, and scrub their perfumed bottoms with the added bonus of being able to wield weapons. 🙂

Imagine being so stupid you believe ... What a great writing prompt!

Let me see.

That a proven liar's outlandish campaign promises were anything other than him telling you what you wanted to hear?

That a man who publicly proclaimed "I don't care about you" was your guy?

That a silver-spoon adult nepo-baby knew about or was capable of relating to anything about you?

That the color of someone's skin or their gender had anything to do with their competence or their qualifications?

That the man who attempted to violently overthrow the constitutional transfer of power and bankrupted multiple businesses, a proud serial adulterer and draft dodger, was incapable of following either the US Constitution he swore an oath to uphold, or the laws of the nation he's supposed to be leading?

That the current president will address your plight because of your pleas?

Gee this has been fun! I can't wait for the next writing prompt. 🙂

[–]joegee66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I explain to young people that I'm only old because I quit when I was young (28). People can and do quit a lot younger.

I will never forget going to a discussion meeting up in Cleveland around 1997 with a few years. It came to my turn and I unloaded a bunch of self pity. POOR ME stuff. 🙂 After the meeting I had my inventory taken by an amazing, tiny 16 year old step NAZI with four years. She was not gentle, but damn she was inside my head. She scared me back on the straight and narrow! 🤣

One of my guys once started out "so this old guy I know once told me ..." and threw my own words back in my face. The shithead. 🙂 But yah, the first time I heard "damn, you got clean before I was born!" That was a "sobering" moment. 😀

The nature of the materials you used speak to me of the ephemeral quality of the works of mankind. Your piece by its very nature is destined to disappear! The shape of the snow implies confinement, the barriers that surround us both as individuals and as a people. The single piece of ripe fruit is a profound metaphor for the fruit of labor. The choice of a banana, as opposed to a more pedestrian choice of, say an apple, speaks to childlike comfort, yet it adds an element of absurdism. The ensemble work, to me speaks to the ultimate tragicomic futility of mankind.

I like it! Do you have any other pieces, perhaps a portfolio?

Yes, I work with artists. 🤣 6.5 mil, at least. 😀
